468 years ago today, the Lady Jane Grey (and technically England’s first Queen) was removed from the Throne. Lady Jane Grey was appointed the ruler of England but her accession to the throne lasted only a mere nine days.
The execution of the sentence was suspended, but the participation of her father, in early February 1554, in Sir Thomas Wyatt’s rebellion sealed her fate. She and her husband were beheaded on February 12, 1554; her father was executed 11 days later.
If it hadn’t been for her father, the Lady Jane would have more than likely been released, or at the very least kept in “jail” or would have been transferred to a smaller castle or home to be watched. Either way, she more than likely would have lived. #DeadbeatDads.
Out of all the Royals in History, personally, I feel sorry for Lady Jane the most. A lot, if not all, happened to her, because of OTHER people. She was executed because of her father and brother, not because she actually did anything wrong. Let’s be honest, I don’t think she was ever brought up to be Queen. And it’s not like she would have had a choice to say “No”. I mean, some men today still think “No” means “Yes, please”. At the same time we know so little about her, even though she was technically she was the first Queen of England (and the others, haha). If Mary hadn’t of won (which the Lady Jane was again, not aware of anything. She was trusting her advisers) Lady Jane Grey would have been the first Queen of England (and the others, haha) for a long time.
I am currently reading Philippa Gregory “The King’s Curse (The Plantagenet and Tudor Novels #7) Not that I am saying I hate the book, I actually really am loving it. However, what I am hating about it is how similar I can see between then and now.
A man in charge, getting to decide what is state vs religion, a man controlling women. Everyone in fear, around this one man. The only real difference is that these men at the top these days, aren’t able to really order people’s heads off at a whim…Well maybe in Russia. However, generally, these men are just as soulless as King Henry the 8th. The fact that a lot of male world leaders have been more shrugging their shoulders at the deaths of their OWN people. Is VERY King Henry the 8th, when you think about it.
We just recently had the Prime Minister of Australia, say something, VERY Trumpesque, he also really did something Trumpesque. He flew from our capital city, to QLD, on tax payer money…Too attend a Hillsong Prayer Session…Too stand there and say how Australia needs more Churches (we do not) and how social media is a “Demon” (which it is, but he’s on it too).
Although the image of a Songbird with something seemingly seeming to strangle it, is disturbing. The placing of the Crown around the neck of the Songbird is not actually that uncommon. Even Kate Middleton’s and Diana’s, Coat of Arms has a Crown around their animals neck. The Crown around the neck is supposed to represent her place with Harry. Although she is married to a Royal, she is not Royal herself, she is in a supportive role.
Down Under today we are celebrating the Queens birthday (I don’t actually know what the Queen of England’s birthday) … The best part of it though? We get a public holiday here. Celebration! Well to celebrate I am sleeping in and playing video game all day! What do you like to do on public holidays?!
