A research study published in Applied Animal Behavior Science found that the average dog will respond to around 89 words, half of them being commands. The researchers identified the most frequently understood words, as well as the factors that may play a role in a dog’s comprehension, such as breed and level of training. My job is a bit weird (as well as my title) but my main job is to help students enrol into “TAFE/College” classes and a lot of the times we are called in in the morning. Unfortunately, at the moment, we are not being called in a lot. Luckily for me and some of my other co-workers we were asked to work in a particular study area office as their receptionist. It’s one of those study areas that I really feel uncomfortable around, but I don’t have much choice at the moment. I have also found out that none of my other casual co-workers took up the offer.
So now I’m working by myself in an area I am completely unfamiliar with, so today I am just studying all the notes I took and had been given after training for one day…ONE DAY! This area works with Visa’s and people who have English a second language…and there is me…No second language at all! So I am slightly freaking out today.
As much as I am freaking out, I am really honestly feeling a little embarrassed that I was the only people who offered to work any shifts. At the moment I am just doing Tuesday – Thursday because Monday and Fridays I have just started volunteer work. Here is Australia you have to be doing something each week to “earn” your welfare/dole pay. So I can’t give up my volunteer work because the paid work is not permanent. It’s turned into a really complicated system and kind of unfair system. Instead of actually paying people, businesses now use volunteers, full time, instead.
I am trying to enjoy this last day of freedom before tomorrow.
Share Your World…Week 33
Share Your World – 2015 Week #33
What are some words that just make you smile?
Puppies, Butt, Flower (mainly because it makes think of that line in Bambi) Pippy Loo.
You’re given $500,000 dollars tax free (any currency), what do you spend it on?
What subject would you like to study in depth, if given the time to do so?
Would your rather be stuck in a small plane with bad turbulence for 2 hours or be a passenger in a car racing the Daytona 500?
Definitely the passenger in the Daytona 500, I get really bad motion sickness. To think about having really bad turbulence for two hours makes me feel physically ill just thinking about it.
Share Your World!
So I have started a new Blog Challenge! Share Your World! The questions are asked every single Monday, but I will be posting mine on Thursday.
Pleas click the picture below to take you the original Blog post of “Share Your World” blog challenge!
Share Your World – 2015 Week #14
What type of music relaxes you the most or do you prefer silence?
This is kind of a “little from column A and a little from column B” answer. I have moods where I need the music to distract myself, but I also have the times where I need the silence. I have found a type of music though recently (literally this week) where I can listen to the music at any-time … Look up David Arkenstone, you wont be disappointed!
Show us a two of your favorites photographs? Explain why they are your favorite. If you are not a photographer, think of a two favorite scenes in your life and tell us about them.
This is more a of a screenshot of a live safari feed that I watch. If you read my Blog, you will already know how much I love this Safari feed. This one just reminds me of how little baby elephants truly are. How anyone could want to kill such a sweet thing, is beyond me.
Oh, come on…What’s NOT to love about this photo?lol…It created such fun and happy times.
What is your favorite tradition? (family tradition, church tradition, whatever)
Christmas…I LOVE Christmas and over the years we have changed some and improved others. One of my favourite traditions though is when the adults have our secret santa presents. My Grandfather passed a few years ago and one of his “things” was to wrap presents in newspaper, and since he passed every Christmas the adults wrap their secret Santa presents in newspaper. One of the reasons its my favourite is because we live all over the country, we swap newspapers to wrap the presents in and spend most of the day trying to guess who is whose “Secret Santa”.
If you could go back and talk to yourself at age 18 what advice would you give yourself? Or if you are younger than 25 what words of wisdom would you like to tell yourself at age 50?
Keep up with the travelling, but work towards becoming a Librarian earlier. If you have to work full time and study at the same time…DO IT!
Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
My partner not making me feel guilty about wanting to spend some alone time, because I was stressed out about an assignment due this week. I am looking forward to NOT having to make another public presentation…Ever Again!lol
First Day of School!
So today would have been the first week of a new school/TAFE year for me, but for the whole month of February I am working full-time, so I can’t join my class mates right now.
I LOVE to study, I think even if I was to work all the time, there would still be something that I would want to learn about. I sometimes wonder if that’s part of the reason I like being a Librarian because Libraries have so many different items, book – fiction and non-fiction, audio books…Every-time I go into my volunteer work there is always a new author or topic I learn about.
Those who are heading back to school this week, I wish you a year of learning, studying and having your mind grow and expand.
30 Days of Gratitude…Days 8 – 14
(Well this one shall be very interesting since for half of it I’ll be at a family reunion).
