Let’s talk Podcasts

I love them!

I have a Spotify account, and while most people probably use Spotify for listening to music. I only use it to listen to Podcasts. The ones I’m currently following (but may not always listen too) are:

  • The Michelle Obama Podcast
  • Do you F&@Cking Mind – Alexis Fernandez
  • The Friendship Onion – Dominic Monaghan & Billy Boyd

I would love to listen to some more though! Can you recommend any?

Like peas in a pod…

As mentioned with my February Goals I mentioned how I was going to look into different types of Anxiety apps. This is my write up about what I found. I hope it helps someone else.

Calm: This is probably one of more popular phone apps which helps with anxiety. It comes with an average 4.6 rating. They do have quiet a selection half of which is free and unfortunately the rest you do have to pay for. I managed to find a few things that I found helpful to begin with. The unfortunate thing is that you can only go so far along. Then you have to end up paying for more things. I did enjoy the different types of sounds they had to offer. They had people read audio books as well, which I found nice. Especially the Stephen Fry reading!

Overall rating: I would say that it’s probably a 7/10 … It’s good if you’re looking for something that’s free to an extent. If you want to take it further you will struggle and that can get frustrating.

Atmosphere: I have personally really enjoyed using this one. The basic premise for this one is that you can select different types of sounds. I have been using the one as I fall asleep.  It’s just that though, it’s just sounds. There’s no mediation instruction or anxiety instructions. You can also put a timer on it as well, so it turns after a certain amount of time.

Overall rating: I would highly recommend this one if you need help sleeping. There is such a selection of music and background music.

MeditateBot: This is, I believe, a Facebook app…My first clue should have been “Bot” in the title. Too break it down, it sends you messages to your private Facebook messenger. Inspiring Quotes, healthy tips etc … However, it will just randomly send it to your messenger. Every time I went to put my wifi on I’d have 5 or 6 messages all different kinds.

Overall rating: I guess if you need a little “pick me up” the quotes and the little facts can help, but it wouldn’t be good in an “emergency”. Unlike sounds/voice as well you can’t really sit and listen to it.

*At the moment my personal favourite one is Atmosphere. I use it mainly to help me fall asleep. That’s when I start to have the most issues with my anxiety.*

Never judge your friends or loved ones by how you think…Never Ever

Now you may be asking why have I placed this under “Single in a small City” category?

I feel like it’s important how you treat your friends when you are single and they are in a relationship.

Your friends are not dating someone to hurt YOU…If they are, then they are pretty terrible friend really.

(I don’t like Lena Dunham by the way, this is just a really good quote)

I was told a few years ago by a friend that she extremely jealous of us (her “friends”) being happy in relationships when she is single. Which is why she only told us that her boyfriend was abusing her…I was the only one single at the time…This is just a bad way of thinking, this is not a mentally healthy way to be and to think.

Everybody on this planet walks a different path, very rarely two people will follow the exact same path. How you are when you’re single will be different from how someone else would be single…Which is why you cannot put your thoughts onto somebody else. That’s not fair. Just because my “friend” gets jealous when she’s single and we’re not…Doesn’t mean I’m anything like that. It’s not always about you.

I would hope that my readers are not the type of people who would think this. I can’t imagine why my old friend would have thought I’d be happier to hear that she’s being abused, and since I lived in a different state, there was little I could do. Or that she even had that to talk about in the first place. I don’t think like that, never have.

My point is, if you are the type of person who gets this jealous…That you’d rather hear your friend is getting abused, than hear that they are happy…Please work on this. This is not healthy. This is not a healthy way to think. There is nothing wrong with being single. There’s no shame to it, embrace it, enjoy the freedoms that come along with it.

Otherwise, you too, could end up with an abuser.

I personally would rather be single for the rest of my life, than someone who is abusive towards me.

Work on this before you get into another relationship.

Isn’t it Weird

Over the weekend I saw the weirdest movie I have ever seen…But it was one of those films were you can’t look away either, because you want to know how it ends. No matter how bad or weird it may be…You just HAVE to know how it plays out and what happens too everyone.

The movie I am talking about is “Army of Darkness” (IMdB) . It’s a horror/comedy film that came out in 1992. This isn’t a review of that particular movie but it was just so odd and yet I found it enjoyable, even the ending had me cracking up, even when it was so obvious what was going to happen.

I would just like to know what odd movies or show would you recommend, that are completely terrible but we all just HAVE TO WATCH!

A recommendation

I was watching the Television Critics Award and I was so happy to see that Leah Remini and Mike Rinder WON for “Outstanding Achievement in Reality tv” and it was based on their documentary regarding Scientology. In all honesty I cannot recommend the show highly enough.

