Book Lovers Day

How do you celebrate National Book Lovers Day?

Originally these documents were made on parchment or vellum (calf skin, in case there’s some question) that was then bound tightly with a wooden cover. Often the wooden cover was tightly wrapped in leather to prevent the wood from getting wet and had clasps or straps to hold it shut. In Eastern cultures, carved wooden blocks were used with ink to print out texts on cloth, as early as 220 AD.

Today, we don’t have to read just on calf skin, we can now read on electronic devices.

Known as The Epic of Gilgamesh, this book is a mythical interpretation of a political figure, surviving as a collection of poems

I am probably just going too tuck myself into bed with my Kobo, and read my books on there. I think I am going to be tired to really celebrate it. I just haven’t slept well the last couple of nights. I might even fall asleep before I even get around to reading anything, lol

Book Problem

So I know I said that I was going to make it “lighter” this week, but there is something that we need to discuss!

I cannot get back into reading! It’s been horrible! Normally when I hear that I have a book waiting for me at the Library, I do everything I can do get there. But I’ve let two books go back now, without getting them! I decided to try and see if I could find them on my Kobo, but they’re no on there.

So I have found a couple of books on Kobo, thank god! That I am currently reading, but what if they don’t get me back into the groove of things either!?

What do you do when you have a book slump? Do you even do anything, or do you just wait it out?

World Book Day!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!!!

Thank you:

Thank you SO much to Victorious Pages for nominating myself. I really enjoyed doing this one, especially when I went and found out what my Patronus is. Please go and check them out!

My Questions:

  • What’s your Patronus?

I did the actual test for this… https://my.pottermore.com/patronus … Mine is a tiger =D I have no idea what that actually means though.

  • Which is the best and which the worst book you’ve read so far in 2018?

The best book that I have read so far has to be Circe. It kept me hooked and entertained, I read it within a week. I just sat and read it. The worst has to be, unfortunately, “The Secret Adversary” by Agatha Christie. As beautifully written as it was, I just couldn’t stand the two main characters, I felt like I made no connection with them at all.

  • You find a genie that can grant you three bookish wishes. Which three do you choose?
    1. That I can step into the book that I’m reading. 2. That every book I read, inspires me in some way so I finish all the books! 3. Too stop people from interrupting me when I’m reading a book!
  • Kiss, Marry, Kill: choosing from your latest read, which character you’d kiss, which one you’d marry and which one you’d kill?

So the most recent book I read was “Circe” by Madeline Miller, and it was fantastic!
Kiss) Would be Circe, it’d be an interesting experience I think to kiss a “Goddess”/Titan. Marry) I would Marry Odysseus son as well! Telemachus, what a man, what a man, what a mighty fine man!
Kill)
All of Circe’s family, I am not even kidding, they are horrible!

  • Which movie/tv series turned out to be better than the book?

Hmmm, this is a tough one because there are a couple of movies that I think are just as good as the book. I’ve noticed that tv series don’t tend to do as well as movies though. That may just be me more though. Lord of the Rings, for example, I LOVE the movie. I think though that Peter Jackson did such epic work. It might actually be the only one I like more than the books, but only because they are so long!

  • Would you ever consider creating your own YouTube channel? If yes, would you stop blogging?

I do enjoy making videos, I think though if I started a set YouTube channel. I’d still continue blogging because I enjoy Blogging just a little bit more.

  • Of all the bookish subscription services that exist out there, which one is your favourite and why?

I have bought a couple of Fairy Loots subscription boxes. I tend to find that subscriptions boxes are such a hit and miss, no matter what the subscription box is about. If I could find out in advance, I’d probably buy more.

  • Most anticipated read for the upcoming months of 2018?

All the books that I cannot wait to read are all coming out just before Christmas. All of them! The new books by Cassandra Clare “Queen of Air and Darkness”, a new one by Jodi Picoult. I have already told people these will be on my Christmas list this year! I am so excited for Christmas this year, I had better get them!lol

  • Would you ever try writing a book? If yes, what genre?

I actually am writing right now, I have been writing it on and off for about three or two years. I don’t think it’s even a quarter of the way through. I do it completely for pleasure as well. I tend to write it when I’m by myself, at night and I drink. I love listening to Celtic music while I write. It’s all based on a PSP game I played years ago.

  • If you could live in any fictional universe, which would you choose, and why?

Middle Earth – Tolkiens World. What I’d do to live there!

  • Have you reached your Goodreads goal yet?

I have not reached my Goal yet, but I am ahead and I have three books going as I write this. I think I am going to be able to meet it pretty well.

My nominations and the nominated questions:

  1. What two characters do you ship, why and do they even come from the same books?
  2. What is your favourite genre of book?
  3. (Stealing this one) If you could live in any fictional universe, which would you choose, and why?

The Secret Adversary

First Impressions

As I start to read this book, I can’t help but admit a tinge of sadness when I realise that this book has neither Poirot or Miss Marple in it. However, I do feel as though I do actually know the characters Tommy and Tuppence. I have also realised that there is actually a tv series called “Partners in Crime” which are based on Tommy and Tuppence. I am sad though that this is not a Poirot or Miss Marple book though.

The book itself is beautifully written, it’s so full of what you expect of Agatha Christie, a completely peppy character and a sullen figure. As well as “totally did not see that coming”.

Negative Impressions:

I think my negative impressions of this book are all on myself entirely. When I realised that neither Miss Marple of Poirot were in this book, it honestly did put me off a little. It made it more difficult for myself to read, because I wasn’t really interested in these two characters. There was  nothing wrong with the characters, just that for myself. I was just not interested in it.

The Murder at the Vicarage

The-Murder-at-the-Vicarage

First Impressions:

It felt like I could honestly hear Geraldine’s McEwan’s “Miss Marple” as the Miss Marple in this book. It was uncanny! It was a very weird feeling, but it also made me feel happy to keep reading it as she was my favourite Miss Marple. Did anyone else feel like that as well?

Positive Impressions

I really enjoyed this classic novel! You can tell why Agatha Christie is one of the greats! I have seen this novel on tv and I still couldn’t remember how the two who “did the murder” how they did it. I did not skip to the end. It is a pretty short novel compared to some around her time and those of time, but it just means it makes good for some who finds reading boring. A little bit more pleasurable. (I don’t, but I would highly recommend this for someone who finds it difficult to read long books).

Negative Impressions

Too be completely honest with you all…I didn’t really have anything bad to say about this book. There was one point where I think they got the names wrong, but it was only once, if it happened. The writing was beautifully written and as I mentioned before, I have seen the tv series. However, I could not remember why and how they did it.

I did not read the ending of the book first.
