My Reading Challenge for 2022
I hope you all got to vote! None of the books I voted for won, and I’m not sure I’ve even heard of half of these. That’s the fun though, isn’t it?
Goodreads 2019 and beyond…
I’ve decided to keep up with the same number of books that I had in 2019. I felt like it was a good amount of books. Enough to keep me going, but if I become disinterested, it didn’t really matter too much. Others have pledged, on average 57 books a month! That’s nearly more than two a day! I’m a fast reader, but unless I’m being paid. That’s not going to happen, lol.
I finally met my Goodreads Reading Challenge!
If you follow my Goodreads page (here) you’ll see that I have been stuck on the same page of the same book for a while now. I’ve lost it…eep! It’s a Library book as well and I renewed it yesterday, but it’s the last time that I can. So I’m going to be looking for it extra hard this week.
This post is just a quick run through of my Goodreads profile for 2018 and what I have done, reading wise for the year. This isn’t a complete accurate overview, there were some books I read as part of Blog Challenges, that I did not always put onto my Goodreads list.

Mid Year Wrap up and beyond…
I’ve been reading a lot of other people’s mid year wrap up and I thought it’d be a fantastic idea for myself to take a look back at this first part of the year, reflect, and then look at what I can do for the rest of the year.
Reading – Reading wise I have been really good in that department. I think that giving myself the challenge of reading a certain amount of books this year. Then putting my goal onto Goodreads, has been able to help me focus. Most of the year so far, I have been able to keep on track. At the moment I’ve currently read 12 out of 24 books, so I am on track still. I originally had it has just 12…a book a month…The reason I changed though was because I just kept reading at the time. It was the beginning of the year, I had all these new books. I was on holidays, so I read a lot. I have actually read more than that, for example, I am not going to put all the books that I’m reading from the Agatha Christie on my Goodreads profile. So I’m actually ahead. I haven’t reread any books so far either, because I’ve had a lot of other things to read.
Anxiety – Anxiety wise I have been really well. I’ve only had one week where I felt like I was falling off, but then I had a good cry and I felt so much better. Than it occurred to me that I have not cried since I ended up in hospital. I’ve been trying to keep it all together, sometimes you just have to let it go. I have been finding things that do work for me and what doesn’t.
What does work:
- No coffee
- No alcohol
- Back up plans ie if the power goes out…Books to read, crafts to do, exercises, series downloaded, food to cook from scratch – computer, usbs etc.
Side Projects – I have been getting together over the last month or so, projects that I have finally decided to do. I’ve got candle making things, polymer clay thing. I’ve also got bought card making materials. I made Christmas Cards last year and everyone loved them, they took me so long to make, but people like them. Whether they were just trying to be nice or not, doesn’t matter…As I have decided to continue with this.
The Rest of the Year:
- I actually have something coming out next week, that I am excited/nervous about. I’ve been getting things ready for it. Some of the things have not turned up, but I’ve decided to go ahead with it anyway. I figure everything else will come together.
- I am hoping to get at least my L’s for driving! I’ve already taken the theory test once and although I failed. I hate tests, I suck at tests. I need to do something before I take the test.
- Reading wise I am not going to change my number of books that I am currently reading on Goodreads. Two books a month is going really well for myself.
- Anxiety wise. I am seeing my Doctor soon and making a mental health plan. Which means that I am going to be seeing a therapist more regularly. I’ve been doing quiet well, but I want someone to talk too about it, without feeling like I’m putting everything on my family and friends and bothering them.
- I AM going to make more of a routine of doing Yoga and Mediation more. I have been slacking off and I have been feeling it!
- I have also decided since my viewership has being going up quite steadily. Right now it’s at 760ish…If I can it up to between 900-1000 by the end of the year…I am going to do a give away at the end of the year, after Christmas. So you can get an extra present!
A Lord of Shadows
I finished this book a while ago. One of the reasons though I am able to write about it a bit later is that I actually bought the book. Which means I have been able to go back and forth reminding myself *if I’ve needed too*
(You can also find me on Goodread here and see what else I’m reading at the moment)
I really enjoy writing and reviewing Cassandra Clare’s book. They are such a joy to read and I love encouraging people to read them…In series order of course! I will also warn, that if you haven’t read it yet, I will probably more than likely be revealing a couple of things. Although if you read the first book “Lady Midnight” you will probably know a couple of these things that I talk about.
I wanted to get this over and done with. Mainly because then I can just write to my hearts content how fabulous this book is!
The main issue that I had with this book is the same issue that I’ve always had, with all the Shadowhunters book. It does annoy me that, even though, the Parabatai are “supposed” to be able to tell how each other is feeling. It always seems to be conveniently misplaced, when it’s…well…convenient.
For those who do not know what a ‘Parabatai’ is. It’s a bond between two people. Can be male and female, male and male, female and female and siblings. When I say “bond” I mean they are SUPPOSED to be able to sense how the other one is feeling. Not reading minds, but they can essentially feel when something is off. Now if I was dating someone to pretend to be in love with them, so my Parabatai couldn’t tell that I was in love with them. That would be a pretty hard thing to “pretend”. Especially when you’ve been so closely bonded with someone for such a long time.
I have always loved Cassandra Clare novels. There really isn’t anything to negative that I can say about the books. I have noticed that “The Dark Artifices” are quiet a bit longer than Cassandra Clares’, previous series’s … And I have been loving it! Finally a well written, book that flows beautifully that takes a while to read! One of the major points that I really loved was that, although the book is long, it was a great read. I feel like that is SO important!
I have picked up so many a large book and I just haven’t been able to get through. Take “The Hobbit” for example. I’ve only ever been able to read about a quarter of the book. I stopped reading it because “The Hobbit” is a book that you need to be able to spend time to read. Whereas “Lord of Shadows” is simple to read. Yet, I couldn’t put it down either.
I already know that I am asking for “The Queen of Air and Darkness” for my Christmas present this year! It’s coming out, just in time for Christmas…You can pre-order it now! (Disclaimer – I am not being paid for this)
My Favourites Wrap-Up
I have decided that I am going to start doing a monthly wrap up, on some of my favourite things from that month. That why I can look back and smile. What a great month to start on than my own birthday month!
Books I have read: (Including books I have not put on my Goodreads list)
- Truly, Madly, Guilty – Liane Moriarty.
- The Distant Hours – Kate Morton
- Lord of Shadows – Cassandra Clare.
Food I’ve made, or am going to make:
- Creamy chicken pesto pasta (without the cream)
*Edit* I fell asleep in the middle of writing this one! – Too possibly be completed a later date.*
