The Originals

I will give Twitter credit for one thing, you get a lot of blog post ideas! Hahahaha … Not in always in a good way mind you!

I am kind of starting to wondering when as adults, we started to get upset about about fictional or made up characters?

I think I have about maybe 10-15 plushies scattered around the house. I used to feel that these made me childish. I felt I wasn’t mature enough because of my plushies. I also a few large figurines. They are mostly of kicking butt fictional women characters. I’ll post them under the post.

The reason behind my post today though is because though, for me, it is getting really annoying and so frustrating to constantly see people complain about fictional characters, and I mean in terms of the where the fictional character actually came from and started as. The two I’m writing about today ae Gomez Addams and April O’Neil.

The reason being that people seem upset that the current and April do not represent the original characters. Except they are completely wrong. April O’Neill was originally a mixed race woman, not the white woman from the cartoons and below is how the original Gomez Addams actually looked.

I get a lot of people would prefer the suave “Gomez”, but this is the original Gomez. For me Luis Guzmán, looks a lot him. I have yet to watch it, but I haven’t heard any complain about him.

It’s getting really tiresome to explain to so called “adults” that one, these are FICTIONAL CHARACTERS and if you don’t like how it’s done, you do it then. Two, if you don’t like it, don’t watch it, you’re not a child. It’s one of the great things about being an adult, you generally don’t have to do anything you don’t want too. There are lot of things you have to do as an adult to survive, work being one one of them. However, you don’t have to watch anything you don’t want too.

Thirdly and maybe the biggest point, a lot of people who do complain about this stuff are often, wrong.

As I was writing this another idiot was talking about how Transformers had never once addressed the issue of pronouns or sexuality. They were going on about how these newest creations were like invaders who destroying their property. Then they were quickly proven wrong. In both how idiotic they sounded and how Transformers has been inclusive in the past.

Liking a cartoon, anime, magna…Whatever, doesn’t make you an expert. Its fictional most importantly, and I admit I love when they can link fictional things together, like how they do it with Dr Who a lot of the time. At the end of the day, it’s just fiction. The most important part of fiction is that it takes you away. Not that it’s 100% accurate every single time.

Magic?

Something recently happened to me to make me realise, I am VERY different from other people. Someone passed away over the weekend, and all weekend I had to see as people posted a character they played, quotes.

I was all like

I was getting so annoyed, lol

See this ‘person’ not only contributed in the ongoing harm of vulnerable people, they defended it by saying it wasn’t harmful and people are just easily offended. And again, they did not belong to the group of people who were being harmed, and they were harming.

My biggest crushes are Orlando Bloom, and Matt Smith. I find them both incredibly sexy. Sexy in looks and personality, and their acting.

HOWEVER,

If they did what this other actor did and contributed. I would go off them, and when they passed, I would not be posting about their characters. I wouldn’t post about them at all.

This is definitely a personal opinion.

I believe this is what infantilize adults. This is what I believe one of the problems with adults is. I love fiction and a dream world, probably more than anyone else on the planet. I HATE reality, but I love fiction, because it is not like reality. There is enough fiction to be happy.

I am going to use Johnny Depp as an example (also did you see Depp shaved off his beard, ewww, lol).

A little dream time…

Well, I seem to be going with a theme this week, haha

I went and saw “The Eternals” over the week, and I really did enjoy. Within about 10 minutes of coming out, everyone in the “real world” brought me down, oh my god, they just…I’m living too much in the real world, I need my brain to escape. I don’t go on holidays, and can’t really right now. My brain is too tired to stream at the moment. I NEED that come down after a movie.

Otherwise, I just get annoyed and really annoyed…I can’t think of a better word than annoyed.

I need to live in the fantasy world, of the movie I’ve just seen. Especially when I’ve just seen it and I really enjoyed it. There a few movies, I have to watch on my own. If I’m at someone else’s house, clearly, it doesn’t matter.

  • Lord of the Rings, and to a lesser extent The Hobbit
  • Phantom of the Opera (with Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler)
  • Moulin Rouge

So, probably not one of the biggest lists in the world.

So, what’s next?

So, I had honestly forgotten about the bush-fires, until an appeal came up for it. Because people are obviously forgetting about it. There are people who lost houses and businesses, so they’re still affected by it. Since the beginning of the year, we had massive bush-fires, then flooding, and then coronavirus.

So, what do you think might be next?

LotR vs Harry Potter = Magical Monday #4

Oh yeah, I’m going there

Now I could be completely wrong with my assessment of this, it’s just something that I’ve generally noticed…Generally.

I’ve noticed that while people generally like both of them. People seem to like one more over the other. For myself, I prefer LotR over Harry Potter. I like LotR just that little bit more. I find that more people like Harry Potter just that little bit more. I just wonder to myself sometimes, why that is? Every time someone has some magical collection come out. I would say 90% of the time it’s some sort of Harry Potter theme.

