Imagination

I read an article over the article this weekend that Captain Kirk is now being seen as bi-sexual, which, honestly I don’t care that much about. But cool for that character. However, William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk said that it’s simply not true.

I get why people would want the actor who “made” that character too agree with them. Here’s the thing though, they’re an actor playing a part. It’s the problem I had with Dumbledore (from HP) Dumbledore became “gay” after a popular fan theory. There was actually no indication that Dumbledore was gay. Then in FB, there was apparently two lines that confirmed he was gay. That was it.

What Rowling did, was what is called “performative ally-ship”. Dumbledore can be gay if you want him to be gay. That’s what’s called imagination. It’s also fine if Dumbledore is not gay. It’s fine if Dumbledore is gay, straight, trans, of colour, religious, atheist. Just don’t make him gay, straight, trans, of colour, religious, atheist, to make a buck.

It’s it also fine that Shatner doesn’t want Capt Kirk to be bi. Capt Kirk can be bi-sexual for you though.

Do you all see where I’m getting at?

If Chris Pine wants to play a more bi-sexual Kirk, that is also fine. I have no idea about Pine’s views on Kirk. But again, Kirk is a fictional character.

Read the words I write

Okay, one more time. People are NOT getting this. Johnny Depp has been found guilty TWICE, in a court of Law, of wife beating. He IS an abuser.

Again, this does not mean, Amber Heard is NOT an abuser. This is isn’t, one cancels the other out. They’re BOTH abusers and they BOTH have been abused.

If you can NOT understand that concept, do NOT talk about it.

This is NOT a case, that will say whether or not Depp is not an abuser. He has already been found GUILTY of being an abuser, TWICE. We all KNOW that Heard abused as well. If you can’t understand the basics of mutual abuse. This is NOT a television show, where you get to determine anything. Everything has already been determined.

Also, Johnny Depp is not going to sleep with you.

This is the last time I am writing about this.

This is not a television episode of Law and Order, this is real life folks. For the love of God, please think about this from a point of view that doesn’t involve you having sex with Johnny Depp. Think about how Vanessa Paradis, the mother of his children was thinking when his text came out as calling her an “extortionist French cunt”, or heck, think about his kids!. He must have known that was coming out. Think about how you would feel if someone you loved, had texted about setting you alight, and burning you alive. Jesus, think about that poor dog, as he shoved it’s head out the window!

This isn’t “hearsay” this is WHY he WAS found guilty, twice, of being a wife beater.

I actually do fear for JD’s life. I think he’s going to go the way of Michael Jackson, Prince, Brittany Murphy. Dying, way before they should have, dying because no one would tell them no.

As it was said in court. Depp was the one turning (or not in some cases) up to work drunk, high, not prepared and not professional, choosing to sue people over fulfilling his contracts. That has nothing to do with Heard, she’s not his keeper. Quiet frankly, she was right in what she said. That she stood up for abuse survivors and she was abused again, by the culture. She was absolutely right. Quiet frankly, there’s a lot of people proving her right.

It’s one of the reasons I don’t want to talk/write about this anymore. No matter the outcome, he’s already established as a wife beater. Depp and Heard are pretty toxic, but I do think that Heard, while not coming out of this smelling of roses. She does appear to be only one who is trying to live a life. Reminder, as well, Depp is the one continuing this. He is STILL trying to control the narrative, and lot of people are letting him.

Thursday Theories – Are Dragons real?

Since Dragon Appreciation Day is on the weekend, what a better time to have a little post about Dragons.

You want to know the best thing about Dragons?

They are real!

May I introduce you too…the Komodo Dragon!

The saddest thing?

Last year Komodo Dragons and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), a global authority that this weekend released its latest Red List of threatened species. The list, which included the evaluation of more than 138,000 species, shifted the status of the Komodo dragon from vulnerable to endangered.

Rising sea levels caused by hotter temperatures melting ice and expanding oceans will reduce the dragon’s habitat on Komodo and neighbouring remote islands by at least 30 per cent in the next 45 years, the IUCN said at its World Conservation Congress gathering in the French city of Marseille.

