Mothers Day (Australia)

First, for my overseas readers. DO NOT FREAK OUT! It is only Mothers’ Day in Australia at the moment…Do not worry!

I am getting to spend the day with my Mum, Aunt and Gran seeing the newest exhibition and I am so excited about it!

I’m taking it back!

Although I am totally divided on the whole Australia Day controversy. I feel we need another name for the day, but I also feel like we can still have an “Australia Day”. Just not on this day! Does anyone have a problem with another public Summer holiday?

However I am heading and staying over for the night at one of more popular beach towns and I want to take it back! One of the people who I have banished from my life forever, always called it “hers” when she doesn’t even live here! It’s always been about her…But it never was and it will never be again! It’s my town now!

Also did you know that Luna Park in Sydney was originally first in Adelaide at Glenelg Beach? Adelaide was too small a town at the time though, they decided they’d take it to Sydney…So middle fingers up to all those people who say that Sydney’s Luna Park is better than Melbourne’s Luna Park…We had it first!

4 Years on…

Over the weekend I have had the pleasure of celebrating a very important anniversary today…It has been 4 years (since today) that I posted my first Blog post. How exciting!

For those who are regular readers will know that I actually started this Blog as a school subject, about different type of social media type websites…and the rest they say is History! 4 years on and 550 readers on and I am still going!

Which is a feat in itself!

I have about 5-10 diaries and they all have about 10 maybe 15 pages full and then I just dropped them off and that was it. The fact that I have managed to keep this up for 4 years and make regular posts is absolutely amazing too me.

Maybe use it as a chance to make some changes?

Happy Birthday Your Majesty

So YAY to long weekends! Is there anything better than a long weekend? Unless of course you’re a casual worker like me, where you can be called in every day, so you never really relax. It’s hard to describe to people who have never been a casual worker before. I feel like I have to act like I am going to work the next day, even when I’m not scheduled, because I could still be called in. I do not want to be called into work and be all hung over, or something like that.

The reason for our pubic holidays is to celebrate Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth birthday. Since Australia is apart of the Commonwealth, we get a public holiday, It’s a little odd though. The Queens ACTUAL Birthday is April 21st, but her “official” birthday is always on a Saturday during June, generally the second weekend.

So why the second birthday? (Other than…How cool would that be?!)

Queen Elizabeth is not the first Royal Family member to have a second birthday. The tradition was believed to have started with the Reign of King George II in 1748. The answer really is quiet simple and you can see when you see the reason why it started to become a tradition. George II was born in October but the annual summer military cavalcade became a celebration of the king as well as the armed forces.

This Birthday weekend starts now…

My actual birthday is tomorrow (Saturday), but I have things happening from now. So you probably wont hear from me at all for a couple of days, apart from one post that’s already been scheduled. I tried to get something that would get everyone together, but other people sharing the same week as me had different plans. So now I’ve got to see three different groups of people at different times.

Although I am excited to see people I care about, do you find that Birthdays tend to very rarely go the way you want them too? People ask you what you want too do, but they don’t really mean it? Even presents start becoming a disappointed, I had all these people ask me for my wishlists and now they’re all telling me that they’re just going to give me money? Like, what’s the point?lol…I couldn’t buy the things I wanted because I thought one of them were getting it, and now they’re all sold out. I have to celebrate my Birthday, not on my Birthday, but on someone’s non-birthday too and my partner wants to go straight to one celebration, without seeing my Dog and I want to see my Dog.

My Mum even said that we could have a combined Mothers Day and my Birthday thing and I said “HELL NO!” We’ve done that for the last couple of years and I end up doing the dishes all by myself, even though my cousins kids are perfectly old enough to help, while they complain about how bored they are. Including last year when I had hurt my leg and hobbling around in pain…Happy Birthday to me!lol

It’s okay

It is okay to be single on Valentine’s Day…I mean literally every single person on this earth has been single on Valentine Days and there is nothing stopping you from celebrating the day either…Do or Don’t it all good. It’s on a Tuesday as well. What a terrible day to have Valentine’s on anyways.

