Thank you to Life Lessons Around the Dinner Table for tagging me in this tag. A beautiful writer with a beautiful soul…Hope that doesn’t sound too creepy!lol

Kristians Questions:

  1. What fictional world would you like to explore if you could? Without question, the world of Tolkien. Kristian and I were talking about this. I like Harry Potter, but I am a Tolkien girl. It’s just more beautiful to me. I want to be an Elf, sorceress.
  2. What is your idea of a perfect day? Waking up on cool on a Spring morning, at my leisure. It also depends, some days the perfect day is doing nothing, other days, having a good clean out. A nice shower. Probably a combination of reading, playing games and blogging. Eating nice home cooked food, without me making it!
  3. If you could be a professional athlete in any sport, what sport would you play? I have always wanted to be really good at ice skating. I think its been ever since I saw a movie from my childhood called “Fire and Ice”. It’s an ice skating movie with Dean and Torvill. I love it! I have it on DVD , but you can’t skip chapters and it’s really hard to get too.
  4. What is your favorite joke? I’m not sure whether to admit this or not, but I actually enjoy those Christmas cracker jokes.
  5. What movie(s) can you watch over & over again? Moulin Rouge, Phantom of the Opera, Beauty and the Beast, Robin Hood:Men in Tights, Transformers (all of them), The Mummy 1 and 2,  and any of the Rush Hour movies.
  6. What are your New Year resolutions, and if you don’t have any, what are some long term goals you hope to achieve?
  7. Is there a meaning behind your name? If so, what is it? Not so much a meaning, but I was named after Lauren Bacall. A Golden Hollywood Era actress (think Bogart and Bacall). There is an actual meaning behind Lauren it means “Laurel of Wreath”, but I wasn’t named for that.
  8. If you could master one skill, what would that skill be? Non magic skill – Driving well (lol). Magic – time. More like a click of the fingers, I can here to there.
  9. What is your favorite Disney movie? It’s between The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and Pocahontas.
  10. In your opinion, what movie has the best soundtrack? It’d have to be between ‘The Lion King’ and ‘Lord of the Rings.’ They’re so different and they are beautiful for different reasons.
  11. What snacks can you just not live without? I’ve just discovered some new ones. There these chips called “Pop’d Chips” and I LOVE their sweet chilli and sour cream flavour. They are really light and I could very easily eat an entire packet in one go. Actually all the snack type things I’ve been really liking lately are sweet chilli and sour cream flavour.

The Secret life of a Book blogger

I admit, I completely stole this from The Tattooed Book Geek. I thought though, that it was too much of a challenge and looked like a lot of fun to pass over!

So here are my answers to “The Secret Life of a Book Blogger“.

How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging for about 3-4 years now. I started my Blog as a school project for a social media type class. Not only had I never of WordPress up to that but I hadn’t even heard the term “Blogging” at that point. I was happily to find that Blogging wasn’t just necessarily a “diary”. I thought what most people were blogging about were geniuses!

At what point do you think you’ll stop blogging?

I’m not sure to be completely honest with you. I enjoy it so much, so I’d had to imagine that it’d be something pretty serious to make me stop blogging.  Blogging is one of my outlets, so it’d be hard to imagine not to be blogging. Even those weeks where I’m sick or busy. I usually sit down for a couple of hours and try to write something.

What is the best thing about blogging?

The Blogging community. I kid you not, if it weren’t for the other people that would be another reason to not Blog anymore. I have “met” so many like-minded individuals. I just wrote a post recently, if there was some way to set up a “chat” or forum for people who Blog to chat. Some people I follow now I would consider to be a friend. I feel sane when I’m on here, even if we don’t totally agree. The discussions are respectable, rather than name calling like Twitter or Facebook.

What is the worst thing? what do you do to make it okay?

I actually really have to think about it. There’s isn’t too much that is the “worst”. There are things that are more annoying, rather than the “worst”. The Tattooed Book Geek wrote something about Blog tours, but I’m not even sure what that is?lol

How long does it take you to make/find pictures to use?

It honestly depends on why I’m using the picture, sometimes a picture can inspire a post.  Sometimes as I’m writing, I find something that I think fits well. There isn’t a “time limit” really. I like to put something in, to make it a bit more interesting, but not every time.

Who is your book crush?

Will Herondale. His character is the one that first got me onto the World of Shadowhunters, and it’s been amazing to see how many authors I now enjoy because of this one novel. Will Herondale introduced me to the world of Young Adults and the whole magic and annoying love triangles…But mainly magic!

What author would you like to have on your blog?

There are quiet a few that would be exciting, but I don’t really think my Blog is that way inclined.

What do you wear when you write your blog posts?

