This or That? #39

This or That #39

Oh my Goodness! I completely love this weeks, this or that!

Would you rather…

Spend 24 hours in a fictional world

OR

Spend 24 hours with a fictional character

I have dreamt of both to these situation, it would be too embarrassing to admit, being an “adult”, how many times I have dreamt of both of these situations happening…Many…many…MANY times!

SO WHICH ONE DO I CHOOSE?!

I am going to have to go with spending 24 hours with a fictional character. The only problem I would have is, who do I spend the 24 hours with when it comes to my lifelong fictional crushes.

Legolas, Thorin, Judah Bow?! Who! Who do I chose?!

I’d probably have to go with Thorin…It might come as shock to some as I have been in love with Orlando Bloom since LotR, but he never was my favourite character in the movies. My favourite character in the movie was actually Pippen aka Billy Boyd. Whereas Thorin was my favourite character and to be honest I actually Legolas better in The Hobbit rather than the Lord of the Ring. I’d probably end up not being able to say anything to Thorin, but I don’t mind mooning over him, with a little exploring, lol

The Book Love Tag – Book love

Continuing with my “theme” for the week what better way to celebrate love than with our love of books!

So I found this on the wonderful “The Wild Readers” Blog (give them a view!)

My Favourite Book Couple

This one took me a while because I’ve read a lot of books that have has some kind of romance through the book. The one that popped into my head straight away was Tessa Gray and William ‘Will’ Herondale from “The Infernal Devices” series. I LOVED them as couple and I hated how they finished the series off. I’m not going to say what happens at the end, but I was so mad at the end. Read the series but prepare to be annoyed and angry at the end. I have not watched the movies for the series though.

My top 3 book boy/girlfriends

  • Prince Caspian and Susan from the Narnia Series (Both the book and movies).
  • Abigail Kirk and Judah Bow from Playing Beatie Bow . Judah Bow was my first book crush.
  • Elizabeth Wakefield and Todd Wilkins from the Sweet Valley High series. They were the first book couple romance that I wanted to have.

Imagine your favourite book couple. Who would propose and who? (If there’s already been a proposal: who would be more into organising the wedding?)

Well that would be with Abigail Kirk and Judah Bow, although I do think Dovey is a much better option for Judah and she does end up with him. It’s a bit of a complicated story, it’s all about going back in time and time travelling. I think that Abigail would be completely into the planning and although Judah wouldn’t be as involved I can see him finding it funny how much Abigail gets all worked up.

Unpopular opinions time! Name a popular pairing you can’t stand.

This isn’t even an issue for me and may shock a lot of people. I can’t stand either of the romances in the Twilight AND The Hunger Games, in fact, I completely forgot what the Hunger Games were called for a minute there. They are just to whiny and go back and forth when it seems to suit them. Twilight almost seems to teach girls that if you go through a breakup, give up on life…What kind of message is that?!

What’s your favourite and least favourite romance trope?

Favourite: Definitely the “Will they or Won’t They?” Even though you know they will, it’s just a matter of good writing about how they get there.

Least Favourite: I don’t know what it’s called but I HATE it when a main lead is going back and forth between two other people and I honestly don’t believe that they even like one of the people. How can they possibly when they’re jumping back and forth between the two?

Do you ship non-canon couples often? Name some if you do.

To me it’s kind of like the love triangle predicament, they can work, but they can also really damage a book if you start going down that path. The only couple that I’ve really wanted to see together was Legolas and Arwen from the Lord of the Rings. Even saying that though, I really like Arwen and Aargorn together, I guess it’s more of a curiosity thing.

Your opinion on love triangles. Go!

They can work, but they also can be horrible and annoying. As I’ve mentioned previously I’ve hated series because I cannot stand the main character jumping back and forth between two different people. That to me isn’t love at all.

Favourite and least favourite love triangle?

Sometimes romance just isn’t the way to go. Favourite friendship?

Has to be Sam and Frodo without a doubt. I’m not sure that you can get a more perfect friendship than those two. They’re not even friends really, they are more like family. It was pure love and pure friendship.

What’s your favourite scene with your bookish OTP?

Imagine your favourite book couple again. Who’s most excited about Valentines Day (either ironically or genuinely)?

Btw, here are the questions for easy copy-pasting:

1. Your favorite book couple.
2. Your top 3 book boy/girlfriends.
3. Imagine your favorite book couple. Who would propose, and how? (If there’s already been a proposal: who would be more into organizing the wedding?)
4. Unpopular opinions time! Name a popular pairing you can’t stand.
5. What’s your favorite and least favorite romance trope?
6. Do you ship non-canon couples often? Name some if you do.
7. Your opinion on love triangles. Go!
8. Favorite and least favorite love triangle?
9. Sometimes romance just isn’t the way to go. Favorite friendship?
10. What’s your favorite scene with your bookish OTP?
11. Imagine your favorite book couple again. Who’s most excited about Valentine’s Day (either ironically or genuinely)?