When I was single I still celebrated Valentines Day and it was great. I never did go out on my own though. If I did, forever whatever, was by myself on Valentine’s Day I would get myself a dinner. Which doesn’t really make it any different from any other night when I’m by myself. When I was single I celebrated Valentines Day by going out with my Mum, who is also single, and one time all of my single friends got together and we had the best time ever!

Happy Chinese New Year!

Just a bit of  a different Blog over the weekend (I don’t usually post over the weekend) Just to say a big Happy Chinese New Year! This year it’s the Year of the Rooster…I am a Rat =D

Chinese New Year 2017: Year of the Rooster, do’s and don’ts

This year I discovered new in that in Chinese astrology each zodiac year is associated with an animal sign, plus one of the five elements – so 2017 is the year of the rooster, and the element is fire. It’s apparently a rare combination and was last seen in 1957, and can have a good or bad outcome depending for those who are prepared to work hard.

One of the funny things is is that the first “Do” is to visit family and wish them prosperity and good fortune. The reason this is such a doable thing for me is I am already visiting my family today, to wish my cousin luck. Since he’s going to South America for 8 months. Don’t wear red if you’re a Rooster! Apparently that’s your unlucky colour.

Personally, I like the more Asian type “religions” or “Beliefs” I don’t really relate at all to the more first world and Western type religions. I don’t know why. I just prefer them, which probably sounds completely blase. I don’t mean any disrespect by sounding so blase about it. I’ve met with Buddhist monks before and participate in their ceremonies, mainly watching them. Maybe somewhere in my past lives I was a Monk…Or something similar.

What Chinese Astrology sign are you? Are you a Rooster? Do you celebrate Chinese New Year at all?

I hope that you have a good day

So I hope that you all had a great day yesterday however it was spent. Whether you celebrate it or not, and that’s all good. My day started off with excitement when we were woken up in the middle of the night, the people who lived across the road have a brush fence. We had a loud repetitive banging on the door and when we ventured out, the fence was on fire, and the fire was so fierce, that we actually thought that the house was on fire.

Which then kind of set the feeling for the day. I haven’t had to go to a partners family thing in a really long time. I think I’ve only actually had to do it once or twice, and I was exhausted!

I think one of the reasons I didn’t feel a Christmassy this year, was this whole “attack on Christmas thing”. This may come as a shock as some, but not everyone celebrates Christmas, for various reasons. The world is made of very different people, different backgrounds, different beliefs or “non-beliefs”. If they want to say Happy Holidays, they are absolutely allowed too…No one is making you say Happy Holidays. Say Merry Christmas if you want, but understand something…

NOT EVERYTHING REVOLVES AROUND YOU

NOT EVERYONE CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS

IT’S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT YOU

I think it’s the main reason I LOVE celebrating Christmas with my Mum’s side, we just are so laid-back, if someone’s late, or if someone ‘accidentally’ says “Happy Holidays” it’s perfectly fine.

Share Your World … Week 51

What is your favorite holiday?

I would have to say that it’d be between Christmas and Easter, but it’s mainly because a lot of those type of holidays, we spend with family, and I think that’s why they are my favourite holidays. I would say Christmas tips the scales just that little bit more because people are more willing to get together around that holiday, rather than Easter.

What types of food is associated with your holiday?

I guess it’s would be very English food, kind of traditional food, I guess you would say. We have the Turkey, the Ham, lot’s of boiled vegetables and I love Brussel sprouts! We do the pudding and the Christmas cake.

Do you travel for your holiday?

I don’t usually, we’ve been going to a family members house every year. I travel about 30 minutes to go to their travel, so I do “travel”lol…Next year though I will have too and I am not looking forward to it, it’ll be one of my first Christmas’s away. I will be driving about 3 hours to get to my partners side of the family.

Is it a religious or spiritual holiday?

The great thing about my family is that we are all so different, and we all have different beliefs backgrounds and we get along so well. So it’s kind of a everything holiday, lol

Is there a gift exchange?

Yeah, as we have gotten older the presents between the adults has gotten less. We’re now at the point where with the adults we just do a Secret Santa.

How long does the celebration last?

Usually just the day, but we sometimes catch up a couple of days to celebrate some of family members birthday who were born in that week.