Although Appreciate a Dragon Day is about Dragons in literature, we can appreciate a real life Dragon…RIGHT NOW…By helping fight climate change. Are you up for not slaying the Dragon this time, but to rescue it?

Hobbit Day

September the 22nd is Hobbit Day.

Why?

It being the birthday of the hobbits Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, two fictional characters in J. R. R. Tolkien’s popular set of books. According to the fictional setting, Bilbo was born in the year of 2890 and Frodo in the year of 2968 in the Third Age (1290 and 1368 respectively in Shire-Reckoning.)

I’m posting because that way it’s still technically the 22nd of September where I live. So celebrate by playing with a Dragon or two, and HAVE that second breakfast!

Did you know? Due to the discrepancies between the fictional Shire calendar and the Gregorian calendar there is some debate about when to celebrate Hobbit Day, since the actual birthday would be between September 12 and 14 in the Gregorian calendar, as explained in the appendices of The Lord of the Rings.

Personally, I think when we talk about fiction, you need to stick with the fiction world’s calendar. It is always nice when the real world and the fiction world can work together. However, sometimes it is even nicer, to not have the real world collide with the fiction world. Keep the real world and the fiction world separated.

Frary…Magical Monday #5

What I want to ask you, my dear followers. If you have a favourite fictional couple. Can be any couple from any fictional world…Book, Movie, tv series.

I have three that I just adore. I don’t know why, but I loved Frary from the “Reign” tv series. They just en-captured the whole tragic romance for me. I also really like tragic romances, lol.

One of the others is Rogue and Gambit from X-Men. Can I just say that I hated what the movies did to Rogue’s character. Hated it. I guess it’s kind of my “trend” with tragic romances. I can’t actually stand romantic comedies. I’m sorry, but too me, they’s just boring and most of the time, predictable. The closest I get to enjoying an romantic comedy is “Love Actually”.

My last favourite couple (in no particular order though) is Mufasa and Sarabi from “The Lion King” which the box office is saying that it is killing it!

I mean…would you look at these two. I would love to see a movie about their life together, before Simba. Although it’s all “fine” in the Lion King…Right up until Mufasa dies of course…Clearly there were tensions at least between Mufasa and Scar.

Run away with me…

I have decided to spend a few days off of social media. Sometimes it’s just something you gotta do, and there is nothing wrong with that. Something I really love to do when I take “time off” from social media. I love to read! I love to escape…again, lol

What do you love to love when you love to escape? Are there books you love to read and read again, binge out on movies or tv shows?

Neverending Story Wink GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

There are two games that I just love to play: The Sims 4 and Guild Wars 2. I can get lost in these two gems for literally hours without even meaning too. When I first had my anxiety issues, it was the only thing that could distract my brain for hours. Because it was usually fast pace moving and I was actually interested. I would play for hours.

The other escape I have is of course music and books. I know that on Goodreads a lot of my reviews are pretty highly reviewed. I have no problem with that though. I only read these days what I want to read, rather than what I can review and make myself seem “popular”. I have to admit there are some people on Goodreads who I think purposely give books only bad reviews to make themselves seems “serious”. But it also seems to work, I’ve noticed that negative reviews get a lot more likes?

Probably my final form of escape is Comedy. Sometimes when you can get on a comedy binge, it’s just the best thing ever. It also feels like a workout. At the moment, I highly recommend Wanda Sykes “What’s going on right now, is not normal” I think you can only find it on Netflix? But watch it!

Which tastes better: black or green olives?

Honestly…I don’t really like any kind of olive.

What’s your favorite room in your home?

It has to be between my bedroom and the lounge room. The reasoning behind that is sometimes if I’m in bedroom for too long. I start to feel cut off from everyone and that can feel a little confining. Being in the lounge can feel more opening, especially since the couches/lounge that we have is just so darn comfortable!lol

What fictional family would you be a member of?

I would love to be a member of the Undómiel. Which, for those who do not know. Is a Middle Earth family and consists of Arwen and Elrond and Galadriel.

