Share Your World…January Week 2

Do you prefer a bath or shower?

I honestly prefer a shower. I really like the idea of a bath, but usually after about 5 minutes I either get tired and sleepy, or I get bored. Although with a shower I can stand for hours and perfectly be happy and not be bored.

What do you do to make a living or during the day? If you are retired what mostly occupies your day? Or if you are a student what are you studying?

I work two casual jobs, one is at an adult entrance type school and I help students enrol, set up their fees etc. That job has busy and quiet periods, so sometimes I’ll be working every day and then can go a few weeks with no work (usually over the Christmas period). My other work place is within a council Library (there are about 5). Since I’ve been sick though, I have not heard from the Library, it’s depressing really =/

Is there a stuffed animal in your bedroom?

Only one? I’ve got a few…and another on the way! It’s a large Yoda, and I want to use it to meditate with =D I am getting rid of a few, to make up for it. I did promise to myself (and my mum) that if I got the Yoda, I would get rid of some others. No specific number, but I know which ones are going.

What inspired you or what did you appreciate this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

I have just been really productive this week and it has meant that my anxiety has been really alright this week.

Mentor

43. A great Mentor or Teacher

I instantly knew who I was going to write about when I saw this one.

If you read my “Share Your World” post this week, you probably noticed that I wrote about my difficulties in High School and how it was difficult for me as I had learning difficulties i.e. Dyslexia, but none of the teachers recognised this…Except for one.

My Classical Studies teachers noticed that I had really good ideas, but it was my sentence and grammar structure that just seemed a little off to him. So instead of just ignoring that what we did was every time I had a huge project or written assessment come up. He would take the time to sit down with me for about an hour. We would go through what I had written so far and he would help me to correct any mistakes I made. It was the only class where I ended up with B’s AND A’s and no C’s.

Since he helped me I have had this love for anything ancient, so Ancient Rome, Egypt, Greek etc. I think he has a lot to do with that. It made me feel smart and made me feel like I wanted to be there and learn even more.

Study! How to

I am in the middle of a huge research project so this isn’t going to be a huge “Fact Friday” today. What a better topic to write about though than studying! It’s a massive fact of life, at some point everybody will be in school…Or even schooling from the school of life! Which I think it is a completely legitimate school in itself.

So how do you study? Do you need completely quiet, can you study in a noisy workplace. Personally I need something quietly playing in the background while I’m studying. Is it’s too quiet my mind will start to wander and wonder, if it’s too loud I can’t concentrate on the studying.

WikiHow has some great ideas on how to study. They give advice on how to study alone and studying in a group.

College Humor have created this really funny parody about studying.