I don’t have a particular outfit. Mainly because I am constantly writing and editing my blog posts, so sometimes I’ll be at home. Sometimes I’ll be at work. I would love to be able to say some fabulous outfit, but it’s more like…whatever, lol

How long does it take you to prepare?

Oh it can take anywhere from 20 minutes to a couple of days. I tend to start writing an idea for a blog. Then I’ll constantly edit it until it’s ready to go. It’s very unusual for me to start one and finish it the same day. I can though start a couple. On the weekends, I tend to start writing a couple of idea that I have. Then over the week I will edit them. The only thing that’s really constant is when I know that a blog is being posted soonish, I will work on them in order. For example, I started to write this one about a week ago and I was working on it today. Yet, there is one tomorrow that I have to finish off that I’ll work after this one. Then another that I’ll work on that’s being posted on Wednesday.

How do you feel about the blogging community?

I feel like I’ve answered this question a few times already but once more won’t hurt. They’re the best. You get a few who try and spoil it for the majority but they are harmless really. Their hearts are usually in the right place but their mouths (or fingers) aren’t, if you get what I mean. How did that sound so weird…? The blogging community are such a supportive and engaging presence that contains people from all walks of life. People who read all sorts of books and share their opinions in many different ways. I wouldn’t be where I am without them.

What do you think one should do to create a successful blog?

I agree with the Tattooed Book Geek about this question. There is no one simple answer to this question. It also depends on what you determine to be successful.

Slight Blog Post Freak outs

I don’t know about anyone else, but I can usually have between 5-10 post all scheduled and ready to go. When that number starts to drop, I start to worry a little and then put pressure on myself to write a good post, ready to go. I felt like this all week last week, I was struggling to find inspiration. Over the weekend though, I managed to get the count back up again.

Do any of you get this feeling too? You just hit a blogging wall and that’s it. You can’t get it back there for a bit!

  • Give a brief story of how your blog started.
  • Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  • Nominate 10-15 other bloggers for this award, and inform them of their nomination.

Thank the nominator

I was nominated by the very awesome LauraVent69. Please pop over and have a look her. Not only are her blogs funny but they are also extremely entertaining. I especially, have been enjoying her post about colours.

How I got started

If you’ve been following my blog for a while now. You probably know that I started this whole blog has a school project. I was doing my Library course and one of our electives was to learn about social media. So I thought it was an important class, because I did notice that a lot of Libraries are starting to get in on the whole social media thing. One of the classes we were learning about, was media platforms that we had never heard of before, and WordPress happened to be one of them.

Two pieces of advice for new bloggers

1 – I think the first bit of advice, is kind of obvious. Write for you. I know it’s a “duh” thing, but being on Quora and watching the amount of people who want to start a Blog to make money. It’s not a good place to start. I only know of a couple of Bloggers on WordPress who are making money, and it took them a while. If it happens, that is beyond fantastic. But ultimately do it for you and because you want to be here and because YOU want to do it.

2 – While I don’t think you need to stick to a specific theme to stick too 100% all the time. It’s good to have something to think about and write as a constant. The hardest thing can be figuring out what that is. As I mention above, I started this for a project for school. So when I started I was doing a Library Diploma and so thought that writing about Libraries would be a great Blog to blog about. As time has gone on, it’s changed a bit. My blog is now, for me, about learning, about…well everything. “Learn something new every day”. Learning and Understanding. Two important tools for any Librarian to have. I love trying to understand things and people, so that way I can understand where people are coming from. I love learning about new ways to cope with things, like anxiety and mental health.

MY NOMINEES:

Last night I was going to finish off this blog, but I got called into work and am now work crazy hours this week. Meaning, more hours than I’ve been getting lately. So I don’t really have the time to nominate so many people. I’ll try a couple though:

Three Things about Myself:

  • There are two movies since I can remember that I watch at least once a year “The Red Shoes” and “The Beatrix Potter Ballet” film.
  • I want to foster animals…If I ever win the lottery I will open up my own animal foster care centre.

My Best Posts:

Happy Birthday Baby brother!

I can’t keep Calm! =D

Molly’s questions:

  • Do you have any favourite festive reads? if so, what are they?

I don’t really have any festive reads that I read around this time of year, but there are a lot of Christmas specials on the television that I like to watch. I don’t think that they even had them played last year.

  • Who is your all time favourite book character?

Oh wow, I don’t think that I even have one character that I can think of. There are just way to many for me to pick one. I guess the first person I thought of was Arwen from LotR, both books and films. She is everything I aspire to be.

  • Are you planning on posting Christmassy content in December?

Possibly…I’m not sure yet. I want to post happy and motivating posts in the last couple of weeks. I enjoy New Years, but I feel like renewing is more around the time of your birthday than actual New Years (except of course if New Years IS your birthday).

