Matthew Flinders remains discovered in London

The main reason this is so intersting is because our current Prime Minister #ScoMo is apparently wanting to put money ($6.7 million) towards a replica of Captain Cooks boat. Part of the reason (other than spending money on a replica boat) While Captain Cook charted the east coast, he did not circumnavigate Australia. Matthew Flinders was the first to sail around the country between 1801 and 1803.

A class you wish you would have taken?

I did end up taking them in the end, it’s more I wish I had taken them on earlier, or continued with the study afterwards. I didn’t take Drama and Classical Studies until my very last year in High School and I deeply regret that. Drama mainly because the teacher already had favourites and so for me, I got the left over parts. Even saying that though I got the lead of the play before the “big main production” Mine went so much better than theirs as well, the teacher yelled at them!lol…It was so satisfying as well, because my now ex best friend was saying before hand, because I turned up to all the rehearsals…”But you’ve only got one line, what are you doing here?”…I may have only had one line in the major production but I didn’t get yelled at either!lol

Are you scared of heights?

It’s interesting when I was younger, they didn’t really bother me that much. However as I have gotten older, I have noticed a change. I guess it’s getting older and becoming more aware of the dangers I guess, lol.

Are you a good cook? If so, do you consider yourself a chef?

Let’s put it this way…I can cook to survive. It’s a funny thing really because my partner cooks really well, but he doesn’t like doing it. I don’t either, but I do it. My type of cooking is heating things up,lol…It’s only since I’ve met my partner that I’ve been learning to bake food from scratch, I do enjoy it…Just not all the time.

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

I appreciate the fact that at this moment, I can take a couple of days off of social media. That I even have social media to take time off from.

If you were given the opportunity to ride in a helicopter would go?

No! I get air sickness as it is. I can’t imagine my anxiety would much better either on a Helicopter either. Oh this sounds like a terrible idea! Let’s not do that idea!lol

What are some of your favorite type of proteins to eat? (meat, seafood, eggs, soy, cheese, nuts)

Can I say all of them? =D It’s my favourite food group! If I had to choose something for the rest of my life, it would have to be seafood. The rest I enjoy and to have to find something else to cook that isn’t meat would be hard for a bit. I would miss seafood though.

What would be your preference, awake before dawn, at dawn, or awake before noon?

Oh that’s made me think, it also depends on how well I’ve slept the night before.  I actually have no problem with waking before Dawn as long as I’ve slept well. I would definitely would want to be awake before Noon, that’s way to long of a sleep! I’d probably end up with a huge headache.

What inspired you or what did you appreciate this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

My own brain has inspired me this week. It’s fighting this week, it really truly is. It’s been one of those weeks where I just feel hopeless, but my mind keeps going, it keeps fighting.

Share Your World … Week 41

  1. Do you believe in love at first sight?
I do, but I also don’t believe that we’ve realised that it’s happened, if that makes any sense. I think about my current partner and my previous partners and those first time I met them. I believe there is some kind of of connection when you “a one” and also “the one”. Something happens, whether it’s hormones, destiny, something happens in those first moment, that we are not even aware of.
  2. Your first car?
I haven’t actually even learned to drive yet, one day though. My dream car would be a Mini though!
  3. Who taught you to ride a bike? How did it go?
My Dad really was the one who taught us, he bought us bikes and he kind of “made us” do it. Which sounds tough, but we would have never have done it if he hadn’t of made us. The bike he got me though, I think was a bit too big or tall for me. I can’t remember which way it’s called, but it was hard for me to get my leg over.
  4. Ugly and rich or beautiful and poor?
I would honestly have to go with Ugly and rich. I’m not trying be all holier than though. I really believe at the end of the day your friends, family and love relationships, the ones who care about you anyways, will still be around for you. At least though if I was rich, I would be able to travel and explore new cultures, new lands.
  5. What was the first dish you could cook?
I think I baked before I started to make dishes for dinner and such. I used to love making cookies, I just loved the smell. As for dinner, I think the first dish I could cook was tuna mornay, I love that dish, one of the reasons that I made it.

Food Glorious Food!

Most random of thoughts I had last night while dinner was being made. There’s this particular meal I don’t really enjoy. By “not enjoying” I mean I just think the meal taste kind of bland. Just can’t seem to get the same taste of when we go out and eat stir fry.

However, whenever when we cook the food it has this incredible amazing smell that makes me so hungry.

Does anyone else have a food like that? Or a vice a versa, where it smells horrible but tastes amazing?

Favorite thing to photograph? Write? Or Cook?

If you took my phone you would think I am totally a crazy “Dog” lady … I love taking photos of my “puppy” (she is like 9 years old)…She is just the cutest!

2012-02-25 20.31.37 I mean just look at that face!

Did you like swinging as a child? Do you still get excited when you see a swing?

I did love swinging in swings as child, it was the closest to a thrill that I was willingly to get. Especially when you get to that really high point before you go spinning around.

What has surprised you about blogging?

Honestly how I am still doing it!lol … I’ve kept journals and diaries and I usually am good for a month, and then it just stops. I actually feel really bad if I go a couple of days without making a post and then my head goes into overdrive and tries to scramble to think of something to write about.

List at least five favorite desserts.

  1. Jelly, or pretty much anything with jelly in it.

I made a thing! A Jelly thing =D

This year I have been really getting into cooking, I may have mentioned somewhere in a previous Blog. I can cook to “survive” but I’ve never really gotten into cooking. It’s interesting really pretty much all of the women in my family can cook, we can cook to live, but all the men in my family, they are the ones that are the creative in the kitchen.

