The Originals

I will give Twitter credit for one thing, you get a lot of blog post ideas! Hahahaha … Not in always in a good way mind you!

I am kind of starting to wondering when as adults, we started to get upset about about fictional or made up characters?

I think I have about maybe 10-15 plushies scattered around the house. I used to feel that these made me childish. I felt I wasn’t mature enough because of my plushies. I also a few large figurines. They are mostly of kicking butt fictional women characters. I’ll post them under the post.

The reason behind my post today though is because though, for me, it is getting really annoying and so frustrating to constantly see people complain about fictional characters, and I mean in terms of the where the fictional character actually came from and started as. The two I’m writing about today ae Gomez Addams and April O’Neil.

The reason being that people seem upset that the current and April do not represent the original characters. Except they are completely wrong. April O’Neill was originally a mixed race woman, not the white woman from the cartoons and below is how the original Gomez Addams actually looked.

I get a lot of people would prefer the suave “Gomez”, but this is the original Gomez. For me Luis Guzmán, looks a lot him. I have yet to watch it, but I haven’t heard any complain about him.

It’s getting really tiresome to explain to so called “adults” that one, these are FICTIONAL CHARACTERS and if you don’t like how it’s done, you do it then. Two, if you don’t like it, don’t watch it, you’re not a child. It’s one of the great things about being an adult, you generally don’t have to do anything you don’t want too. There are lot of things you have to do as an adult to survive, work being one one of them. However, you don’t have to watch anything you don’t want too.

Thirdly and maybe the biggest point, a lot of people who do complain about this stuff are often, wrong.

As I was writing this another idiot was talking about how Transformers had never once addressed the issue of pronouns or sexuality. They were going on about how these newest creations were like invaders who destroying their property. Then they were quickly proven wrong. In both how idiotic they sounded and how Transformers has been inclusive in the past.

Liking a cartoon, anime, magna…Whatever, doesn’t make you an expert. Its fictional most importantly, and I admit I love when they can link fictional things together, like how they do it with Dr Who a lot of the time. At the end of the day, it’s just fiction. The most important part of fiction is that it takes you away. Not that it’s 100% accurate every single time.

Cover Song

Come on, let’s be honest here. We’re in a safe space. Are there covers you prefer over the originals? I don’t know about the rest of you, but the radios keep playing reboot of classic songs. While they’re fine remakes, they play like ALL the time. We make bets at our work when the radio stations will play them.

So when I say prefer a cover over an original, it doesn’t mean you don’t like the original. Just, you might like a cover that little bit better. All the ones on the radio, I actually don’t like, lol. They’re fine, but these remixes encourage no originality, whatsoever.

Here a few of my favourite covers: Again, I like all the originals, just fine, I just prefer these ones a little more.

Sorry, lol…I cry at this version.

Share Your World … Week 25

How many languages do you you speak?

I only speak English, but I do know random words in other languages. I can count up to 10 in German and I know a couple of random/general sayings, like Guten Tag (Good Morning) things like that.

What are some words that just make you smile?

I decided to go with whatever words popped into my head…Pippy, Travie, Warm, Mvula, Here comes the sun, Fun, Lasagne, Cubs, Justice.

If you were the original architect of one existing building, which building would you select?

I would want to be the original architect of the Parthenon, I just love that building. I love the ruins of it, where it’s placed, what it represents, who it’s supposed to represent and the view must be absolutely stunning. It is such a strong building, even with it being in “ruins”, it still stands so strongly after a long time.

Would you rather have telepathy or telekinesis?  (Telepathy is the communication using your brain waves, telekinesis is channeling the energy onto physical objects to cause substantial, observable physical changes.)

I think that I would rather have Telekinesis, the thought of being able to read or communicate with people through their minds seems like such a big invasion of ones privacy.

Cravings

I really do love it when a random thought hits my brain sometimes it’s kind of like:

 Brain, Simpson

Any-ways, I was reading a few reviews on some really big movies over the weekend and I saw the same “complaint” about how, even though these movies have been proving really successful…”Hollywood can’t come up with original”.

Then seeing this over and over, and although I agree, and realising that I don’t even mind because I enjoy these movies so much. I started to think to myself, most of the movies coming out are either:

a) reminiscent of my childhood,
b) are “simple” and by that I mean, they have big bangs and bad guys vs good guys.

Then it occurred to me, maybe that’s it? Maybe that’s why these “unoriginal” movies are doing so well? Maybe we’re all craving more simplicity in our lives? A reminder of when time was more simple? I don’t know about you all, but I’ve never noticed a really annoying trend, where everything is bad these days, and on the great big grand scale of things they are really not bad things. When you think about these “bad things” you think to yourself, if that’s the biggest complaint in your life, you have it pretty darn good.

