Magic

I just want to make my life magical…Adult magical though…Where I wont have to get chucked into a padded jacket though! I do have “adult” colouring books…But I want to live a life where it’s not weird to have Unicorns…Last year was too real for me…I want to make this year Magical!

I’ve heard of some many themed bars and club popping up all over the place, but I would love just one of them not be a bar or club…Have the drink, sure, but I would love to go to a place where you can dress in the theme!

Lady Midnight

*Spoiler Alert – I’m not 100% sure how much I’ll be giving away in this review, but I do discuss things I don’t understand in the book. Which might contain sneaks and peeks at the book.

I have only read one of Cassandra Clare’s series so far “The Infernal Devices“. I absolutely loved the series and I feel so bad that it’s taken me such a long time to get around to reading another one. I feel like I should also point out that I do believe and it is highly suggested that Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunters series are supposed to be read in a certain order which you can find here.

(My personal opinion here) The main players in this particular books are:

Emma Carstairs: a Shadowhunter,

Her parabatai (and “secret love” interest):  Julian Blackthorn,

Mark Blackthorn: who was kidnapped five years ago and now has been returned to the Blackthorn family after being kidnapped by the fairy people.

Breakdown:

The Dark Artifices series is the latest series in Cassandra Clare’s writings. In fact so far in this series there are only two books so far. The final and third chapter of this series should be coming out in fall of 2018. Look out for that!

This series is based around Emma and the murder of her parents from years ago, she did not believe that her parents death was a robbery gone wrong. She believes that there is more to her parents death than meets the eye, probably something even “supernatural”. Emma has been a Shadowhunter for a very long time and after her parents deaths she was then taken to live with the Blackthorn family. The Blackthorn have also lost their parents and live in the Institute with their strange Uncle Arthur.

Emmas parabatai is Julian Blackthorn, the now oldest sibling of the Blackthorn family, since the others were kidnapped or exile. Julian has been taking care of his younger sibling, Livvy, Ty, Dru and Tavvy since he was 12 years old. Julians older half  siblings, Mark and Helen Blackthorn are both half faerie, as their mother was of the faerie people.  Emma’s good friend Cristina also lives with the family and in the institute, she is only there for the year…As sweet as she is, no one really knows that much about her.

*For those who don’t know what a parabatai is, it as a pair of Nephilim warriors who fight together as lifelong partners, bound together by oath, regardless of their gender. Their bond is not reflected only in their closeness and willingness to lay down their lives for one another, but also in oath—one sworn in front of the Council. Parabatai cannot fall in love*

Positive:

I absolutely enjoy this book, can I just start off with.

It did reference the other books and what Shadowhunters word meanings are, so you do know what the words mean, as you are going into the book. It made it almost feel like you don’t need to read the other books before this one. (Please do though) The only thing that you would really have to read the other books for is about the attack on one of their Libraries, where a important document was stolen. As well as getting to know the other Shadowhunters as they pop in and out of the book, with a brief history of what their characters achieved.

What I enjoy about Cassandra Clare’s books is that you can get lost in a completely made up world, that makes you feel that this world could actually be possible. It’s why I think her books are so popular, it is fantasy, but ever so close to the real modern world. It’s kind of like Harry Potter and how we, as muggles, cannot actually see the world of Magic, but it’s always there.

Negative:

I always have a hard time picking on the things in a book that I’ve really enjoyed reading. There was one thing that I didn’t really understand and felt like it didn’t really need to be in it. It was right at the end “A Long Conversation”. As I mentioned above, there good be a reason why it was at the end of this particular book, but I felt like it didn’t really need to be there.

It also did bug me a little how I had always assumed that parabatai were supposed to know how the other was feeling at all times. That’s kind of the point of having a parabatai. Somehow though, and when it seems to suit, they completely have no idea how the other feels.

GoT conspiracy theories!

I love a good conspiracy theory and with the popularity of Games of Thrones, there have definitely been quite a few going around! I think that I have loved every single one of them. One of the most recent ones I have read and am interested to find out what you all think about, is the Wall of the Nights Watch, it’s also a theory I’ve heard little about.

Games of Thrones: how the Wall was built, and it could be destroyed. Telegraph article online (journalist: Rebecca Hawkes)

I mean that wall is 700 feet tall and apparently over 300 miles long. Something like that doesn’t happen, without at least a little magic?!