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

This week I can definitely say my family. I got to spend a lot of the week with them before they all left to their various places. I love being with them, honestly if I could live with them all the time…I would!lol

Tell us about your first bicycle or car?

My first bicycle was too big for me! I couldn’t actually even use it in the end. My feet didn’t even touch the ground! I did end up getting a bike a couple of years later that I could actually use. I swear I was just thinking about this the other day. There was this one time our Dad made my brother and I cycle for the longest time. He was going through a health kick himself.

What fictional world or place would you like to visit?

Without question, I think I have said this a gazillion times. I would LOVE, not just like, Tolkiens world to visit. Either the book world or the movie. I love both of the worlds (even Tauriel included). It’s one of the reasons I want to learn to draw, I am very visual person. I could totally imagine myself being in that world, I literally have dreams about being there.

If you could have someone follow you around all the time, like a personal assistant, what would you have them do?

In all honesty, they would probably be driving around a lot. Picking things up, getting me food. I would totally love that! There would be a lot of driving involved.

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

Just a lot this week! It’s been a great week! Too many to list!

Thomas Jefferson Day … Yay or Nay?

What a complicated this one is! Well not really, but I’d love to have been look into his mind.

Thomas Jefferson was one of the original founders of the Declaration of Independence. He was also a complicated man in that he “seemed” to be for Independence, one moment he wanted to include the Native American as “free”…But kept African Americans as slaves…Then had children with his slaves. He was a “strong” disciple of the Greek and Rome teachings and went forward with a school “University of Virginia” that was ‘free’ of Church teachings and generally shunned Christian (and was shunned by) teachings.

“All men are created equal”

While this is a true quote of Jefferson’s, he didn’t exactly always “live” by it. When he got older he also wrote how and his belief that blacks and whites could not live together as free people in one society because of justified resentments of the enslaved. I think of today and it’s still pretty much true really.

It’s what I mean by “complicated” One moment he didn’t mind having slaves himself, but at the same time recognised the problems with it. He also seemed to be against international slave trading, but not so much domestically.

In 1807, Congress passed the Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves, which Jefferson signed. The act established severe punishment against the international slave trade, although it did not address the issue domestically.

His own slaves were sold at a public auction when he died. Over his life he “obtained” over 600 slaves. Jefferson was known as well as a “benevolent” slave owner, meaning that he gave them good food, cabins etc…But he still had them.

The Greek Gods of Olympus Book Tag

(Re-edit/Rehsare: When I first initially shared this I had not completed it because I had come down with an anxiety attack and I’ve never had one before. So I’ve been trying to recover from that. Which meant looking at a computer screen was screwing me up a little bit. So I have now been able to recover a bit and have now been able to finish this off …

Let’s make this fun!)

Well we all know how much I just love Ancient Cultures so I would really love to thank  Victorious Pages – (Greek Gods of Olympus Book Tag link) You also might find that a lot of my answers are either LotR or The Hobbit related, lol

QUESTIONS:

Zeus: Name your favourite fictional leader, good or bad?

I have had real trouble with this one because I have just have so many favourite fictional leaders. However, I’ve decided to go with Aslan the “great Lion” from the Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe C.S. Lewis series. I went with Aslan because he is similar to Zeus, kind of, he’s a lot more kinder than Zeus though. Actually Aslan is kind of a better leader then Zeus really.

Hera: Who are your favourite fictional parents?

I actually have had real trouble trying to find think of some parents. Mainly because a lot of the books I’ve read, the parents usually are at the cause root of the main characters problems. I don’t want to go with the Weasleys again.

Demeter: What fictional food would you like to try?

I love the idea of Peter Pan food, mainly because you can just imagine anything that you want…I would have seafood and lasagna…all the time!

Poseidon: Name a book where water is central, either in setting or plot.

