Some facts about the mighty Kings and Queen of the Savannah…NOT the Jungle!

  • Lionesses are usually the main hunters for the Pride. However, Males will join in too.
  • The Tiger is generally bigger than the African Lion. The Asiatic Lion is smaller than the African Lion.
  • Asiatic Lions are normally found in more colder climates.
  • Asiatic Lions are Asian Lions.
  • Lions are the biggest sleepers out of all the big cats. They can sleep up too 16-20 hours per day!
  • A group of male lions are called a coalition. A group of female lions and family of lions are called a “Pride”.

A hundred years ago over 200,000 lions roamed Africa and Asia. Today, that number is about 20,000. That’s a 90% reduction in the population. With only around 20,000 in the wild, they’re now officially classified as ‘vulnerable’.

Legacy

I have a sad tail to tell…

http://blog.londolozi.com/2018/06/07/iconic-lioness-dies/

The tale (I’ll use the proper word now ~.^) of the second tailless Lioness is one full of adventure, heartbreak and above all survival! Yes, that’s right…I did write the ‘second tailless Lioness. The tailless Lioness of which I am writing about today is the younger of the Tsalala tailless Lioness’s. The younger is daughter to the older.

The story of how these two Lioness’s lose their tail, are not the only similarities between the two.

The both lost their tails through attacks by Hyena, they both managed to take cubs away from the dangers of intruding male coalitions. Helping most of them survive all the way to adulthood. They come to rest in the same place. James Tyrell has been able to write her story much more beautifully than I can.

What a Legacy!

World Lion Day

Lions have always been my favourite wild type animals, ever since I watched the “Lion King”. I just loved the idea of having a Pride and having a strong father type like Mufasa. I am SO excited for the “live action” film, no one can play Mufasa like James Earl Jones can!

Last year I actually bought this bracelet and it’s one of my favourite bracelets, the colour is just so gorgeous! Please look up the “Original Sahara Bracelets”. They give a percentage of the sales to conservation work, I don’t believe that it’s specifically for Lions, it’s just towards the African Wildlife Foundation in general.

I LOVE the blue colouring in this bracelet.

I actually have another bracelets like this but the other one I found in a cheap type store and it also has a Buddha face on it. I might edit this post later, if I think if it’s appropriate.

In just two days from now as well it will be World Elephant Day (please press the link to pledge) I will be writing about that too this weekend. I love Elephants, they are so utterly gorgeous and I’ve never really seen an “evil” elephant. I’ve seen a lot of angry ones, but that’s usually because us Humans have done something.

I feel like I have been fortunate to be able to watch this live Ustream/YouTube feed that I am obsessed with called Safari Live” I have learnt even MORE from this wonderful program about all sorts of wonderful animals from Africa. Prey and Predator.

Baby explosion!

So another quick #safarilive update and it is a really happy one…There has been an explosion of baby animals, mainly in the predator area.

We’ll start with the Queen of Djuma herself, Karula.

KarulaCharlotteKarulaCubTreeIntroducing to you Princess Charlotte (pic with her mum) and Prince George. Karula is probably one of the best mothers that there are out there. She has successfully raised all her litters, except for one and that was not her fault. The death of that particular cub brought in a new rule that no more than three cars can be in at one sighting of baby animals. If they are really new, there are to be NO cars what-so-ever.

NkCub1NkCubs

The next to talk about the Nkuhuma lions! They’ve recently had three, roughly a month or two old, but the even cuter find was yesterday on the sunrise drive! Look at the gif below!

However the most exciting news is about the Styx Pride…Now we haven’t seen the Styx pride on the Safari Live drives. We have seen videos and pictures of the new little bundles. The Styx pride has probably been hit the hardest of all the prides in the area. They lost all of their cubs born last year, including a sub-adult female. Two lionesses…So it’s so good to hear that not only have the Styx have had cubs…They haven’t had just one or two…They have had…8…8 CUBS! 8 cubs how wonderful is that!

The Circle of Life

I thought that I’d start the Monday morning with something actually cheerful…Well I think it is anyways, I hope that you will too.

As my long time readers probably know I watch a little Ustream live feed called “Safari Live”…I have been watching it for probably about twoish years now and I watch whenever I can.