Art is found from within

I was really struggling to find something this week for my “Magical Monday” posting. I always love to make a post on Magical Monday, mainly because I do hope that it cheers people up on Monday mornings.

So after liking 10 pictures on this particular page, I decided to share this page with you all as well! It’s a Facebook page called “Middle Earth’s Art” The drawings on there are amazing! They are beautiful and well drawn. They like to post a picture with an appropriate quote. If I could like every single picture on this page without making everyone on my friends list driven crazy, I probably would like every single one when they are posted.

I believe that these are drawings that JRR Tolkien would proud of himself. If you are stuck on a drawing or are having writers block on a fantasy script, I would strongly recommend looking at these pictures and prepare to be inspired!

(They also have a Twitter…It’s the same pictures being posted on Facebook, but on Twitter…https://www.facebook.com/MiddleArtPage?fref=nf )

Fourth Wall to Lord of the Rings…

You get to spend a day inside your favorite movie. Tell us which one it is — and what happens to you while you’re there.

WordPress – Daily Post – Fourth Wall (http://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_prompt/fourth-wall/)

This isn’t even a hard thought for me! I would jump into “The Lord of the Rings” or “The Hobbit” films without question.

During that time I would make sure that I had introduced myself to either Legolas or Thorin Oakenshield and had them teach me how to use some of the weaponry. I would hope too visit Rivendell and fly on a Eagle. In all honesty I’m not sure that I would even have all the time I would want, too spend there…But it’s such a lovely dream of mine.

Legolas aka Orlando Bloom!

This week is my ‘birthday week’ so I am posting whatever I want =D This man though I have been in love with him from before I even saw him! This is probably the first time I have ever admitted this publicly other than to a few close female friends. One night I had my first ‘lucid’ dream of a man with beautiful long white hair and even now I still remember everything that happened and all of the details. A few months later I go to see another movie with a girlfriend and I walk past this huge cardboard cut out of my dream man! A dream that I had previously told my friends about. It was one of the most freakiest moments of my life!

I admit though when I heard he was going to be in “The Hobbit” I was sceptical, BUT, I really liked how they have fitted him in. Any-ways some facts about Legolas. Although the character does not feature in the novels, Thranduil does feature. So this is how it was justified to use, he more than likely would have been there.

Leoglas is an elvish  fictional character in J.R.R. Tolkien’s  literature. He is a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm. Legolas is also one of the main members of nine in the Fellowship of the Ring. Legolas is the son of Thranduil, King of the Woodland Realm of Northern Mirkwood, there is no mention of Legolas’s mother or if he had any siblings. He was first introduced as a messenger to Elrond of Rivendell to let them know that Gollum has escaped from their holdings.

As part of the Fellowship of the Ring, Legolas is armed with a bow and arrows and one “long white knife” which hangs by his side. Legolas can see and hear from great distances as well. Another quality is he can walk lightly over tonnes of snow. He also has a killer smile (in the movies)

Thorin Oakenshield

Well since I am seeing “The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug” for the second time in Gold Class (cannot wait!) I thought it might be appropriate to talk about one of my favourite characters. I have read both the book and the, as mentioned before, this will be my second time seeing the second film…No Spoilers!lol

Thorin Oakenshield is a fictional character from J.R.R Tolkiens book “The Hobbit”. It was first released in 1937 and is the ‘prequel’ to the “Lord of the Rings” books. Thorin is one of the leading characters in “The Hobbit” and is the leader of a company of Dwarves who are planning to take back their home, the Lonely Mountain, from the Dragon Smaug. Thorins name “Oakenshield” was given to him after fighting against orcs in the Battle of Azanulbizar, with a length of oak shielding him.

Thorin is probably what you call a “Tragic Hero”. He loses a lot of immediate family and he is determined in all of his causes and is a strong and true fighter. Though no matter what successes he has, they always seem to come undone and these situations make Thorin withdrawn and seemingly cut off with only one thing on his mind. Reclaim his home and throne!

On a personal note, I always very surprised that I developed a ‘crush’ on Thorin. I normally go for the goofy character and Thorin just seems so grumpy. I think though Thorin came into my life when I was cut off from the world and was also resisting letting anyone in. Yet at the same time I became almost over protective of those who had been hurt. There was one YouTube video that I discovered when I was in a bad way that I instantly related to in terms of Thorin representing how I was feeling and the video was pretty much showing what was going on in my mind at the time. With Thorins determination and will to fight the Pale Orc, the pale orc is about 3-4 times bigger than Thorin…kind of like my ex,lol…I am also extremely stubborn, lol.
