Australia Op Shop Week! Start…and go!

Oh my goodness! How GOOD is Op Shop shopping! For those who don’t know what a Op Shop is, it’s basically Australia Charity Shopping. I’m not actually sure what Op Shoo stands for, so I’m going to find out!

So Op Shop stands for – Opportunity Shop. Which is basically charity shopping. The shops are usual run by a charity, or a thrift shop owner.

Thrifty Me and Thrifty You

If you follow moi on Instagram yesterday, you would have seen me post on the old Instagram of moi in some clothes from a “thrift shop” More namely ‘Save the Children’. I am surrounded by “thrift” shoppers and they always get these amazing things and deals. I don’t know why I haven’t gone into them more often! There’s a real nice one about a five minute walk from one of the places that I work at.

What I really love about Thrift/Charity shops is that the money is going to a different charity. Depending on where you shop obviously, some are for people, some are for your own countries, some help other countries, some help animals.

While I was waiting for a regular prescription, I decided to pop over to our local charity shop, and got a whole outfit for less then $10! I actually popped into see if they had a jar that I could have played with to make a “poison” bottle for my Wednesday Addams Halloween outfit.

Its been making me think though, since I went. What if I go to the more upmarket ones, I could probably find good gifts for Christmas? Even the little one near me had good enough stuff that I found a whole outfit, what if I took the time to actually look. I think of the stuff I have given to Charity for one reason or another, there’s something good stuff out there.

Who else is a “thrifty” shopper?

Share Your World…January 29, 2018

If you had an unlimited shopping spree at only one store, which one would you choose? Why?

Oh dear…How could I chose?! It’d have one of three and would honestly depend on what I needed the most at the time. I would love either IKEA, Zing Pop, Rose Wholesale (online though), Crossroads or Dymocks. The only problem with Dymocks is that it’s a bookstore and they don’t sell book cupboards…So where would I put all the books?!

What is the worst thing you ate recently?

Buffets are always a bit of a give and take…Some of the food I ate was so yummy, but the chicken teriyaki…The chicken wasn’t cooked properly!

Name five things you like watching…

I am assuming that is about shows or movies I like watching rather than genres? It’s what I’m going to go with!

  • Homicide Hunter.
  • Any shows that are about Ancient Cultures.
  • Last Week Tonight with Jon Oliver
  • I have really been loving Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath. It’s completely fascinating and I highly recommend it!
  • Wow Presents: Bro’Laska…It used to be a YouTube show, but now you have to pay for it. On a different platform.

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

As always my puppy, Pippy. I like to call her my unofficial therapy dog. Animals are just lovely.

This week Bookmark Chronicles would like to know:

How long has it been since you last bought a book?

  • 1-7 days
  • 8-14 days
  • 15-21 days
  • 22-28 days
  • Over a month

It has been kind of over a month since I bought a book. I say “kind of” because I did buy a book from where I work, a lot of Libraries will have some sort of book sale. They make good money from those. From an actual book store, has definitely been over a month. My brother got me a book store gift certificate and I have actually bought a book from the store. Now comes the responsibility though of what books do I buy, do I wait for a sale, do I just go crazy and get what I want. Or do I wait for a book I want to read to come out or be on sale…The pressure!lol

Yes! Just Yes!

I don’t think that I even need to write a whole post about this one!

19 F@#king Infurating things about Women’s clothing! (Buzzfeed Article)

I have actually been trying to get another jumper/sweater that I can just wear around the house (I only really have the one) and I can say that I can completely relate to Number 8,9 and 17 at the moment!

This week Bookmark Chronicles would like to know (and I would like to know as well)

Where do you get most of your books from?

Physical bookstores – Online – Secondhand book sales – Gifts – Book subscription boxes

(Can only give one answer!)

These days I buy a lot of my books online. I like to read the reviews of the book, all good and bad and then head online and buy them. I always feel so guilty though about it, because in my town, we don’t have the best economy in the world and over the last few years, we have had SO many book stores just close down. It is one of my goals though, this year, too actually get out and buy from actual bookstores…It would save a lot on shipping and postage!

I would love to know as well though where you all get your books from. See the different options out there.

Thankfulness

As I mentioned yesterday in my post “Share Your World … Week 47” Since I live in Australia aka Down Under we don’t have Thanksgiving. Doesn’t mean we’re not grateful, and I know one group of people who are having a Grateful Thanksgiving dinner here.

One thing that I am grateful for here is because of Thanksgiving, we are able to take advantage of a lot of the online Black Friday sales, and I do love me a good sale! Especially just before Christmas! I am also thankful I only have to see video of the people who visit stores on Black Friday…They are terrifying! We should also not forget the Native Americans who are protection the water at Standing Rock.

Although I have seen that all my favourite Geeky/Nerdy online shops are having Black Friday sales today as well…What’s a girl to do!

Share Your World … Week 44

What was your favorite subject in school?

I actually had two I really enjoyed, but one was was made better than the other just by how one subject was treated. I LOVED my classical studies class because my teacher was the teacher who discovered my dyslexia, rather than just ignoring it. So he’d go through my projects and papers with me. It was the only class I got A’s and B’s in. I also really loved Drama, but my teacher would always pick the same people for the best parts. I felt such satisfaction though at the end of year play. In the main play, I was more eye candy than acting. However, I was the lead in the short play before the main play. My group got praised and the actors in the main play got slammed. It feels evil of me now, but I was a little happy, because I had so many of the others actors come up to me during rehearsal and say “What are you even doing here, you’ve only got one line”?

If you could have a servant come to your house every day for two hours, what would you have them do?

Can they do the Garden? It’s really the only thing I don’t get any fulfilment from. I’m just lucky in terms that my partner and my Mum, may not necessarily be overjoyed doing the gardening, but they don’t hate it like I do. I’m sure they’d appreciate getting some help for it though.

Where did you live when you were in the third grade of school?  Is it the same place or town you live now?

I lived in a different place to where I lived when I was in third grade. Some of my family live near the area and we tend to go past it on the way back, just to see if anything has changed.

In your opinion, list some places that are great for shopping?

I love places like Kmart, Big W and Target…and Neds!

Zing Pop…It’s probably my favourite place, but it’s full of nerdy type things. Like figurines, superhero clothing, nerdy/geeky accessories. It’s not full of “practical” things, lol.

Lovisa is my favourite jewellery accessory store. They always have some kind of sale or special on. EVERY time I go in there I buy something else.
