The tale (I’ll use the proper word now ~.^) of the second tailless Lioness is one full of adventure, heartbreak and above all survival! Yes, that’s right…I did write the ‘second tailless Lioness. The tailless Lioness of which I am writing about today is the younger of the Tsalala tailless Lioness’s. The younger is daughter to the older.
The story of how these two Lioness’s lose their tail, are not the only similarities between the two.
The both lost their tails through attacks by Hyena, they both managed to take cubs away from the dangers of intruding male coalitions. Helping most of them survive all the way to adulthood. They come to rest in the same place. James Tyrell has been able to write her story much more beautifully than I can.
I love to curl with a cup of tea or coffee, depending on my mood. You will also probably find me playing one of my favourite computer games, either, Sims 4 or Guild Wars 2. Lately I have started roller-coaster tycoon lately. I am also watching the Safari Live that I am obsessed with. You might also find me though cleaning the house. I find that if it’s a cold rainy day it helps me keep warm and keeps the heater off for a while (helps with the bills as well) but it also makes me feel like I’ve actually done something that day.
List at least five favorite treats. (They do not have to be sugary).
I love these things called “Soy Crisps” except if I have too many, I will throw up though.
There’s a yummy summer treat that I love making called “Rainbow ‘Broken Glass’ Jelly“. Link is too a YouTube video recipe. It’s really simply and you can use whatever colours you makes. I usually make them around the Summer/Christmas holidays.
I loooooooooove chocolate custard and or mousse.
Chocolate Chip cookies…Especially Double Chocolate Chips. I used to get just them at Subway, no sandwiches, and now I’ve discovered a recipe that I make myself =D
I enjoy chewing on healthy fruits as well, sometimes I feel the need for them. My favourite fruits to chew on are granny smith apples (the green ones) and I love to eat banana’s.
Where’s your favorite place to take out-of-town guests?
We usually will take them for a walk around the city, which depends on the weather. A great place we like to take is this little German town called Hahndorf, it’s so quaint but is a great place for a holiday day out. it honestly depends on what the weather is like, most people come and visit around Summer/Holiday times. We have a couple of gorgeous of beach towns around as well.
You are trapped in an elevator, who would you want to be trapped with?
Definitely my partner, mainly because he’s the only one I could trust not to talk about my anxiety while we’re trapped in the elevator, lol
*At the time of this post the Safari will have started…They will have the Fireside Chat at the end of the drive…Which will be at the end of the drive, roughly 2 hours and 45 minutes from now*
If you a regular reader of mine, you may have heard that I am addicted to a live stream feed called “Safari Live” Located at Djuma Game Reserve and Arathusa Safari Lodge in the Sabi Sand Wildtuin. You can watch a live feed of a safari, right from the comfort of your home…TWICE A DAY!
The Queen of all this dominion is the one and only Queen Karula! We have not been able to find her for the past two months, and although she is 13 years old, we still hope every day, but every day a little more hope dwindles. At 13 years old she is probably the most successful Leopardess in the area to have ever existed, successfully raising 10 cubs to full adulthood. The death of one of her last litters was not even her fault…Stupid humans.
As mentioned above she has been missing for roughly about two months and we are not sure what has happened to her. We keep hoping that she is off denning somewhere, but with two young Leopards already to take care of, it seems unlikely. There are variety of things that might have happened to her. From Lions, Hyenas other Leopards, even snake bites.
We ask you to join us on this special safari live edition and to stick with us as we celebrate the Queen of Djuma with a special fireside chat after the drive ❤ (Drives are usually about 3 hours long, with the last 15 minutes for the Fireside Chat).
*At the time of this post the Safari will have started…They will have the Fireside Chat at the end of the drive…Which will be roughly 2 hours and 45 minutes from now*
Also, until Friday please head to TeeSpring and buy this gorgeous Karula, Queen of Djuma top and help Wild Earth!
Just a little reminder that this is the second to last show for Wild Earth’s #safarilive show on Nat Geo Wild…Just on the television if you live in America…It should be on right now…Come and join us!
So I’ve been thinking a lot over the weekend and sometimes that 140 characters on Twitter just cannot express how your feeling…Without posting about 20,000 tweets…Which is a little annoying for others…And no chance for editing either!
Over the weekend on the live safari that I watch regularly…(Seriously, check it out). There was a great tragedy that started a huge debate. I thought about what everyone was saying and what I’ve learnt while watching and I just wanted to express how I felt about the situation…That involves more than 140 characters.
The situation involved some of Djuma’s highly endangeredWild Dogs and one of the safari’s more well known Prides the Styx Pride. Usually Wild Dogs are pretty good at getting out of the way of a Lioness/Lion. Wild Dogs have huge ears designed for listening, but unfortunately and by some sad situation, they just didn’t hear the Lioness, and she came out of nowhere to kill one of the younger Wild Dogs. Too lose even one Wild Dog is horrible because they are just so highly endangered. At the same time though I don’t blame or hate the Lioness for killing the Dog, especially with her own cubs being so close by, which if the Dogs are had found, would have torn them apart. The Lioness also does not know that the Dogs are so critically endangered.
