Christmas in July

So many people are starting to celebrate this in Australia now. It is kind of nice, but at the same time. I have no idea where it came from! I’m hoping it started in Australia though.

You see, Christmas in Australia is pretty much, smack bang, in the middle of Summer. January is the middle of Summer, so it’s pretty close. Also though our “Christmas” in July, is in the middle of Winter (hence why I’m writing about it on the 14th). Close to the middle of the year, in the middle of Winter.

No one could really do it last year though. Though I suspect some did.

I really do love the idea though, what normally entails with a Christmas in July Party:

“Ugly” Christmas Jumpers

Traditional Christmas meals, but with a twist. As an example, we have a family friend who wraps up the brussels sprouts in bacon! She also makes the best truffles.

People tend to make more Winter/Christmas drinks, like your mulled wines and eggnog. As these Christmas drinks actually become more drinkable, because the weather is cooler, the eggnog doesn’t go off as quickly and make you sick -.-

People do buy each other presents too! However, they are normally silly (sometimes rude) little things. From a pound or 99c type shop.

Share Your World … Week 51

What is your favorite holiday?

I would have to say that it’d be between Christmas and Easter, but it’s mainly because a lot of those type of holidays, we spend with family, and I think that’s why they are my favourite holidays. I would say Christmas tips the scales just that little bit more because people are more willing to get together around that holiday, rather than Easter.

What types of food is associated with your holiday?

I guess it’s would be very English food, kind of traditional food, I guess you would say. We have the Turkey, the Ham, lot’s of boiled vegetables and I love Brussel sprouts! We do the pudding and the Christmas cake.

Do you travel for your holiday?

I don’t usually, we’ve been going to a family members house every year. I travel about 30 minutes to go to their travel, so I do “travel”lol…Next year though I will have too and I am not looking forward to it, it’ll be one of my first Christmas’s away. I will be driving about 3 hours to get to my partners side of the family.

Is it a religious or spiritual holiday?

The great thing about my family is that we are all so different, and we all have different beliefs backgrounds and we get along so well. So it’s kind of a everything holiday, lol

Is there a gift exchange?

Yeah, as we have gotten older the presents between the adults has gotten less. We’re now at the point where with the adults we just do a Secret Santa.

How long does the celebration last?

Usually just the day, but we sometimes catch up a couple of days to celebrate some of family members birthday who were born in that week.

Happy Fireworks Day

In a time of uncertainty, uncertainty politics, uncertain employment, i your country even still going to be there tomorrow. Sometimes it’s good to see traditions continue. I wish my American friends and readers a happy Independence Day. On July 4, 1776, the thirteen colonies claimed their independence from England, an event which eventually led to the formation of the United States.

Please just remember though fireworks can scare your family pets, so please make sure that your pets are securely secured!

Boxing Day

So here in the land “Down Under” on the 26th of December (the day after Christmas, for all those new players at home) Australia and other countries that fall under the “Commonwealth” countries. Commonwealth countries are usually countries where Queen Elizabeth and the Royal family of England still ultimately rule.

Originally where this day originated from, was when servants and tradespeople would receive a “box of gifts” from their bosses or employers.

Today to celebrate this day here is a video of a cat…Trust me, it’s funny =P

Halloweenie!

I am so happy that this Fridays edition lands on one of my favourite holidays! =D I’m not an American or Mexican, I am Australian so it’s not a “traditional” holiday here, but it grows every single year and I have never been happier about it. In fact this Friday night I am getting together with a few friends, dressing up and going out for the night. Guess who I am going as?…One Clue!

I haven’t got the full costume on here, but I will take an update on the full costume. I just don’t really have the time to do the full outfit today…but I promise a full picture! The dress is from Black Milk Clothing. I am now really in love with this store, I already bought a TARDIS and they have a new “wrapped” collection coming out for Christmas!

I’m just putting this video here to get myself in the mood…I hope it works for you too! =D