Run away with me…

I have decided to spend a few days off of social media. Sometimes it’s just something you gotta do, and there is nothing wrong with that. Something I really love to do when I take “time off” from social media. I love to read! I love to escape…again, lol

What do you love to love when you love to escape? Are there books you love to read and read again, binge out on movies or tv shows?

Neverending Story Wink GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

There are two games that I just love to play: The Sims 4 and Guild Wars 2. I can get lost in these two gems for literally hours without even meaning too. When I first had my anxiety issues, it was the only thing that could distract my brain for hours. Because it was usually fast pace moving and I was actually interested. I would play for hours.

The other escape I have is of course music and books. I know that on Goodreads a lot of my reviews are pretty highly reviewed. I have no problem with that though. I only read these days what I want to read, rather than what I can review and make myself seem “popular”. I have to admit there are some people on Goodreads who I think purposely give books only bad reviews to make themselves seems “serious”. But it also seems to work, I’ve noticed that negative reviews get a lot more likes?

Probably my final form of escape is Comedy. Sometimes when you can get on a comedy binge, it’s just the best thing ever. It also feels like a workout. At the moment, I highly recommend Wanda Sykes “What’s going on right now, is not normal” I think you can only find it on Netflix? But watch it!

Plain & Simple Questions:

What do fish do all day?   What thoughts do you think they have?  (Credit to the awesome Teresa and her Fibbin’ Fridays for this one)

I think that they think about swimming, maybe a little eating…whatever those particular fish eat. Maybe a little fooling around, just a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

What celebrity would you have as a SPOUSE, if you HAD to choose?

If he wasn’t gay and I wasn’t taken. I’m not actually sure if he is? He’s very private…This gentleman below:

What’s the most expensive thing you’ve ever broken?

I don’t know if it was even expensive, but when I was little my Grandparents had a large Michelangelo’s statue. Yes, in all his glory, but that’s not what I saw. I used to go up to him and give him a hug (when I was little) I’d talk to him. One time when I went up to hug him, i hugged him a little too hard and he fell over…he broke. I’m not exactly sure if it was hugely expensive, but it felt, it might have been.

When was the last time you slept more than 9 hours in a stretch?  Why?

Generally the last time I slept more than 9 hours, I was not feeling well. I keep finding that if I sleep for a long time, I get a really sore back. So no more huge sleep ins for me.

Life Lessons from Around the Dinner Table

Thank you so much Life Lessons from Around the Dinner Table. I really enjoyed writing this. It really made me think and I really enjoyed writing up. Please everyone check her out!

My Questions

  •  What do you think are the 5 most beautiful things in the world? Why?
    a) Peace, pure true peace. When you see it on someone else’s face, or even when you see an animal at peace when they are finally free.
    b) When a young baby smiles, and you know it’s genuine smile.
    c) That moment when the sun is rising and it’s just starting to rise on the horizon.
    d) I don’t know why but the smell of my dog makes me happy. When she wakes up with me she has the smell and she’s so cute. I love just waking up with her and that’s what makes her beautiful. Whereas my partners cat uses his claws, on my face to wake me up, not so beautiful, lol
e)When you go for a walk and everything is just beautiful. The setting is perfect, the weather is perfect. Even your ipod is playing the perfect music.
  • What impression do you think you give when you first meet someone?
I am honestly not really sure. I think a lot of that depends on where I am. Hopefully at work I give a first impression that I know what I’m doing. I definitely know that no matter where I go, people always think I’m friendly. I definitely must give an impression of being open though, because people walk up constantly have conversations with me. Especially “older” people.
  • What one responsibility do you most wish you didn’t have?
Vacuuming. I always offer to do it. Mainly because my hair is so long and thick it falls out everywhere! I shed more than my dog and cat’s hair combined! I hate vacuuming though, it hurts my back and the vacuum cleaner and the carpet are really tough to vacuum.
  • What is your favorite subject to write about?
This may sound totally “up myself” but at the moment I like writing about myself. I have spent so many years not talking about myself and it blew up in a panic attack and myself in the hospital. So I like to talk to myself a lot now, lol…However, now I am trying to focus on others in the world. They need more help than I do right now.
  • What would constitute a perfect day for you?
Being able to wake the day with both the kitty and doggie I love the most, without them fighting and the cat putting claws in my face, lol. A nice bowl of granola and yoghurt, reading and playing games. Probably take my doggie for a walk, because a perfect day would have the perfect weather.
  • For what in your life do you feel most grateful?
Just for the people I have in my life…RIGHT NOW…Right at this moment. Anyone whose reached out, anyone who I’ve been able to talk about my issues freely. Anyone whose just let me talk.
  • What fictional place would you most like to visit?
Without any hesitation…Rivendell. I have literal dreams of going there. I watch the films straight through (if possible) twice a year.
  • Who do you admire most? Why?
Don’t tell anyone this. I admire a lot of people! I have to make special mention to my Gran though. She is what she calls “my person”. Not in terms of possession, but rather the person that just gets me the most. She’s always been so strong in every way possible, as she’s getting older she is losing it a little bit, she’s becoming more frightened of everything. It’s hard to watch.
  • Is there a book that had an impact on your life? If so, what was it?
This list would be easier if I could talk about the ones that haven’t impacted my life. I cannot honestly choose, so many are popping into my head.
  • Where is the most interesting place you’ve visited?
It’s actually the difference between two places. A few years ago I was in American in Arizona and then from there I went to England. The difference between the two was immediate and astounding! It was so dry in Arizona, then when I arrived in England it was just SO green!
  • If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?
Honestly I would go to Disneyland. Apart from Egypt and Greece, I’ve wanted to go there my whole life. I feel at the moment, I’d be so happy there. I want to visit Egypt, but it’s so scary there right now. Disneyland would just make me happy. Greece, I can see myself walking around and I don’t really want to do that.Nominate 5-11 bloggers you want to give the award to.*I’m going to nominate some people, but please feel free to do this if you so wish and then just link back to myself*