Day 8: Alone – My mum is gone all weekend so this means that I have the entire weekend to myself! So far it’s been bliss (mind you though I’ve had to do homework all day). One of the things that I love at being home alone for a weekend by myself is the absolute solitude. Don’t get me wrong, living with my Mum isn’t all bad. Sometimes though you do a couple of days to yourself, so you can regather yourself back together. My mum has this habit of coming home and as soon as she walks through the door is complains. Sometimes, especially on bad days I actually dread her coming home because I know she’s going to complain about something and it makes me feel worse. I am grateful to have these rare moments alone.
Day 9: Study – I have finally managed to hand in a huge project and it was a huge effort to put since it was a topic I was not interested in and it took forever. Pretty much every spare day I had was taken up with it. This entire weekend I spent working on it and I have a test I really needed to study for. The reason I am grateful for my studies though is because not only is it helping me get into the career of my dreams. I am learning different things that help me in my work. At the moment we are learning how to make web Dewey numbers, every section of Dewey that I’ve learnt I’ve been able to then help customers out where I work. Sometimes work is busy so I don’t really have time stand back and learn.
Day 10: Drama Free: So there I was thinking what am I grateful for, because nothing really happened today…but there is something to be grateful in that alone…Nothing…Only two weeks ago I was angry beyond comprehension and my ex messing me about was beyond horrible. He made me feel worthless and the pain he had and was putting me through meant nothing to him. Like he didn’t care whether I was dead or alive and then he speaks so condescendingly to me….To NOT have anything like that in my life, is calming and beautiful.
Day 11: Single-hood – So I had a HUGE test today on my toughest subject. After the tests on this subject, my brain is completely fried and I fall asleep where ever I am. It was in this moment that I’m grateful that I don’t have children and I can rest easy. I’m also grateful because though by the time I have children I will be an expert on the subject, have a good job because of my studies and be able to comfortably provide for my children.
Day 12: My bed – I know this seems like an odd one, but I am very grateful to have a bed that I can get into a night and feel safe at night. I can dream at night, feeling safe with a roof over my head and safe in my bed.
Day 13: Brother – My brother came back today to visit us as we going on a family reunion trip this weekend. The reason I am grateful for my brother isn’t because he’s done anything amazing for me. He’s done great things for me, but the reason I am grateful to have the brother that I do is because he reminds me constantly what a MAN is. My brother is a Drag Queen, and a seriously good one at that too. He has won many Australia awards for the work that he had done. While I have all these “straight manly men” telling me that a man is only a man if he has a beard, or if he has big shoulders…My 6’4′ gangly brother is being a man, by being who he truly is. He is a constant reminder that a man is not made by what is on his face (neither Steve McQueen or James Dean had a beard can I just say too) or what he hides behind. A man is a man because he has the strength to be who he truly is. THAT’S a man!
Day 14: Family – By the time you read this I will be with my family at our family reunion. I LOVE my family we are all so different but we love each so much. It’s our differences that hold us together. A round up on the “labels” of people that will be at this reunions are: gay, straight, religious, athletic, creative, intellectual, spiritual. Yet, I can guarantee that we will have the most amazing time. From all of my other friends I know how incredibly lucky that I am too have the family (mothers side) that I do…My Dad’s side, don’t even talk to each other.
Study! How to
I am in the middle of a huge research project so this isn’t going to be a huge “Fact Friday” today. What a better topic to write about though than studying! It’s a massive fact of life, at some point everybody will be in school…Or even schooling from the school of life! Which I think it is a completely legitimate school in itself.
So how do you study? Do you need completely quiet, can you study in a noisy workplace. Personally I need something quietly playing in the background while I’m studying. Is it’s too quiet my mind will start to wander and wonder, if it’s too loud I can’t concentrate on the studying.
WikiHow has some great ideas on how to study. They give advice on how to study alone and studying in a group.
College Humor have created this really funny parody about studying.

This is definitely a site for looking for that next book to read, with a bibliography of over 30,000 authors and information on 350,000 books. This is a fantastic site for looking for authors who write similarly to your favourite authors. It also informs you of any new stories that will be coming out soon

This is such a fun site! You get a daily article, you can play likes Hangman and Spelling Bee. You can create your own page. The main articles on today’s page are about Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Researchers releasing thousands of Mosquito’s (who knows why!…Read the article!)

The Magic of Study
Today I went back to school and I cannot lie, I do find studying and school magical…I would love to be able to say that I find school “Harry Potter” type magical…but it’s a different type of magic.
I love to learn…Discovering new things to discover and finding how big and yet, how small, and connected we truly are. How different we are, yet at the same time, completely the same. Learning where we’ve come from and learning where the possibilities can lead us too.
To learn something new is to find something magical every single time.