Take a quick read of one of my past posts (Live Safari Update: Sept 21 2015). I can now say that the “BBoys” are the now well established coalition that watches over the Styx and Nkuhuma prides. Just for a quick run down, the BBoys took over the Matimba males just at the end of last year. Five to Two, even with the experience of the Matimba males, they were just too outnumbered. A lot of death and mayhem.

One of the things the regualrly followers have said about the Bboys is that they had better give us some cute cubs! … Now it looks like it’s happened for both the Styx and the Nkuhuma prides! Yes, us regular viewers can be quiet the fickle bunch, but the wild is harsh. Any sign of new life is celebrated.

The below video is of the new Nkuhuma lion cubs:

This other video is of the Styx lion cubs:

Aren’t they just precious?!

This week Cee’s Photography is taking a week off this week (and rightly deserved too…Head to her page and see the amazing weekly challenges she shares with us all) Cee’s Photography … But what do I do now?! I know I can give you all a Safari Live Update! It’s been nearly two months since I last gave you all one…Live Safari Update (21/09/15)

The first is the situation with the Birmingham Boys has calmed quiet a lot down. In fact there is the possibility that one of the prides of females from the Styx pride has given birth recently. Now I suspect that the fathers may actually be the Matimba Males…Lionesses however are actually quiet clever ladies.  So they have been “fake mating” with the Birmingham Boys. This where a lady cat (a lot of the big cats do it) will fake mate with a Male so that the reigning Males will believe that the little cubs are actually theirs.

The other thing to note that the two Matimba males have not gotten themselves into any death matches with the BBoys, they have however, taken off and have a whole new area that they patrol.

One of the more interesting stories to have come from the Matimba males is that of the sub-adult “Junior of the Nkuhuma Pride” He’s an unusual story in that he has no other brother that he would usually head off on his own with, instead he seems to be hanging around the Nkuhuma pride all the time. This unusual as Junior is now 3 and a half years old, usually by now Junior would have been chased off by his Father and Uncles. We’ve all grown quiet fond of Junior, but this is the African Wild life … Anything can happen! Don’t you just adore his little mane! =D (Although I shouldn’t tease, he couldn’t quite easily take me down!)

The Lioness!

https://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_prompt/new-skin/

I would definitely be a Lioness. I have always loved Lions ever since I saw “The Lion King” but I don’t think I’d want to be a male. The females just seem so powerful but yet at the same time they take care of their Prides. They love their families. I have seen many videos of Lionesses going out of their way to save their cubs from dangerous scenarios. Lions are beautiful, no doubt, but there is just something so powerfully beautiful about the females.

Queens rule the world!

This week in countries that are in the care of Queen Elizabeth the Second are celebrating the Queens birthday, so this week you may find a certain “theme”…Can you guess what it might be?

Since this week will be full of Queen Blogs, I thought that I would write about some Disney Queens. Also since Queen Elizabeth is a nice Queen and not a nasty one, I decided to Blog about some of the nicer Queens of Disney. Which as you can imagine and if you know your Disney, the “nice” Disney Queens that do feature at all, are not well known. Mainly because they either die right at the beginning or somehow the main character is separated from their mother and father at the beginning.

SARABI

One of my personal most favourite Queens in Disney. Mother of Simba and Wife of Mufusa, Sarabi is probably one of the most morally strongest, most dignified and has one of the strongest ‘backs’  in Disney and she does it all while walking on four paws! A dedicated mother, wife and Queen who, when her Kingdom is under threat from the tyranny of Scar, she does not falter! It was finally seeing his Mother getting hurt by Scar that kicked Simba into action!

QUEEN ATHENA

Queen Athena was the wife of King Triton and the mother of Ariel (and her six older sisters). She was the Queen of Atlantica, and beloved by everyone. She was most well-known for her singing talent and her love of music. Unfortunately, she died as a result of a run in with a big pirate ship when Ariel was very young. A statue of her dancing with Triton is a present in his courtyard. Queen Athena mostly physically resembles closely to her daughter, Ariel

THE QUEEN (AND KING) OF ARENDELLE

The Queen of Arendelle is from the new Disney film “Frozen” and is the mother to Elsa and Anna, who tragically died at the beginning of the film. The Queen (and King) of Arendelle spent most of their life and royal duties ‘protecting’ their eldest daughter and heir to the throne, Elsa, from being discovered as having magical powers.

Now the main reason that I am talking about the Queen and King of Arendelle is because of the eerie connections that have been discovered throughout a lot of the Disney films, which are described in the pictures below…It’s quite fascinating!
