Tokenism

Tokenism: “the practice of doing something (such as hiring a person who belongs to a minority group) only to prevent criticism and give the appearance that people are being treated fairly.” -Merriam Webster

This is why it’s important to “sometimes” listen to the opposite side of yours. I’m going to bring up the Rowling letter. If you are over it, please stop reading now…You can come back to it later, it’s a good thought, I promise!

I was just as frustrated as I think a lot of people over the letter. I only know of a couple of people on it anyway. Not one a deep thinker. The ones I do know, I’ve never watched them because of their deep thought either, lol

However, this is when sometimes listening to the other side sometimes comes in handy. There’s a women on Twitter, who I’m not sure where she actually stands with trans people. I try to read her twitter threads, try to figure it out. She made a really good point about the letter though, and I hope that the trans community take some comfort in what I’m about to write.

She called the letter purely Tokenism, where were all these people when Rowling was starting to get the threats made against her. Why did she even have to even get a letter out there in the first place? Which, as much as I hate it, she’s completely correct.

Which then brings me back too “Where’s my letter”?! However, I don’t need a letter. See, when you’ve got people who genuinely care about you, people who are truly on the same side as you, they defend you. You don’t need to ASK anyone to defend you. You don’t NEED to write a letter, you just do it. You just defend the people/communities you care about.

Neither you or I, will ever NEED a letter to say that threats against us is not okay, because we’re right there…We’ve got your backs!

30 Day writing challenge…Day 23

23. A letter to someone, anyone.

Too you,

You are doing it, every time you get up again, you have another day to make it better. And I see you, I see how you’re making it better. We have got each other hands, holding them together, even if it’s only through air. You and I have both got this.

You’re a good person, you deserve good things and you shall have good things! You have someone who want to help you make good things a reality for you! Just keep focusing on the light, keep looking forward.

Sometimes looking back is just a trap.

Letter Writing Day

I’m not even 100% sure that today is an International Day or just national…Somewhere…

However,

I always like to use this day, well the weekend of, this day. Where I write out all my Christmas Cards/Letters and then send them out. This year I bought myself some differently coloured pens, so it’ll make it more fun.

Now…If I could just find the stamps…

Do any of you still write letters?

Letter Writing Week

Apparently Letter Writing Week starts this week…I can honestly say that I cannot remember that last time I wrote an actual hand-written letter…So what a better time to write a letter than this week? So who could we write letters too? Celebrities, Friends, Family, a letter to our partners…A letter with everything that we wish we could say to a certain person?

Get to know me!…Part 2

So last week I started off a getting to know me challenge and as I mentioned I “stole” it from Vrushali who found it on  ChocolatenWaffles’s Blog. (Please go and check them out!) Instead of doing it all in one go, I am instead doing it in 25 part questions and this is Part 2…So let’s start…

  1. What movies could you watch over and over again and still love?  A lot of the musicals I watch over and over again and I still love them. Except for La La Land, I have no interest in seeing that film again. The other movies I can watch over and over again and still do, are all the Lord of the Rings and Hobbits films. They are just the type of movies that take me away and I love it.
  2. Last person you kissed/kissed you? It would have to be my partner, but it depends if you include my dog or not,lol
  3. Were you ever a boy/girl scout?  No, there not really that huge down under. You’re more likely to find people here doing some kind of sport or life saving activities.
  4. Would you ever strip or pose naked in a magazine? It honestly depends on why I’d be posing nude. I have no problem with nudity, but I’m not just going to do it for no reason.
  5. When was the last time you wrote a letter on paper? I think the last time I wrote a letter was to Matt Smith (11th Doctor on Doctor Who) but I never sent it. It was just basically saying how much I appreciated the way he played the Doctor, he made me feel less “weird”.
  6. Can you change the oil on a car? I don’t know, I’ve never tried.
  7. Ever got a speeding ticket? I have no licence
  8. Ever ran out of gas? See above.
  9. Favorite kind of sandwich?  Fritz and sauce, I just love it!
  10. Best thing to eat for breakfast? Oh wow, what isn’t the best thing to eat for breakfast?
  11. What is your usual bedtime?  I usually head to bedat 11 pm, and sleep usually comes to me at 12. Depending on what I’m doing the next day.
  12. Are you lazy? I’m not sure that I’m lazy but I am really bad at procrastinating, once I get going I tend to keep going.
  13. When you were a kid, what did you dress up as for Halloween? We don’t really celebrate Halloween Down Under, but it is getting bigger and people are doing it more often. I think though if we did I probably would have been a Disney Princess and a Fairy or something.
  14. What is your Chinese astrological sign? I am a Rat. Rats are supposed to be quick-witted, resourceful, versatile, kind, smart, and lovely. Which of course, is totally true =P
  15. How many languages can you speak? Just the one unfortunately.
  16. Do you have any magazine subscriptions? No, I do sometimes buy a Cosmo every know and then as well though.
  17. Which are better, LEGOs or Lincoln logs? I don’t know what Lincoln Logs are. So LEGO…
  18. Are you stubborn? Well my Star Sign is Taurus, so the most stubborn of all signs! So I definitely can be, especially if I think the matters, matters.
  19. Which is better Leno or Letterman? I never really watched either program, but if I had to choose I probably would have to have gone with Letterman.
  20. Ever watch soap operas? We watch the UK soaps, but they always irritate us!
  21. Are you afraid of heights? It depends on the height!
  22. Do you sing in the car? I don’t drive.
  23. Do you sing in the shower? Sometimes.
  24. Do you ever dance in the car? I dance and sing together.
  25. Ever used a gun? Fake gun? Yeah. Real gun? Are you kidding?