This is an interesting question, because I had to go and research this one. I just could not remember a story where Water is central. There is a story I read in High School where water is apart of the story, but not much “central” so I hope it counts. It also involved the God Poseidon himself, “The Odyssey”. The Odyssey takes place AFTER the sacking of Troy and the death of Achilles. Odysseus foolishly proclaims that he solved the problem to their War, when it was in fact Poseidon who had come up with the solution to make the horse. To punish Odysseus’s, Poseidon veers Odysseus boat off so far that he ends up not returning to Ithaca, his home, for over ten years. That only happened because Athena stepped in. I guess this story has a lot of “Water” theme’s too it when I write about it and rethink it. It’s a good story when it comes to talking about all the sea creatures as well. For example Calypso, the Sirens. So yeah, I guess I have a read a book with a lot of Water in it.

Dionysus: Which character would you most like to have a party with?

Even though he’s pretty weird and probably VERY dangerous, I would love to see a party that has Magnus Bane in it. All mysterious and cool.

Apollo: Either, name a great debut book (so an author’s first published work). or Name a first book in a series you really enjoyed.

I really enjoyed Cassandra Clare’s “Clockwork Angel” from the “Infernal Devices”. Once I had read the first one I just had to go out and get the rest, I think I read them all within a couple of months of each other. I am actually now onto her “The Dark Artifices” series and hoping for the same results!

Artemis: ‘Of all the Greek goddesses, she was the most self-sufficient, living life on her own terms, comfortable both in solitude and in holding the reins of leadership.’* Who is your favourite female heroine?

I honestly really struggled with this one. I have liked a lot of the female heroines I’ve read in my books, but I have yet to really “love” one. The closest that I can come to really loving is Arwen from Lord of the Rings. I guess she’s a Heroine in that she inspired Aragorn (Arwen was supposed to fight beside Aragorn at Helms Deep instead of Haldir) put the sword back together and gets Frodo out of danger (in the movie, Arwen doesn’t do this in the book). I also love how gracefully she is written in the actual books, written by J.R.R Tolkien.

Athena: Name a character who is wise.

Although I couldn’t actually stand the character, she is the only character that does live on instead of getting her head cut off like all the other Queens after her. I am writing about Queen Katherine of Aragon, first Queen of Henry the 8th from Phillipa Gregorys books/series. I think it’s only a wise woman who could escape his clutches!

Hermes: If you could travel to any fictional setting (real world or fantasy) where would you go?

This probably wouldn’t shock anyone, I would love, like absolutely love, to visit Rivendell or just the world of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings in general.  I day dream about being there a lot, if it was real. What I’d do, where would I go? I would probably never want to come back!

Hephaestus: If you could have any fictional tool made (for example a weapon or a gadget), what would you want?

I don’t know if this counts, but I always thought Aslan from the “Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” and his “magical tools” were always handy. It might also be because I just love that he is a Lion who talks.

Ares: What is your favourite fictional battle?

I would have to say the fight in the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe against the White Witch. Just something about animals fighting side by side with us, instead of us killing them really appeals to me.

Aphrodite: What is your ultimate ship (the characters do not have to be from the same book)?

Oh, that would have to be Will and Tessa from “The Shadow-hunters”. They just seem so perfect for each other, but I hate what happened to them, and the “twist” in the end. Just never felt right too me.

Hades: If you could petition Hades to bring any fictional character back from the dead who would you choose?

I would, without a doubt bring back Thorin Oakenshield. I felt like his death was just so unfair! He did all of that fighting and fought his inner Demons, just to die? Although in a way, I don’t dislike Tolkien or the writing for killing Thorin off. I almost feel like it was actually the right thing to do, things probably would have been very different if he had survived. It just feels a little unfair that he never really got to be “King” again.

Final question(s): If you could be a God/ Goddess of anything what would you want to be and what do you think would fit your personality? These do not have to be the same.

I have always admire Athena. Apart from seemingly seeming to hate women, I have always admire what she stood/stands for.

She is the Goddess of Wisdom, Courage, law and justice, arts and crafts, as well as strategic warfare. Unlike her counterpart Ares, who is the God of War, rather than strategy. Just all the things in life I enjoy and I feel that represent who I am, is why I can relate too her and feel she best represents my personality. She was represented as a fierce warrior, in ancient times, when even now women are still seen as the “weaker” sex by a few.

Athena
