Thursday Theories – He’s real

This is the last time I will write about the the new Ariel “The Little Mermaid”. Mainly because I feel like you, my lovely readers, already “get it”.

The main reason I’m writing about it, is because I cannot get over the general stupid reasoning with “adults. Their “reasons” behind their whining. I will not give them the dignity of calling it an opinion, it’s just REALLY stupid.

For me, I can’t get over that these are “adults” whining, people my age, my mum and Gran’s age. It’s incredible!

Some of the stupidest things I’ve heard are listed below:

  • If they had a white man play Martin Luther King Jr, there’d be outrage!
  • She traditionally, was always played by a white person!
  • If you had white people play characters in Colour (Color) of People and Roots. There’d be outrage.

OF COURSE THERE WOULD BE, YOU UTTER BUFFONS!

Martin Luther King Jr, was a REAL person. Who fought for POC. He’s the one who really got the Civil Rights Act, moving. Colour (Color) of People and Roots, while may be not based on real people. Are based on REAL LIFE EXPERIENCES.

They are NOT MYTHS! They are real, living breathing human beings and real experiences.

As for the “traditionally always played by a white person” comments. So? It’s still a mythical creature, whose never existed. If a POC had written it first, it would have never been published to begin with. Andersen wrote his Little Mermaid and it was published in English: 1845. It just wouldn’t have happened. Also one, again, is a character in a fairy tale, and the other well known Mermaid, is an animation. So…

Honestly, I can imagine Mermaids and Men, more in Caribbean waters than the cold depths of European waters. That’s just me though. Look, the Little Mermaid is not my favourite Disney movie. It’s not close to even the Top 5. Considering what time Andersen lived in though, and the fact that he travelled too Italy, Greece and Constantinople. I suspect, he may have been influenced by those countries. But in the 1800’s, who, in Europe, would have read a story about a POC mermaid? Have you seen the fuss they’re making about in 2022?

Whoever has been in Rome is well acquainted with the Piazza Barberina, in the great square, with the beautiful fountain, where the Tritons empty the spouting conchshell, from which the water springs upwards many feet. “Hans Christian Andersen” The Improvisatore (1835!) Ten years before the Little Mermaid????!!!!

Sing a Song…Magical Monday #5

So since I felt like the live action version of “The Lion King”, and since it is also the month of “scary”. I thought that it’d be appropriate to talk about what I think the top 5 most “scary” Disney villains song that there are out there.

Number 5

It’s a classic and like the Hunchback of Notre Dame, not from one of my favourite Disney movies. But the song is a classic and I’m not really “scared” of the song, but it makes you wary. Let’s be honest, Ursula is really creepy and it’s not just because she’s evil. I have always been scared of octopuses and squid…WAY to intelligent and can get  in anywhere…ANYWHERE!

Poor Unfortunate Souls – Disney 1989

Number 4

This song frightens me because it’s all about a possessive “mother”. Is there anything scary than a possessive mother?! Or Mother-In-Law! Especially right near the end when she says “You”ll regret it”. It does sound like a threat.

Mother Knows Best – Disney 2010

Number 3

If you’ve ever seen Lion King “2”. You would have heard this number. It gives me chills. The way she sings about Simba’s Prides demise. I both completely love it and sing it to myself when I’m mad at someone. But it gives me chills because it is what it is. Chilling. Do not listen to this song before going to bed! It’s not that kind of lullaby!

*There is no video for this song. Its has to be one of my favourite all time songs and I can’t even find it on iTunes!*

Number 2

I cannot believe how much they stuffed this song up in the live action film! I had to re-listen to the animated version several times.

Be prepared – Disney 1994

Number 1

Although not my favourite Disney movie. This has to be one of the most creepy and evil songs of the whole Disney genre. I think it’s the most evil, because it’s full of real life situations, that this is how women are still treated. Like we are property to be posses and if we don’t comply, we’ll be killed. It’s a bit too real.

Retelling…Magically Monday #3

I am sure that my readers are aware of what the word “retelling” means. For those who do not, retelling simple to repeat or ‘retell’ a story you heard and you repeat. Sometimes with extreme accuracy or with little falsehoods hear and there, exaggerations if you will.

One of the funniest things I have been hearing lately, is how people are annoyed or bored with people retelling the Disney animated films. One person even went so far to say that Walt Disney would be turning in his grave with the unoriginal in Hollywood, because of the live action films.

Uhhh…

Apart from Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy…Those characters. Walt Disney didn’t come up with a single original thought. He retold stories that were already in the atmosphere. Walt Disney would not have a single leg to stand on, even if he did not like them. Personally, I think he would have loved them.

What is your favourite Disney movie and is it the same as the original?

Bet you didn’t see this one coming!

Now this is something that I had never noticed before and now it completely freaks me out!lol

Disney Princesses without fingernails

It shouldn’t even really bother me that much, but it is just so freaky! I mean I am always that person that says “It’s just a fairy tale”, but I’ve always had a thing about fingernails…Dirty fingernails are just a dead turn off, and no fingernails…Is just freaky!lol

Can my childhood take it anymore? Thank-you Disney!

I had a pretty bad this week, feeling pretty down, letting things get to me that I am always having to have keep under control, just to survive. Especially when I was doing so well, had one bad time and now I’m feeling fed up and frustrated, which is making me feel like I’ve taken a step backwards.

However something that completely made my weekend and made my brain not able to handle the awesomeness.

Not only did I find out that they are making a live action Lion King…Yes! You heard me right, they are making a live action Lion King…Which I’d assume would be more of a CGI thing, rather than getting actual Lions etc to act. The even better news though:

“Breaking: James Earl Jones and Donald Glover join the cast of the Lion King”

I am a Lion King-Alcoholic

In case you hadn’t been able to guess, I am a bit obsessed with “The Lion King”. Which is a little funny because I have real trouble even watching the film, it make me cry every single time Mufasa dies…I just cannot even!lol

However, I found this article…Who knows, maybe because I don’t watch the film that often…But I did not know these!

2016 … The year to be offended? Or not offended enough?

This post was inspired by something I was kind of involved with over the weekend. Mainly seeing the same saying coming up “2016…The Year to be offended by everything” People who were saying this were inspired by this post I found on Facebook.

It’s probably a phrase that most people are familiar with. Now what was cracking me up was all the comments *mental note: Stop reading the comments*…I was literally laughing through the comments, they run through from everything racism to how humans are superior to animals, to heated debate if Nala is a Queen or a Princess.

I know there are issues out there that are completely serious and people should “educate themselves” about *another phrase from 2016*. However, sometimes I think getting upset over topics like these, my comment “You all don’t know how to Disney”, detract from actual important issues. It just doesn’t seem to me to be proactive. Some things, to me, just need to stay fun. You need to have fun and good times, so you have the strength to fight for what matters. You can’t fight all the time, it takes too much out of you.

Plus, Nala was totally a Princess…Did you see any other male Lions around other than Scar? If you say Scar could be her father, we totally cannot be friends! =P

Absolutely Positively!

I have decided this week that I am going to try and do nothing but think positively. It will probably be a little tough, but I am so tired of worrying and I don’t think all this worrying is helping my anxiety…So I am determined to spend at least 80% of this week, not getting upset! Thinking only good thoughts!