  • What is the one book you would recommend to anyone?

I’ve only read this year, but I would highly recommend “Circe” by Madeline Miller. It is fantastic! Even though I’ve already read it, I have actually asked for it, for Christmas as well.

  • Do you have any Christmas traditions?

Only really have a couple. We usually put our Christmas tree up on the 1st of December, but take it down 12 days after Christmas. The other one we have is, the adults on our Mums side do a secret Santa, we wrap the presents in newspaper. Helps keep it more secret, but my Grandfather actually started it when he though it was a waste of money to wrap it paper that you just chuck out.

The Rules For Sunshine Blogger Award

  • Thank to the person that nominated you.
  • Link the post back to them.
  • Display the picture on your post.
  • Answer their questions.
  • Nominate 10 bloggers.
  • Provide 11 questions for your nominees.

My Questions

  1. Why do you write blogs?

When I first started, I wasn’t exactly sure why I was keeping up with it. Even now, I’m not sure. I have a very random Blog. I don’t seem to have a “type”. Whatever I’m writing though seems to be keeping people interested and they keep reading. I guess I’m writing as well to show people that you don’t to have a “set theme” either. Just writing to reach out and reach out to others, keeps me coming back. I have found the nicest people writing my Blog.

2. What are Top 5 lessons you’ve learned in your life?

  • If ANY relationship is not working well (toxic) for you anymore, no matter how long you’ve known the person. Speak with them first and if nothing changes, move on. It’s alright.
  • If you, also for any reasons, can’t work in your dream career. Make sure that the job you are in, you at least like the people you work with.
  • I believe dark times will reveal who you are, but also, those people around you too.
  • Furbabies ARE family, they can be so much better than humans. Animals in general, don’t underestimate them!
  • There will always be that one paragraph on your Word document that just will not format properly, like the rest!

3. Are you an Introvert or an Extrovert?

Oh definitely an Introvert, especially when I’m around people I don’t know or know that well. I explain myself like this: When I’m getting to know you or first meet you, I am a Fluttershy. When I know you well, I am Pinkie Pie. Yes, that is a My Little Pony reference.

4. Who’s your favourite Music band?

I don’t really have a favourite band, I just like what I like. I like everything from Enya, to Metallica, to Eminem (sometimes).

 5. What’s best book you’ve read & like to recommend others?

Oh gosh! This is a huge list to choose from! I might just choose from one that I’ve read from this year. I am still in love with “Circe” written by Madeline Miller. I love it so much I am going to ask for it for Christmas and if I don’t get I’ll buy it anyway.

6. What’s best life advice you ever got from someone?

It’s not really advice, it’s more of a “knowing”…Knowing that I’ve got help around me, I just need to reach out and ask.

 7. Name your favourite festival.

I haven’t gone to a musical festival in a couple of years, my favourite WAS Soundwave and I got to see Metallica…AMAZING!!! They actually had Linkin Park first and there were amazing too. However, I am a big Nerd. So I love all the “Cons”. I just wish I lived in America, so I could go to the San Diego one! It’s on the bucket list.

   8. Describe moment when you were proud of yourself.

Even though we ended up not being friends anymore. I am proud of myself that I stood up and told my “best friend” of half my life. That her boyfriend is abusive and a bully and she can do better. I think this was the third or fourth time they had broken up and when I heard he had pushed her while they were drunk, that was it. The ONLY thing I regret I have, was not to saying to her when she would say to me “I know you don’t like him” was “What is there too like?”.

9. Which is that one movie which has inspired you the most?

I’m not sure about inspired, but I guess I also do…lol…All of the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbits…It inspires me and with one simple quote…

SamWise

   10.  Are you a health conscious or a food freak?

Only when I have to be, if that makes any sense? This last and past year with everything that happened to myself and others in my life (My Dad had a triple bypass, a friend who is a year younger than I, had a heart attack etc) You do start to become more aware.

   11. If you have read my blogs , what’s your favourite blog written by me ?

I do read your Blogs! My favourite had to be Music: My escape This is mainly because I can relate to it so much.

My Questions to my Nominees

  1. If money was no object, what would you be doing on the first day? (Or I guess right now) Would you be working in your dream career?
  2. If it wasn’t completely morally (and sometimes illegally) wrong to keep a wild animal, which one would you want to keep?
  3. What would be your favourite Mythical pet to have?
  4. What is the hardest and the best life lessons you’ve learnt?
  5. As my therapist asked me my first session, are you a worrier or a warrior?
  6. What is your meaning of life?
  7. What is the one thing you would love to be able to “do” to make the world a better place?
  8. How do you, or would like to, spread kindness?