It’s funny because I started to write this BEFORE I saw the last episode and know we now how they take down a wall like that…But let’s be honest…If they hadn’t of done it that way, how else would they have been able to do it? I was honestly hoping for more…It seemed too easy! Although I have seen some people say that it didn’t really happen and it was Bran seeing the possible future?!

I love a good conspiracy theory!

Have you got any? I would LOVE to hear them!

Blog Block! Part 3 million, gazillion!

Basically nearly every single Sunday evening, I actually sit down to write a post for my “Magical Monday” posting. However, I have just come up with nothing. I haven’t really been reading anything lately and I haven’t seen any films. I’ve been sick the last few weeks, so I’ve been trying to concentrate on getting better.

I seem to be having a lot of these problems over the last few months. Take this past post for example. Blog Block 2.

Apart from being sick and just not really feeling very motivated of something magical tow rite about. There was some good magical miracle type news that progressed over this last week. Mainly to do with the live safari that I watch. There is one pride called the “Nkuhuma Pride” that I have probably mentioned a few times over my Blog.

They have all together 8 cub between the 5 lionesses. Two mothers have at least 4 cubs between them, only a couple of weeks apart. So we were completely at a lost when one of the older and one of the younger cubs went off to get a drink and just never seemed to returned. We didn’t count them out though! Lions are amazing trackers and stalkers, with a great sense of smell. When they disappeared, they had full bellies.

Nearly 3 days later… We had a miracle and I do say Miracle because the African bush is no easy thing to manage, especially when you are so tiny and little! Looking a little worse for wear, but very happy!

Welcome Back Harry Potter and so long

In case you hadn’t noticed here is another reminder that over the weekend the new J.K. Rowling book came out, at the same time though, more than likely ending the Harry Potter series.

Harry Potter: JK Rowling bids farewell to boy wizard at Cursed Child gala (ABC News)

This isn’t to say that JK Rowling is saying that she will never write again, she’s just saying that she’s thinks the whole Harry Potter story-line has now ended.

Did you go out this weekend and snag yourself a copy? Did you dress up? Did you get a hard copy or an electronic (Kindle) copy? We all want to know!

Libraries are Magic!

Libraries are still a magic places to visit, especially for the children. My grandmother was a Library Manager and I used to spend a lot of time at her Library and I guess it’s what has inspired me the most. It just feels like such a shame that more Libraries just don’t have the funding to make their Libraries looks like these.

Good News

There is SO much bad news out there and even when something sweet is said, it is suddenly turned into something really nasty and people just seem to focus on the bad. Taking away anything meaningful from the situation. I have felt hopelessly, trying to be positive, to the point I left Facebook for a good week and it was only because those who cared were positive I was being cyber-bullied, that I came back.

However, just over the weekend and just a couple of weeks ago, I had a little hope. I was just reading a news article, as one does, and I had noticed that the “topic” that all of these articles were under was called “Good News” Good News – 9News

I feel like though this was made into a section because of famed Noni Hazelhurst, recent Hall of Fame Logie winners speech.

“I don’t want people to think I want everyone to be lovely and sweet, I don’t want that, that’s just stupid. What I want is to try and redress the imbalance, to actually have something that acts as an anecdote to this unremitting negativity because I really think people are suffering and it’s dividing us,”

I am thinking that I might, even myself, start a section that is ONLY ever about good news…

What do you all think?

Music Appreciation

As I mentioned before in one of my recent posts “Blog Block” I have this thing for music when it comes to mood. Music, for me, is almost like a mood ring…You can tell how I’m feeling by the music I listen too.

“Jared Leto – Some people believe in God, I believe in music. Some people pray, I turn up the radio”.

So I thought that I would make up a list of the general songs I listen to, depending on my mood, please feel free to share this list or tag other people in the list.

  1. Creative Block: Anything Celtic sounding
  2. Angry: Anything by AC/DC…Anything metal or rock
  3. Happy: (This may be a cliche) “Happy” by Pharell Williams
  4. Getting ready for fun/party/dancing: “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson
  5. General Happiness: Anything by Delta Goodrem
  6. Sadness: Wendy Matthews
