Damage

I am writing this to find out more about what you all think.

One thing that continually disturbs me about a lot of Rowling cult, is the insistence. That if you liked HP as a child, or even as an adult, then you are obligated to defend her. The out right disturbing harassment of Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe. With grown adults saying these individual adults, OWE Rowling, because she gave them their careers.

It disturbs me, because a lot of these people have kids. How many of these “adults” think they’re children OWE them something? How many of these “parents” think their children owe them unquestioning alliance, like my Dad does. How many of these “parents” think their children are THEIR property. I’m nearly 40, and I am only really NOW standing up to my Dad. That’s a long time, really it’s pretty much half of my life.

Hopefully I live to 100, but I doubt it, lol

For the young ones

I wanted to do something fun for my first post for Black History Month. I know that normally it’s all about honoring the past, but you know. Let’s have a little fun, before we get too serious. One thing about the modern times, there are more and more options for young people to buy toys. And for collectibles for us older “kids” too!

I manage to snag myself one of these, and I love it. It’s on my bookshelf now, I thought that was appropriate placing. It’s Maya Angelou Barbie Inspiring Women Doll.

Colored Francie made her debut in 1967, and she is sometimes described as the first African American Barbie doll.

Of course with Black Panther played by the beautiful Chadwick Boseman, there are a lot more options for “boys” as well. Although personally, I have no problem with what “gender” toys, and who plays with what “gender” toys. If I was younger, I would have LOVED a Black Panther toy. Black Panther and Chadwick Boseman are equally as beautiful.

And don’t think for a second that African American people get out of those “real life looking” creepy baby dolls.

*shivers*

I know that plastic isn’t the “in” thing…But at least they look cute, and not “alive” like Chucky.

So of course you have Barbie, Mattel, Bratz…I can’t think of other doll companies, lol.

Don’t forget about Etsy! They have such a range!

I know 2000, was a few years ago…But you know, she’s beautiful!

The funny thing about Dr Seuss

So recently I saw someone like a post on Facebook. Which was in reply to a question asked “What was your favourite childhood book”. My facebook friend didn’t say Dr Seuss. And neither did anyone else.

Why is that funny?

All this outrage about “cancelling Dr Seuss” and not a single person, including my friend who said the world had gone crazy, said Dr Seuss.

Did they even care?

Common Sense…Bullying

cw: bullying, childhood trauma

Actually, people who hate on strangers are probably more likely to have had a tragic childhood. Hate is taught. A lot of therapists, actually think that Trump (as an example) probably had some traumatic incident when he was a child. And thus, he’s been stuck at that mental child age.

It makes logical sense when you*THINK* about it. Those who are bullied, become bullies, like transphobia. Chances are, it’s more likely that people who are being transphobic, are far more likely to have had a traumatic childhood, or were raised by bigoted parents.

Common sense would dictate that trying to bully, harass and take away the rights of people who are not only strangers to you, but you don’t know any, and haven’t been harmed by that group. THAT’S not normal. Trans and gay people are definitely normal. Its just their brains are wired differently, that’s it. They’re still normal though. Whatever that is, anyway.

QUESTIONS:

Social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat) a good thing, a bad thing or a mixture of both?

It’s a mixture of both. Some days I can be on it and be fine and just interact with people that I care about. Then there are other days when I can’t stand the stupidity, even if it’s with the people I care about, lol. The best thing it keeps you in contact with people you care about, and most of the time for free.

Are you camera shy or do you pose for the camera with confidence?

I don’t mind taking pictures of myself, but I’m shy taking them with other people. I’m an introvert, so I feel comfortable taking pictures of myself more because I’m comfortable around myself, lol. A lot of people that I know are extroverts, so a lot of the times they want to make sure they look good. Doesn’t happen so much anymore, lol. But most people I hang around with now only ever take a group photo. So it’s not as big as a deal.

Is there anything you’ve kept from younger years for sentimental reasons alone?

I’ve kept quiet a few thing. I tend to keep things a lot. Not like a hoarder. For example, I’ve stopped buying plush toys, because I’ve got so many from my childhood that I’ve held onto. But if for some reason I get rid of it. Like one of my nieces really liked one of them, so I gave them to her. I feel like that gives me permission to get another one, lol. I also recently went through and chucked out a whole bunch of pictures and presents from my ex-friends. I did keep letters though, and any presents that I actually use, because why should I have to get rid of them? I’ve kept the letters too because there are memories from high school and other things I achieved in them.