#FlashbackFriday

Over the past week my work has quietened down a bit so I have been able to voluntarily watch a bit more of the television. Lately the television stations have been a lot of shows from the past and it has been amazing! There is definitely truth in the saying “They just don’t make them like they used too”.

A lot of the shows that I’ve been watching as well are all comedies. Comedies are just my favourites. Let me refresh your memories and lets take a step back on a much “easier and kinder” time.

Good Times” (ran from 74 – 79)

This show is a spinoff from the show “Maude” which was also a spinoff from “All in the Family”. The main premise of the show is two parents and three children living in a housing project in a poor black neighborhood. When I read more about the show I was a little surprised to learn that the show was originally meant to be more serious. It is a great comedy show though. I have never seen the show before and I was laughing through the whole way through.

Who’s the Boss” (ran from 1984 – 1992)

Anthony Morton “Tony” Micelli (played by Tony Danza) is a former second baseman who was forced to retire due to a shoulder injury. He wants to move out of Brooklyn to find a better place for his daughter, Samantha (played the sweetheart Alyssa Milano). He ends up taking a job in up-scale location, as a live-in housekeeper for divorced advertising executive Angela Bower (played by Judith Light) and her son Jonathan. This was an interesting show as it portrayed a women/mother as the breadwinner (even though Danza and Lights characters didn’t date in the show until later). It was probably one of the first shows where this was the case and it was HILARIOUS!

The classic “Different Strokes” (ran from 1978 – 1986)

This show was based around two African American boys from Harlem who are taken in by a rich white businessman and widower and his daughter, for whom their deceased mother previously worked. Although this show is a comedy it has some extremely “hard core” topics, especially for it’s time. The main focus being about racism and in their personal lives all of the stars were hit with persona tragedy.

Deadpool vs Zoolander 2

In the last week I have seen both Deadpool and Zoolander and it’s amazing how vastly different the two movies are. Zoolander 2 is one of those movies that has it’s bits, but there are others that just run on and on and I’m not sure who made the decision that it was…well I think they thought it was funny? Deadpool though was amazing when it came to timing. None of the jokes run to long and it kept going, there was a nice flow and it all made sense.

I was disappointed in the Zoolander movie, just because I loved the original so much and I know that there’s the whole the sequels are never as good as the originals, but I really wanted this to be good. Deadpool was just amazing. If there is a sequel (which I believe there will be) I have a feeling it will be good.

It seems kind of harsh to judge these two movies at the same time, even though they are different types of movies. However, I put them together because these are two huge movies of the moment. It doesn’t shock me though that Deadpool is doing so much better than Zoolander 2. I just wish that whoever put the whole Zoolander film together really watched it all together.

Also one of the clear differences was that Zoolander is definitely more “child-friendly” than Deadpool. Here in Australia the rating for Deadpool in only MA15+. Which means children can see it if accompanied by a parent. However, I was shocked by the amount of parents who brought their children into see Deadpool, because I wouldn’t. During the movie I got uncomfortable knowing that there were children in there. It’s not even the sexual scenes, it’s a little gory and there are a few intense scenes.

Beatrix Potter … Reborn!

Oh my goodness! I am SO excited! I seem to be the only person I’ve met so far that is excited about this news. They have found, after a hundred years, they have found ANOTHER Beatrix Potter manuscript!

Harley vs Harley

I am a HUGE fan of the DC character Harley Quinn and by fan I mean the original Harley Quinn. I’ve tried playing and getting into the other Harley Quinn, but as the saying goes “You can’t beat the original”. I just don’t like the other versions of Harley Quinn.

(For those who don’t know this image below is the original Harley Quinn).

harley1This of course is just my own personal opinion, but the other versions of Harley Quinn are just either really annoying or childish (I think that original Harley is child-like, not childish) or they are some kind of “sexed up” version of her. Which isn’t really her either, she pretty much only loves the Joker and she might seem sexy, but I don’t think that she’s even aware of it. Whereas the others KNOW it.

Let me know how you are feeling about the new Harley Quinn in the soon-to-be-released film “Suicide Squad”?!

Anyways, I have been doing some hunting around and I have found some great prints and clothing that I am extremely tempted to buy. Below are some links that I think are a great expression of a lot of people’s views of this new “Harley”.

Jed Thomas probably has the BEST prints and I want to get this one in every version possible! HARLEY Vs. HARLEY Print – Jed Thomas
