Technically, it’s the last “calendar” day of Autumn, and the Southern Hemisphere is now heading into it’s Winter. I think weather-wise, Winter starts on a particular day.
QUESTIONS: Now I realize that everyone doing SYW doesn’t live on this side of the world and on the other side of the world it’s now winter. So substitute, if you’d like and if it’s more appropriate, “winter” for summer and answer the questions that way. 🙂
- Are you a Summer person? A Winter person? Or one of the other seasons suits you best?
I am a Spring person to be honest with you. Winters too cold and Summers too hot, Autumn is meh. Mainly because though it’s heading into Winter. Spring is just right.
- What is your favorite summer time clothing?
I really love pretty dresses and skirts. I’ll be honest here for a second, I really love dresses in particular that are long and have a little sleeve. I grow hair SO quickly and am terrified of waxing. So having that length, let’s me go one or two extra days without having to be embarrassed that I haven’t shaved yet,lol
- Do you find yourself eating out more during the summer? Or making ‘cold food’ like salads and stuff you can heat in the microwave?
I do find myself eating out more, but I still will eat warm food. Usually most places have pretty good air conditioning, so it’s not too bad. My partner probably eats delivery more during Winter, but I don’t really like too. It gets really expensive after awhile and even if you get something delivered that’s “healthy”. It’s not really that healthy. It’s the sauce that most delivery and eating our places have, that kill the food. Since I’ve had to start watching my cholesterol, I’ve become so much more aware of these things.
- Do you like watermelon? What’s your favorite summertime treat?
I do like watermelon. It’s funny though because its just really all types of other melons that are my favourite during Summer. I don’t dislike watermelon, I just prefer other types of melons, like honey dew, cantaloupe etc.
Australia is now heading more and more into Winter…Never fear though! Now it’s time to crack out those Winter Time Favourites!
I have a weakness for beanies. I used to really like ear muffs, but for some really weird reason, they make me feel off balanced.
Do you have any favourite Winter clothing, or accessory?
I have a favourite REALLY bad comfort food Winter dish, that I just love and I probably wont eat this Winter, because my cholesterol will go out the roof!…It’s two minute chicken noodles AND mac ‘n’ cheese.
Do you have a favourite Winter food?
There is nothing better than, well I think, a nice hot cup of tea on a cold Winters night. I can’t really drink coffee anymore, it heightens my anxiety. I hate drinking anything cold, but sometimes I get sick of drinking just tea. I also love hot chocolate or cocoa with marshmallows. I’m very much a kid at still really, lol.
What are some of your favourite Winter Drinks?
Of course above all my favourite activity is reading and writing. However this year I am (if you’ve been a regular reader of mine) I am planning on starting to make my own Candles. Who knows? Maybe this will become my favourite Winter activity! Maybe I’ll do this for Winter and Autumn, something else for Summer and Spring? Let’s see!
Do you have any specific Winter activities?
(How freaking adorable!)
What did you or did not like about the first place you lived without your parents?
WELL…lol…The mistake I made was moving with a few friends whose one parents owned the house. Which meant they could do anything they wanted, and we could not. We also paid our rent on time (we paid our money directly to our ‘friends’parents, not through a landlord…BIG MISTAKE!) and yet the amount of times we had the water cut off was ridiculous! The thing that made us even angrier, I was the last person to move in. Instead of the rent being less for everyone, I had to pay the exact amount of money, and they had to keep paying the same amount of money…So they were getting MORE money and yet the water STILL kept being cut off. No one lives there anymore, lol.
Oh! Oh! Even if you were in a couple, we EACH had to pay $400 a month. So you couldn’t divide it between you. We had 6 people living there one time and we ALL paying $400 and still the water was getting cut off.
What is your most favorite smell/scent?
I have these black candles “Madison French – Moonlight Mist” They smell beautiful…I haven’t even burnt them yet! I buy some every time they have them, but they have them so few times, that I don’t want to burn them. I only have about 5 or 6 and I haven’t seen any of them for over year now.
Would you prefer snowy winters, or not, and why?
I have never even seen a snow in Winter…I come from “Down Under”. So we don’t really get snow in Winter, up in the mountains in Victoria I believe they do…Not really anywhere else. So I cannot honestly answer, I’d probably enjoy a snowy day for that…a day, lol…I am no good with cold.
What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week? Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.
49. Things you like about Winter
Even though it’s Summer here, it still actually feels like Winter is here still. It was literally reported on the news that over the pass week, at the start of the week. That there was going to be 3 months of rain in three days and it has most have definitely felt like it!