Do you like to decorate for different holidays?

Yes…yes I do. Every year I have to convince my partner to decorate for Christmas. This year I’ll have to do it again because we’re going to visit his family, so he never thinks there’s any reason to when we wont be in the house on Christmas Day. I’ll probably just do it anyway, lol

This Week’s Questions:

  1. Was the last thing you read digital or print? I’m actually reading two things at the moment. One is a biography by Leonard Nimoy called “I Am Spock”. The first bio that I’ve enjoyed in a while. The second is Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare, I was so excited for this one and I am really struggling with it.
  2. Are you more an extrovert or introvert? Oh definitely an Introvert, probably why I enjoy Blogging so much. Once you get to know me I am more of an extrovert, but not by much. Introvert by heart, always.
  3. How is your life different from what you imagined as a younger person? I thought I’d be married by now with children. Steady job, with a house. I can’t remember or not if I thought that I was going to be married to a “Prince William” type or not. I’ve been thinking about a lot of things lately. I do not want to be a 50 year old first time mother.
  4. Do you think about dying?   Does death scare you?  Why or why not? This is a loaded question! I have actually been thinking about it a lot lately. Like the question it’s just something that keeps coming up again and again. It does and doesn’t scare me, I’m scared about how I’m going to go. Will I have something horrible and long winded, will I be alone, or will I have family and loved ones around? I’m not religious, but I think I will see loved ones on the other side. I’ve told my partner that I’m going first though, lol

GRATITUDE:

I found this interesting challenge and did it myself.  I’m offering these questions as a gratitude challenge for those who care to do it.    You can answer in text or photo. (I’ll be sharing these in a different post)

This Week’s Questions:

For the parents in the crowd:  What would be the absolute worst name you might give your child? If you’re not a parent (I’m not), then what’s the worst name you could give your pet?

Oh, there are so many bad names out there! I have seen so many lately, that it’s hard to tell if these parents were serious or not…One women (you might have even heard of her) She named her daughter “Abcde” I am not even kidding. It’s pronounced Ab-see-dee…Which is actually nice, but the way she’s spelt it.

What mildly annoying curse might you wish you could curse annoying people with?

I think that I would probably to give them a cold, just annoying enough, that it is annoying. Not one that makes them completely incapable, just one that bugs them.

What’s the weirdest thing you did as a child?

I got into this really odd habit when I was child, of plucking my eyelashes, pretty much till I had none left. I don’t remember why I started, or even when or why I stopped, but I remember doing it.

Do you believe things happen for a reason or are random?

I think it’s a little bit of:
Season 7 GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

And Finally, in the spirit of New Year’s:   What’s a resolution (if you make them, I don’t) you’re making for the New Year?   How confident are you in keeping it a reasonable amount of time?

The best resolution I make is with Goodreads. All the others very rarely happen.

Irregardless of your physical fitness, coordination or agility: If you could be an athlete what would do do? Remember this is SYW, dreaming is always allowed

I have always wanted to be an Ice-Skater, they just all look so beautiful in the ice! They almost feel like they’re floating sometimes. I have always loved Torvill and Dean, and I have their film on DVD. I was obsessed when I was a child. I’d go over my Grandparents and watch “Fire and Ice”.

A piece of clothing from your younger childhood you still remember?

I do. I have a dress, it’s kind of hard to describe, but I looked so cute in it! It was a mid blue, sports style with a hood. It had these white and black checker pockets too, lol. I LOVED it! Good quality too, it lasted for quiet a while. I had to stop wearing because I grew out of it.

In a car would you rather drive or be a passenger?

Although I cannot actually drive. I am starting to learn, but I’d rather not be doing that. I’m doing it mainly because I feel I have too. With myself and my furbabies getting unexpectedly sick and my Dad having a triple instead of a double bypass. I feel like I have too now. I prefer being the passenger though.

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

I really appreciate the people on WordPress. Commentary wise I have had some amazing, inspirational conversations this week. They have been really motivating!