I had seen this “glass jelly cake” all over my Facebook page and I just thought that it looked really good and it looked really easy to make. So I decided to make it.

The usual name for this “cake” is either called a “Rainbow Jelly/O Cake” or “Stained Glass Cake”.

So here are the steps (I swear that this is SO easy to make):

Step 1: Choose your flavours (I pretty much just picked any that looked good at the time, you can choose whatever you want…I am going to be getting green and red and make a Christmas one).

2015-10-14 12.27.12

Step 2: Place the jelly crystals into containers (use a different container for each colour, remembering that the length and shape of the container will determine how big the jelly squares will be)
2015-10-14 12.32.45

Step 3: Boil one (1) cup of water (most jelly packets will tell you to use two (2)cups, do not follow packet directions). The jelly squares will be more sturdy.
2015-10-14 12.39.13

Step 4: Pour the boiling *be careful* water into the containers, stir the jelly crystals until the crystals dissolve.

Step 5: Once the crystals have dissolve place the containers into the fridge and wait a few hours.

Step 6: Once you have waited a few hours, take containers out and either:

a) Cut the jelly into squares while in the containers and then placed them into a bowl/tray/case, or
b) Place Jelly into warm water for a FEW seconds and then, in one of the corners, wait for an air pocket and then it should fall out.

2015-10-14 15.32.04

Step 7: Cut up all the jelly squares and mix them up, so all colours are mixed up together evenly (this was the hardest part of the whole thing! The jelly will stick to your fingers!)

2015-10-14 15.47.23

Step 8: Fill 1/2 a cup with cold water and place two packet of clear and unflavoured gelatin in until the gelatin has “bloomed”.

2015-10-14 15.41.05

Step 9: Pour into the same bowl, 1 and 1/2 cups of boiling water and one can of sweetened condensed milk…Stir it all together and wait for it to cool.

2015-10-14 15.46.44

Step 10: Once the mixture has cooled down, then pour the mixture over the jelly squares

*Be careful of the tin that you use! I used one and didn’t realise that it was going to leak everywhere…After I took this photo I had to swap tins*

2015-10-14 16.20.13

Step 11: Place back into fridge and wait for a few hours (most people suggest overnight)

Enjoy!

Just so you know, it will be really sweet, but really light…Very refreshing! Great for a treat when it’s warm!

30 Days of Gratitude…Self Gratitude

Before I was going to write individually on each of these last few days what I was grateful for, but it’s been such a crazy week that I have decided to leave these last few days and write what I’m most grateful in one big go…So here I go…

Self Gratitude

I have decided that I NEED to change my life. After months of going back and forth with my last ex, I realised I didn’t trust him any-more, especially not the way that I did once. I have to take my ownership in that. I don’t think that he was a bad person, but I needed to be more sensible in the choice that I was making. I needed to ask him hard questions before we started dating. Which started making me think about all of my past relationships and question why they have thought it was alright to treat me the way they did, when they don’t do it to anyone else? What made them look into the eyes of someone they were supposed to have loved and cared about and go “You’re going to get hurt by this and I don’t care”?

I have decided that I am too hard on myself. I trip myself up by worrying to much about how everyone else is feeling and doing and then I end up putting myself on the back burner. So then I don’t achieve all the things that I needed to, to get anywhere in this life. This includes family, friends, everything aspect of my life. Even if my family don’t think I cook, when I cook a lot (sorry I don’t put everything I make on Facebook *rolls eyes*) Doesn’t mean I have to stop cooking things I enjoy cooking.

I think that the hardest thing in this life is to be grateful for yourself. Its you who gets you through those tough days ultimately. Your mind, your body, your spirit. Its yourself who chooses to step up and take care of yourself.

Food…Yum Yum in the Tum Tum!

Food! Food Glorious Food! I have really enjoyed baking and cooking over the last few years (although if you asked my family they would tell you I don’t even know how to turn on the oven to begin with…I lived in America on and off for three years, what did they think I used to do? Order take out every night?) America is actually the place where I learnt to cook and I love them for that!

Apart from Pasta though I don’t really enjoy cooking dinner food persay. I LOVE to bake though! I love baking cookies and cakes and cupcakes. I love creating desserts. One thing I have never really been into “cooking” though was dips. I just never really even thought about creating my own dips before.

That is until now…

I went to a barbecue last weekend and I found the most amazing dip I have ever come across before! A corn relish dip! I spent the time eating the dip rather than the meat and the salads. So today I am attempting to make it today. Here is the recipe:

  • 250 gms corn relish
  • 220 gms cream cheese

Mix until well blended.

Simple right? The great thing about this recipe is that you can mix it up and change it around so you can add your own tastes…It is amazing!

Doughnuts!

Not only am I excited that I managed to finally posted a “Fact Friday” on a Friday (YAY for me!) but I was also excited by the prospect that we recently had a 24/7 Krispy Kreme open up with my town! =D

They have been advertising it for months and I was so excited…Repeat…WAS…excited about it. As soon as it came out every single naysayer came out and I disappointedly learned about some facts about Doughnuts =(…One of the main ingredients that are used in Doughnuts is Palm Oil.

Now I’m not sure how many of you know about Palm Oil and where it comes from. Sadly, one of the main ingredients comes straight from the habitats of the Orang-utan. So essentially by destroying the habitats of these wonderful creatures it ends up killing them in the long run, when they can longer attain their natural food and habitat resources. Unfortunately this means no more Krispy Kreme for me.

Palm Oil is the second most widely produced edible oil.