I am also not really a big “Winter” person, I tend to get very miserable and not being able to just head out when I want too can be frustrating (but this can also happen in Summer, just with a little heat). I find it can also be easier to cool down, then to warm up. Nothing to seems to ache in Spring/Summer either.
However, there are a few things that I do enjoy about Winter:
- Having a hot drink, especially on a cold, rainy night. I like to just hold it in my hands.
- It’s more of an excuse for cuddling!
- Those long hot showers and baths.
- I look good in a coat!
- Wrap yourself up in bed with a good book!
34. Things you like about Fall/Spring
There are so MANY things that I love about Fall and Spring, I’m a big fan of Spring the most though, It is definitely my favourite season of the whole year. Even though nothing “special” is in it…Spring is a special three months all on it’s own!
I love Spring, it means that Winter is finally over and yet, it’s not too hot at the moment like it is in the Summer. It’s just feels perfect, you can stay outside without either freezing or sweltering. You can swear skirts and dresses without over heating and at the same time not freezing either. I always love the first day of Spring, when it really feels like Spring. Every time I really feel like that first day of Spring the only song that comes on in my head “Here comes the sun” by George Harrison. It will play over and over again in my head and it is GLORIOUS!!!
I usually do these posts on a Friday because it’s give me a whole week to reflect from the last one. I can’t help but start to dream of Summer though even before Friday. Due to me being in the Southern Hemisphere, we are heading towards the colder weather. Each day is getting that little more warmer. Hence why I am writing this Blog earlier than I usually do, because being cold makes me think of all the lovely warm things Summer brings with it.
- Dresses and Skirts
- Ice Blocks…I don’t really eat ice cream, mainly ice blocks.
- It feels easier to travel to places.
- Places just seem nicer to visit. Not only do I mean actual places seems nice to visit, but as my above answer says, travelling just seems more pleasant.
- It’s usually lighter outside for longer.
- For me, being in the southern hemisphere, means that Summer is during Christmas. Lots of public holidays, lots of seeing people you love.
- Going for leisurely walks with my dog, instead of rushed ones, hoping we don’t get wet and cold…and potentially getting ourselves sick.
- New Years is also over Summer and this year we’re going to be going to a hotel looking over a popular beach. It’s going to be fantastic!
Would you rather live where it is always hot or always cold?
Always hot (as long as it’s not too boiling) I could never ever live somewhere where it always cold, I think I would die. I am really not a fan of the cold, it’s horrible getting to and from work and then you have to try and make yourself warm. Thanks to my anxiety, I do much better when I can put the window down, and during Winter you can’t really do that.
Do you prefer long hair or short hair for yourself?
I have always had long hair, the shortest that I’ve ever had is probably to my shoulders and that was because my Mum “accidentally” cut my hair all lopsided, so we had to keep cutting it to make it even.
What is your favorite month of the year?
Probably December, which surprises people a lot because it’s not my birthday month, but as I’ve mentioned in a previous post. Birthday very rarely go the way that we would like them too. I’m a big Christmas person though, I always enjoy Christmas. Even last year when I had to do a lot of my shopping online because of my anxiety, as I found it hard being in a very full shopping centre, I still enjoyed it…Mainly it’s the people. Also the weather is nice and warm, not too hot yet, but warm enough I can wear skirts and dresses and feel great.
What is the easiest way for your to learn something new? By reading, by seeing and doing, in a classroom?
I have to kind of see it and do it myself as well, and I probably will take a few times to see it. It’s funny that this question is in here today. As I’m writing this I started training at a new job and I kind of felt thrown in at the deep end today. No one really explained to me how the phone works, the kind of enquiries they get over the phone, and they kept doing that too me! I was getting really annoyed, they didn’t even tell what was then hold and transfer button. All it would have taken is one time for me too see to get it. In all honestly when that happens to me, I don’t learn anything, I panic on the spot and take nothing in.
15. Things you like Spring/Autumn (it’s Autumn here at that time)
I’m just going to start with saying that it’s actually Autumn here at the moment, instead of Spring like it is overseas. Spring is probably my favourite month of the year though, Winter is gone and it’s not yet really hot like it is in Summer.
- Well my Birthday month is within Autumn…So that’s always a great start to the season.
- I love seeing all the browning leaves on the ground and even though I’m an adult, I love to kick at them.
- It starts making for the start of cuddling weather.
- I can finally start wearing my gorgeous jumpers and coats again.
- Easter is here…Although over the years I’ve gotten less and less chocolate, which is fine, because I never ate it…We have a lot of public holidays which means seeing family and friends. Before nesting in for the Winter.
“That moment when you are struggling in the heat because there has been no Spring and it was just kind of skipped, straight onto Summer, and you didn’t even realise it”.
