National Threatened Species Day (Australia) Plant a tree!

Now generally, this is a day where, in Australia (probably NZ too) we take a look and put a spotlight on threatened species within Australian, and more pacific type countries. Due to popularity, we normally look at animals, maybe insects on this day.

What I would mainly focus onto today is on plants and trees. After watching Gardening Australia yesterday, it was horrifying! Simply for our own greed, how many plants are nearly extinct or have rapidly become extinct.

As an example, there are currently over three trillion trees in the world. HOWEVER! We are currently losing 10 billion trees a year!

So get out there and plant a tree!

Farmers of the Skies the Australian Flying Fox, are now considered threatened and on the brink of endangered. They’re called the farmers of the sky, because they like fruits and flowers, then they fly great distances and you know…

As they say in the article by Animals Australia Org

entire ecosystems could collapse

The earth, animals, plants and trees. All know how to make the planet work. We could learn something from them!

Questions:

  • I asked this on an award thingie I was nominated for, and I got such interesting responses, I thought I’d ask it on Share Your World too:  Do you have a favorite kind of tree?
I guess the best I come closest to a favourite tree, is that any tree that is huge. There is something truly magnificent about a huge tree. Like a giant Sequoia, or a huge Fir or a Conifer. They remind me of Ents, or possibly a front door to an underground castle.
  • What bridges are you happy you burned?
Oh, SO many! Usually there’s a pretty good reason I burnt a bridge.  Honestly, I don’t think that there is a burnt bridged that I would ever rebuild for. I have no problem with accepting an apology, but it doesn’t mean I have to be their friend.
  • Would you sacrifice yourself (die) for a stranger?
It depends on the stranger, if it’s a kid, of course. If it’s a Trump, nope.
  • How have your priorities changed since the C-19 virus took over?
I have been looking at employment a little differently. I don’t want something casual, I want something permanent, and I would love it to be permanent part-time. My ultimate dream would be to work from home. But you need money to set up that up. Hence, why I’d love to work part-time. So I can to work, get some money together and still get out of the house. Having something permanent as well, would mean, if a business at home didn’t work out. I can still contribute.
Honestly, I would love to own “New Age” store, the ones I visit. The atmosphere is awesome, but there are none near to me. I don’t have the money to start my own business. I could see myself in a New Age store. I actually kind of was in one once, and I was really good at it. Unfortunately I did not know, the person running the store was actually trying to defraud the Government, too get more money. So when I started to tell our Australian welfare system that I was making money, that I was working. I was fired. We were getting cash in hand, I was only working once a week and I was making like $250 a day. I think it was because my friend, was jealous that I was the newcomer and I was doing way better than her. She’d make like a $100 a day. So when they asked me did no one tell you not to report it to Centrelink, she (my now ex friend) turned around and said “I told her”…She didn’t.

Gratitude Section:

Please feel free to share your gratitude!  During this troubling time, some positive input is sorely needed, so any memes, stories, photos, or anything else you find uplifting is welcome!   Please share!   Thanks!

What I have seen though, that is something to be very grateful. Most people have become kinder, a lot more people seem to be more comfortable reaching out for help. It’s almost like because everyone is pretty much in the same boat, people feel more easier to reach for the help. I am hoping that it will last once this is all over with.

What traditional Christmas decoration is actually a parasitic plant?

I don’t actually know, I feel like I’ve been told this in the past though. Too the Google! Oh my goodness, it’s Mistletoe!

Name something about this holiday season (whatever version you may celebrate) that most people like, but you dislike?

I think just liking Christmas?Hahaha…Maybe it was just the mood this year. I have to be honest, I don’t “dislike” but I don’t consider New Years, to be a “New Year” I feel like our own birthdays are a “new year”. I know that it sounds weird, and I get it’s a new Calendar Year. I like to do the “refreshing” new year, new me. On my birthday.

What’s your favorite – or least favorite –  song sung traditionally at this time of year?

There’s actually an entire Christmas cd that I love and loved for years. If you know who Boney M is (Ra-Ra-Rasputin) In 1986 (I believe) they brought out a whole Christmas CD and I play the whole cd every year!

And the last one ———>  In the song “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer,” what “incriminating” evidence was found on Grandma’s back?

Oh my goodness, Christmas is quite dangerous!lol…I had to Google this one too because I don’t even think I’ve heard of the song before. Is it Claus? Or “Claws”?