The show is called “Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath”. Too break it down, Leah Remini and former high ranking member Mike Rinder talk to people who have been apart of the Scientology and have left for one reason or another. Some of them have left entire families behind and have not been able to see or talk to them since.

While I have your attention as well, you should also look up the Louis Theroux and his documentary about Scientology.

24….A Book you have learned from

24. A Book you have learned from

I have really been struggling with this one, mainly because they are SO many books that I have learnt something from. It’s part of the reason that I love to read, every time I reread a book of mine as well, I find that I learn something new, or I see something that I had never seen before. So saying all that, it’d be hard to pinpoint one particular book.

Some of the authors that I would highly recommend me though if you want to read something to learn from is:

Paulo Coelho – I’ve read quiet a few of his books, and although I do feel that you have to be in a certain place n your life to “get them”. I loved them and I understood them.

Jodi Picoult – She was probably the first author that I found could write well from everyone’s perspective, and I learnt perspective from that, more understanding.

J.R.R Tolkien and C.S. Lewis – These writers taught me to read and use my imagination.

Beatrix Potter – I honestly believe that she taught me that animals have feelings too.

The list goes on in all honesty.

Bean Bags!

I am all about having the most comfortable reading nook. Below is a link to some really gorgeous reading nooks. Please feel free to talk about your own!

30 most beautiful reading nooks (Ebook Friendly)

My question though is, what do you think about bean bags? There’s one I found recently and I’ve never had a bean bag before so I don’t what the “etiquette” is. I would love to hear some recommendations or any funny stories you’ve had with bean bags!

This or That? #85

this-or-that

This or That? #85

This week Bookmark Chronicles (and myself) would like to know:

Would you recommend the book that you are currently reading? (Or the one that you most recently finished if you haven’t picked up a new one).

Let me know what it is and why or why not.

I am actually currently reading two book at the same time. Which I know is a really bad thing to do and I will probably end up reading one over the other, because it’ll get too complicated and annoying otherwise.

I’ll go with the one that I am mainly reading at the moment and will probably be getting through it quicker.

Hindsight by Melanie Casey

I would highly recommend this book if you like the supernatural with a bit of the crime thrown in, just for good measure, like I do. The main character feels what the victims felt, all of the emotions, when they were killed. So she has become a recluse, but she does help the police out from time to time. Of course this is a journey of not only Cassandra, the main character, but also it seem to be a journey for the police officer/detective that is working with her.  The other thing I like about it is at the moment, there haven’t been any real “dull” moments so far”. The book just keeps going.

What is your favorite piece of art? (it doesn’t have to be famous)

Monet

Monet is probably my favourite artist of all time and pretty much for sentimental reasons really. When I was little I thought for a long time that Monet, was in fact, my great grandfather. Monet looked a lot like my Great-Grandfather. There was this book called “Linnea in Monets Garden” and I could have sworn that Linnea was myself, lol. I would love to own this painting.

What made you smile today?

Well I am actually writing this on the Tuesday and it was having a heart-to-heart with my boyfriend that day and clearing things up and becoming closer and getting to know each other more. Today though this will be posted on Thursday after completely my first week of work, I have no doubt that I am happy right now.

Which place do you recommend as a Must-See? Please state which country, state or providence.

Oh my there are a lot of places I would recommend, some I would recommend for only a couple of days, others I would suggest that you stay for a while. Some of my favourite places to visit at any time (can also depend on the weather as well) are: Victor Harbour (beautiful beach town), Hanhdorf, The Blue Mountains and anywhere in Queensland anywhere, lol.

Complete this sentence: When I was younger I used to….

be able to hide the highest in the trees, above my cousins and my brothers, and it was great! They never thought to look where they couldn’t go!

Facebook Official!

So it has been…Since I don’t know when I posted something under this topic. What happened (if you are a fairly new readers) I started a category on here, talking about being single in a small city (a clever take I thought on a famous television show with a similar title). I had set-up a dating site, was dating, all sorts of things.

I was determined to start looking at dating in a whole new light.

Then, I am not even joking, within probably a fortnight of starting the new category. I met someone and now we are all “Facebook Official”. I have learnt that you are not “official” until you are official Facebook. We’ve even said that the big “L” word.

HOWEVER, I do pretty much have 31 years of being single behind me. I have dated the worst, the best and the…well I don’t know what to call them really…behind me. So I will continue to use this category, just more about advice and things I’ve learnt about dating over the years.

For my piece of advice I am going to repost a post of mine, because this an important one! What we leave behind

When you are single you need to be able to have something “fun” and when you have someone in your life, doesn’t matter if it’s a boyfriend or a “lover” (I always say that word funnily). Do not let someone like this determine how good you’re getting it ~.^
