Stan the Man…Lee

Thank you to Marvel and Stan Lee for not just creating Superheroes that have been beloved entire generations after generations…But for also creating some serious kick ass Superwomen!  Not just women with ‘powers’ either, but those without powers too! Aunt May, Agent Peggy Carter, Black Widow, etc…Women who have been beloved for generations!

Stan Lee loved to tackle social and current issues. As Stan Lee puts it himself on his “Stans Soapbox” newspaper reoccurring news column (of which no one knows the precise date). According though to former Marvel writer and editor Fabian Nicieza, the column featured in Marvel titles cover-dated April 1970, which would have included “Fantastic Four” #97, “Amazing Spider-Man” #83, “Captain America” #124 and “Incredible Hulk” #126.

“A story without a message… is like a man without a soul.”

Stan Lee, Marvel Women

As a young girl I knew all about Batman and Superman and…well I think they were the only two to be honest and they are from DC!

It was not until I watched a cartoon in the early 90’s called X-Men that I even knew that Marvel existed and I made up for it quickly after that. However, there was one female character that I could relate and I have loved her ever since (except in the live action films)…Rogue.

Now I know that Stan Lee did not create the character of Rogue, but until I saw the X-Men I never even realised that women/girls could be Superheroes…I thought it was all men, all the time! I had been reading other comics, but it was “The Archie’s” and played with my Barbies, so no real female superheroes there.

Do you hate Superheroes?

Marvel “has plans” for first Muslim American superhero character.

Oh my god…The “not racist”…racists…are out in full force!

Every single one of them, of course, talking about if her super power is going to be “blowing up” people. How they don’t like people who encourage others to mass kill one another…You know, how white people NEVER do that! Sweet and innocent they are -.-

Which movie superhero has the highest body-count?

I guess this means that are right in a way, sine every other Superhero do this as well?…But you know that’s not what they mean at all!

Why can’t people just let others enjoy things anymore? It’s like these people have nothing better to do. Does this cartoon hurt you, is anyone making you go and see it? Of course not! So why do others have to “care” so much? It was the same thing with the Royal Wedding…Didn’t their Mum’s teach them, if you’ve got nothing nice to say…Don’t say anything at all?

The most interesting statement from someone I was “talking” to it about it. They claimed that I must hate America…and I pointed out too them, I was not the one hating on an American Superhero…That was all on them.

Age of Ultron…My Review (attempt)

Finally my partner and I gave into our nerdy side and we saw the new “Avengers” movie “Age of Ultron”…I felt like I needed to write this, because it seems like during the press junkets, they are getting such a bad wrap and I want people to still see this movie. It just seems such a shame these days that social media can make or break a movie these days, instead of letting people to just…escape…

For a sequel movie (which I had to remind myself since so many of Marvels’ movies are now interlinked) it was great! I always have a little fear going into sequels, they tend to either be really great or they are really horrible. Now the other thing is though I haven’t yet seen any of the Captain America movies and you will definitely have to see those movies to get some of the references.

What I liked most about this movie is though it manages to show each character from a different angle, it gave a deeper showing of each characters motivations and background, without dragging away from the story. The movie kept moving and you didn’t even notice the “breaks”. That’s what I love most about movies the chance to escape from reality. When someone can do that and give the characters depth while still moving the story and plot along, I just think that is genius!

A year ago today…

A year ago today,
I realised I was truly on my own,
So it was then that I became my own first superhero.

Another year older, a little bit wiser now,
No longer looking over my shoulder and no longer looking back in fear,
You went away a year ago today.

My tears ran dry a long time,
I never thought that I could feel this free, for the first time in a long time,
I have come a long and lone way, you wouldn’t recognise me any-more.

A year ago today,
My dreams started to come true because there was no more room for untrue,
My story is far from over.

Until the monster crawled into my bed,
I always thought I had kept one step ahead,
The roughest time of life turned out to be the best.

I say goodbye to the ungrateful traitor…

A year ago today I began a new chapter, I began a new me,
A new life full of promise and full of love and life,
Something I never thought I could be…A stronger, better me.

So for all that you did and all that you have done and will do, I thank you. For helping me become me. I have never been happier, dreams are coming true now, rather than just staying a dream, something that could never have been if you were still around.