Finally:    What would you like to share with the world, if time or cost were no object?

Without a doubt, kindness. I sometimes feel the world is sorely lacking that these days. I got into an argument with someone I use to respect today. They actually think Trump saying they’re taking the US Troops out is going to happen. Not only that though this person does not seem to care that Trump doesn’t actually seem to have a plan. Then, for some reason, this person turned it into a whole Liberals just don’t want the Troops home? LITERALLY NO LIBERAL IS SAYING THAT! We are saying that there needs to be a plan. History has not be kind to the people who are suddenly taken away, people tend to get more aggressive. Not “Oh, okay then, we’ll just let you leave”.

What color do you feel most comfortable wearing?

This is an interesting question because there is actually a colour that I really love to wear, but normally when I’m feeling a bit more extroverted. I like to wear red when I’m feeling a bit “extra”, but I cannot wear it when I’m feeling shy. So this is a really interesting question. I do have this kind of awareness, that certain colours can project certain emotions. When I’m at work for example as well, I tend to wear, not all black, but darker colours. Colours like purples, blues. I do have a green top and I love the colouring of the green, but I haven’t been brave enough to wear it anywhere.

What is your favorite type of dog? (can be anything from a specific breed, a stuffed animal or character in a movie)

Although I do have and have had Pomeranian and Chihuahuas as the only dogs that we have ever had. The type of dogs that I have always wanted is either a Husky, or a Rottweiler. They just always seems like really sweet dogs especially when they are properly taken care. However, I will probably never get one because I know that they would be a lot to handle, I’m too laid back really.

List at least five favorite flowers or plants.

  1. Roses (I know, cliche)
  2. Lilies…I know they are the “death flower” but they are so gorgeous!
  3. Cherry Blossoms…They are so beautiful!
  4. I actually kind of like cactus, they are sort of weirdly beautiful.
  5. There’s nothing better than a big old oak.

What inspired you this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

I have had a lot happen this week, some good, some not so good…and this all I can think of…A lot of people like being treated like dirt…lol…Not the nicest of inspiration, but it was just something that I’ve noticed. I have always been of the mind of why make your life harder than it already is? I’m starting to wonder if some people actually enjoy it? It has inspired me in the way though that maybe I am normal, lol…I have more of a good self esteem. I might actually write  Blog about some things that have been happening to me this week, because it’s been a really odd week, lol

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?

Yard Work! Definitely yard work! The others I kind of enjoy cooking and cleaning and they are almost therapeutic for me, but I loathe yard work. It’s just something that I have never gotten into. My mum has been overseas for the last couple of weeks and I’ve had to upkeep her flowers and they are still alive, but I’ve so not enjoyed it at all!

What makes you laugh the most?

I’d have to say that it’s a combination of my puppy, my partner and my Mum. They just know me really well. My Dog is great because she’s just a silly fluffy bundle of awesome. Sometimes when I get to wake up with her, she’s so happy to wake up to in the morning. She’s all bright and sparkly and wiggles with her tail wagging a lot, hehe

What was your favorite food when you were a child?

Oh wow! This was definitely a strain for my brain. The first thing that popped into my head though, was I used to LOVE this ‘lunch meat’ called Fritz. It’s made from the Devon sausage and they are usually cut up into slices (to put on sandwiches).

List at least five favorite flowers or plants.

  1. I love any kind of Blossom type trees, they are just gorgeous. Especially when they are in full bloom.
  2. Love Lilies, I know that they are associated with Death and so forth. They are utterly beautiful though, all of them.
  3. I love sunflowers, they are so bright, beautiful and happy.
  4. Roses, it might be a cliché, but they are a cliché for a reason!
  5. There is nothing like a great big Oak tree. They are so magnificent and just so magical in the right setting.

I am Lauren…The Plant!

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Name that… You!.”

I was named after the now dearly departed “Lauren Bacall”…There are a couple of different meanings for my name, but the most well known meaning is “the bay, or laurel plant”.

When I was younger “Lauren” was a really unknown name, but it feels like every second person I meet now is a “Lauren”. In fact there is another Lauren I know and we are studying the same course, we volunteer at the same Library and NOW we are working casually at the same place.

I absolutely feel like a Lauren, although to be honest, most people call me a nickname MORE than my actual name, but all my nicknames are based on my natural name. I also think my name is probably one of the most misspelled names ever, there are just too many variations!