Book Groups

I love the site Book Riot! It has fantastic articles on it!

Like this one…

Book Groups by great authors

What kind of fantasy book group would you like to participate in?

Professor Gilderoy Lockhart:

Can you imagine a group of students, Hermione, Cho Chang…Talking about the latest Professor Gidlerory Lockharts book. Part fan-girling, part Hermione disputing it all.

SATC (Sex and the City):

I can mainly imagine this as they do in the tv series. In that they mainly getting together once a week with some take away, a glass of wine, gossiping about the latest edition of a favourite magazine. I can also see Charlotte being apart of a different book group that is separate from the girls.

Can you think of any, especially one you would love to be apart of!?

Share Your World…Feb Week 1, 2018

Share Your World

Share Your World, February 5th 2018

What would be your ideal fantasy way to spend Monday?

  • Slow cook…Oh my goodness, I’ve just been introduced to slow cooking…I am in love! You can smell the yummy food all day, it’s fantastic!.
  • Some serious cleaning out.
  • Take my dog for a walk.
  • If I’m at my partners house, I love cleaning up while he’s at work.

What one person that you are out of contact with would you like to say thank you to?

I can’t really think of one person, generally (even ex’s) I will thank for anything good or positive they brought to my life…Who knows when I’d see them again! There’s only one because I cannot remember if I thanked him or not. In year 6 (so about 10-11 years of age) I was bullied pretty much by all my classmates (my friends were in another class and I was not allowed to swap for some reason). There was one classmate who actually made me laugh, but of course if I tried to be friends with him, “I must love him”. I don’t think he realised how much he got me through.

List your favorite toys or games as a kid?

  • Hide and Seek – I was the BEST at this! I played with my cousins and brother and I was the lightest so I could hide up in the highest tree and hide in the tiniest spaces.
  • I loved my Barbies! They had a whole story going on there. There was one who could only eat junk food or she’d die! There was another who was psychic and she was also the group back manager. All my non-barbies “dolls” were the Barbies parents (I remember having an Strawberry Cupcake Doll) . Good times! Some of the outfits and Barbies that I got have come back in Fashion. I recently rebought a Rock and Roll 1980’s Barbie (link to pinterest…I also had the peaches and cream dress).
  • We all had a lot of little cars and trucks. We made car families and we were so original. We had the “Truck Family”, who only had trucks, the “police car” family. There was the Mayor’s family, who were all the fancy cars. We had a group of “teenagers” that were what you called nearly on the scrap heat and they were all fosters. Of course the Mayor’s daughter was in love with one of them!
  • I also was given my cousins cabbage patch doll, but at the same time I was given a “Magic Nursery Doll” – (goes to a YouTube video). I still have those two! They’ve been put away though for my future children.
  • I had a puppy surprise and my brother had a Footrot Flats dog and one of the “surprise” puppies was black and white.
  • Since I was a Ballerina when I was little, I also had a “My pretty Ballerina – ebay link” Who’d hang out with my magic nursery and cabbage patch doll.
  • My top 3 favourite though was my life-sized doll, who we called Brittany. She was my “sister”. She was in all the family photos. Then my brother turned her into a goth and made her a little black dress and we still have her too. I have to take a picture of her.

I am having such a good time remembering these =D Thank you so much!

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

In all honesty the question above has really been making me smile and now I’m looking for the other toys from my childhood. Thank you!

Toy and games that will make 90’s girls (and some boys!) super nostalgic