It started a huge debate on what type of animal is “better”. The wildlife is not Disney, even in the Lion King, Mufasa doesn’t say anything about NOT eating the antelope. Just all the “Great circle of Life”… stuff … The best thing I have discovered since watching Safari Live was love for all creatures, the herbivores, the predators, even some of the bugs and insects…Have you ever seen a Dung Beetle, did you know how much they can lift?!
Yes I still have my old and tried favourites, but now I just have so many more!
I have a huge amount of respect for Buffalo,
Warthogs make for fierce mothers,
Egyptian Geese duckling are just the cutest,
Jackals are the most nervous creatures I have ever seen and
The hearts of the elephants…Just stunning!
What I’m saying, I hate it when we all fight on the safari live channel, it really unsettles me. People like different animals, and predators having to kill another predator when their own cubs are nearby, it just really is nature. We can’t all like the exact same animals, because, well it just can’t happen…I think we can all agree though, Maggots are just icky.
This post is also a excuse to post this classic video…Enjoy!
Feeling blue? Did your team lose? Looking for something to do today? Want to experience something different? Like animals…If you don’t…What’s wrong with you? =P
Watch wild African animals in all of their natural glory, with very well educated guides … Who know what they are talking about and have some fun while doing it and at the same time you can chat with awesome people like me!
The best part of it though, for today, and if you are lucky enough to live in the United States. You can watch it on the tv on the awesome Nat Geo Wild channel. If you have a Twitter account look out for the hashtag #safarilive too!
Just a friendly reminder that Safari Live is now LIVE on Nat Geo Wild, only in the United States. If you are like me though and you don’t live in the United States you can still watch it live on the Internet.
I have made this entirely different New Years Blog just to express my thanks and gratitude for an entirely different group of people. We’ve gone through a lot together, from difficult technical issues to illnesses, to the death of beloved and favourite animals.
Most of us have never even actually met before, yet we feel loss without one another when one of us hasn’t been around for a while. I would definitely consider all of you to be my friend and good friends at that. Some of you are better friends to me than my friends that I see.
You have all brought so much happiness to my life and gotten me through some really rough days. I don’t know what I would have done with the awesomeness that you have brought to my life.
I raise my glass to you! I’m not sure you know what you’ve done for me, the happy you’ve brought into my life ❤
January 1st my American friends will be able to watch the Safari Live right own their own television via Nat Geo Wild. Looks like 2017 is starting off on a great note! Well for my American friends anyway. I can’t recommend watching this enough! I’ll still be able to watch via Ustream and YouTube…But the Americans will be able to watch it n tv. (I’ll probably write a post on January 1st again).
Last week I promised myself that I was going to think at least 80% positively for the week and I have to say that I think I did really well. I was probably more 70%, but it was still a good number! I think that we are finally getting that first Spring weather is helping me a lot to think more positively. I am not a Winter person at all!
*Warning…Long post incoming*
Part of my positive thinking was saying thank you my local Chemist (as seen here: Thank you … My Local Chemist) and I thanked them for help they had given me during my time when I developed an odd form of anxiety.
This week I would LOVE to say thank you to my “online life” and the people I’ve met via the Internet.
I don’t think many people realise the amazingly positive impact that they’ve had on me through my online life. This includes people who I interact with via WordPress, my Safari Live family, sometimes Instagram etc. I have met someone awesome incredibly people on these sites, who have helped me expand my mind, shocked me (in a good way) and have become more a part of my daily life and probably know me better than even my real life ‘life’ people.
It’s introduced me to a world of people who think the same way as me, who will allow people in and out of their lives based on what’s on the inside rather than the outside, or what they want people to perceive them as. I was at a point in my life where I was SO tired of losing “friends” because I didn’t want to pretend anymore, because I wanted to fight for things, rather than swear all the time and be a certain way (I swear people told me I should swear more because a certain girl they want to sleep with swears…a lot) I was tired of feeling like a bad person because people would literally tell me I should be more like “Girl A, or Girl B” or had to impress people to make life easier for themselves. I had someone tell me once I shouldn’t wear headbands, so now I wear them all the time when they’re around…I think my headbands are gorgeous!
I was tired of the same dramas I have been involved since High School, especially when I’m supposed to be in my 30’s and all the people still doing the drama’s are in their 30’s.
This is what you all brought me, you brought me a family that accepted me as one of your own, because of what I already bring, not what you think I can bring, or what you *think* I should bring. You actually like having me around, for me ❤ I’m not sure you will ever understand how much freedom you have all give me, how much power you have given back to me.
