The Originals

I will give Twitter credit for one thing, you get a lot of blog post ideas! Hahahaha … Not in always in a good way mind you!

I am kind of starting to wondering when as adults, we started to get upset about about fictional or made up characters?

I think I have about maybe 10-15 plushies scattered around the house. I used to feel that these made me childish. I felt I wasn’t mature enough because of my plushies. I also a few large figurines. They are mostly of kicking butt fictional women characters. I’ll post them under the post.

The reason behind my post today though is because though, for me, it is getting really annoying and so frustrating to constantly see people complain about fictional characters, and I mean in terms of the where the fictional character actually came from and started as. The two I’m writing about today ae Gomez Addams and April O’Neil.

The reason being that people seem upset that the current and April do not represent the original characters. Except they are completely wrong. April O’Neill was originally a mixed race woman, not the white woman from the cartoons and below is how the original Gomez Addams actually looked.

I get a lot of people would prefer the suave “Gomez”, but this is the original Gomez. For me Luis Guzmán, looks a lot him. I have yet to watch it, but I haven’t heard any complain about him.

It’s getting really tiresome to explain to so called “adults” that one, these are FICTIONAL CHARACTERS and if you don’t like how it’s done, you do it then. Two, if you don’t like it, don’t watch it, you’re not a child. It’s one of the great things about being an adult, you generally don’t have to do anything you don’t want too. There are lot of things you have to do as an adult to survive, work being one one of them. However, you don’t have to watch anything you don’t want too.

Thirdly and maybe the biggest point, a lot of people who do complain about this stuff are often, wrong.

As I was writing this another idiot was talking about how Transformers had never once addressed the issue of pronouns or sexuality. They were going on about how these newest creations were like invaders who destroying their property. Then they were quickly proven wrong. In both how idiotic they sounded and how Transformers has been inclusive in the past.

Liking a cartoon, anime, magna…Whatever, doesn’t make you an expert. Its fictional most importantly, and I admit I love when they can link fictional things together, like how they do it with Dr Who a lot of the time. At the end of the day, it’s just fiction. The most important part of fiction is that it takes you away. Not that it’s 100% accurate every single time.

What I want to ask you, my dear followers. If you have a favourite fictional couple. Can be any couple from any fictional world…Book, Movie, tv series.

I have three that I just adore. I don’t know why, but I loved Frary from the “Reign” tv series. They just en-captured the whole tragic romance for me. I also really like tragic romances, lol.

One of the others is Rogue and Gambit from X-Men. Can I just say that I hated what the movies did to Rogue’s character. Hated it. I guess it’s kind of my “trend” with tragic romances. I can’t actually stand romantic comedies. I’m sorry, but too me, they’s just boring and most of the time, predictable. The closest I get to enjoying an romantic comedy is “Love Actually”.

My last favourite couple (in no particular order though) is Mufasa and Sarabi from “The Lion King” which the box office is saying that it is killing it!

I mean…would you look at these two. I would love to see a movie about their life together, before Simba. Although it’s all “fine” in the Lion King…Right up until Mufasa dies of course…Clearly there were tensions at least between Mufasa and Scar.

Shipping

No, I don’t want to stat building boats, or start sailing…I get all of the motion sicknesses…That would be a VERY bad idea!

Shipping” meaning by Wikipedia:

initially derived from the word relationship, is the desire by fans for two or more people, either real-life people or fictional characters (in film or literature) to be in a relationship, romantic or otherwise. It is considered a general term for fans’ emotional involvement with the ongoing development of a relationship in a work of fiction. Shipping often takes the form of creative works, including fanfiction and fan art, most often published on the internet.

Shipping in the nerd type world, to break it down, is when you have two favourite people who you see as a couple. These can included people from the book, or sometimes you can even cross couple from different fandom and from completely different genres.

Some couple even get their own names, when you combine the two characters names together.

Except for brother and sister…or brother and brother, sister and sister, or parental with child…That’s just gross…Except in a purely familial way.

So, for example, some of my favourite “shipping” characters are:

  • Thorin Oakenshield and Morgana from “Merlin”.
  • Tessa Gray and Will from the Infernal Devices.
  • Mary and Gideon from Reign (I still like Francis, but Gideon seems a little more “grown up”)

Lets Share: Do you “ship” any couples? Even ones we may have not thought of before.

Who are you?

Talking with the girls (as one does) and we were talking about which ex’s do we regret the most. I’m not sure that I actually regret any of my past relationships, however there is one relationship that has an interesting way to view it and I wonder if I am alone in this.

My last relationship I felt like he was lying so much about who he was, that he never knew who I was. To me there is not way that he could possibly have cared about the real me, because if you don’t know who a person is…How can you possibly know what can hurt them? How would you know what they would consider to be a betrayal?

I put it down to this, it was like dating an actor, but dating their amazing fictional character and then realising, disappointingly,  you were dating this whole other real reality. It’s the best way that I can think of to explain my last relationship. I think that’s why I find it so hard to get over what happened…Who did I date? Did I date the man, or the character?Any ways…Don’t matter no more ~.^ hehe

The times they are a-changing

Having a conversation with a good girlfriend tonight and we are shocked…repeat SHOCKED…by the amount of guys that are in relationships and/or married that hit on us. Both my girlfriend and I are single and these “respectable taken” men are not helping the cause. There are a few things that make me really mad about it:

  1. How can you call my ex a douche when you’re doing what you’re doing? He didn’t make promises of marriage or anything close to that.
  2. Most…in fact, pretty much all of them…claim to be bi-sexuals…I’m not sure if they think that they gives them a special permission to hit on other people while married or something?
  3. What makes them think I’d ever go for a married man to begin with? I never have and never would…I am not desperate and there are a lot more guys out there that are not someone’s sloppy seconds.
  4. What makes me angriest the most though…My brother is gay, my cousin is gay…Yet these…Wankers…are able to get married and STILL hit on single people, like myself.
  5. I have not seen ONE of them hit on a guy…Just single girls…But this is who Christians really want representing them?…Really? Both my brother and cousins have been in long term committed relationships and neither one has ever been accused of straying. Yet, they can’t marry and these guys can.
  6. You never hear of their partners being bi-sexual…Amazing, isn’t it.

All these guys are doing is harming myself and my girlfriends and relationships in general. We are single for a reason and these guys are a huge part of that. I can think of maybe one or two couples who don’t seem to do this.

We obsess over characters like Thorin and Thor and Mr Darcy because the truth is, to find a decent guy (I still believe that they are out there still) is getting harder and harder to find. These guys damage the rest of you guys and put single girls like me off.

The Borg!

The Borg! Bet you didn’t see this one coming! Usually I write about love and my favourite characters (not that I hate the Borg or anything…well kind of do…but if you know, you know).

The Borg are a fictional race of characters in the television show and science fiction movie “Star Trek” (the ones with Patrick Stewart). As well as Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Voyager. (See picture below for example):

Borg1

A Borg Drone

The Borg, I find, a quite terrifying alien race. They “assimilate you” and your thoughts and mind all become one with all the other Borg’s in the collective…For a well-known individual like myself, the thought of being a “one collective” is pretty terrifying! I had to admit though in the past (and kind of still present) there was a group that I belonged to that really remind me of the Borg…One thought…The Hive Mind

The Borg manifest as cybernetic-ally   enhanced humanoid drones of multiple species  organised as an interconnected collective, the decisions of which are made by a hive mind, linked by subspace radio. The goal…To achieve perfection…Or rather what the Queen deems “perfection”.

In 2013 the Borg were listed as Number 4 on the TV guides “60 nastiest villains of all time”.

We are the Borg. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.
