QUESTIONS:

Can you bake a cake?   (credit for this question goes to Di, who asked it on her post recently.   Thanks Di! After last week’s SYW, we needed a little bit of sweet and light!)

https://pensitivity101.wordpress.com/2020/02/29/its-a-mystery/

I can technically bake a cake, whether that’s baking well or not is another matter. I actually prefer to bake cookies. I LOVE cookies, and it seems everyone else bakes cakes in my family anyway. I think once I have kids, I’ll probably have to more, but basically I can, but I prefer cookies =D

What’s one thing that can instantly make your day better?

Without a doubt, both of the furbabies instantly make the day better. Even when you go to the rubbish bin, they are just so genuinely happy to see you. Of course as well, when you get that package you’ve been waiting for, sometimes you think it’s gotten lost and then you realise…It has not! Or starting to read a really good book.

When you were a kid, did you eat the crusts on your sandwich or not?

I ate it all, baby!

What’s something your family would be surprised to learn about you?

I’m not actually sure to be honest. They know pretty well, I haven’t really hid anything from them. The only thing I’ve hidden from them is the fact that my anxiety tablets made me depressed there for a bit.

AND (of course)

GRATITUDE IS AN ATTITUDE!

Please feel free to share some gratitude from this past week (or month or year).  This is purely optional of course, but it does tend to uplift everyone (I happen to think) to read some happy and/or joyful thoughts or view some uplifting pictures.    Thank you if you do so!

Just having another day here. With the ability to stay off social media if I so choose. I guess I feel grateful that I have choices.

QUESTIONS.

(the last two are courtesy of Teresa of The Haunted Wordsmith)
  • Is it wrong to sell store-bought pastries at a bake sale?

I would say if it wasn’t for the fact, that if I was involved, I would probably end up doing this myself as well.

  • Have you ever interacted with the police?

I actually have, I just remembered, but as a victim. That was quiet a few years ago now. It was a really interesting experience. Basically, I got attacked on a bus, got off the bus, walked home, mum was on the phone, waited till she got off and then burst into tears. She was all like “Lauren, I would have gotten off the phone”. The police were so nice as well. Actually while we were talking to the police, they had a call come through with the exact description of my…perp. So they obviously continued on, but I was never called to go to court or anything.

  • What will you remember most about this past year (this question will show up again, in late December, just FYI)

There’s a few things this year, and so far all pretty. Nothing to bad. The worst that’s happened is that my partners father developed another clot, BUT he was close to a hospital, so he’s fine now. So far this…Oh wait…What am I talking about? I nearly lost my puppy this year! I mean I like my partners father, but this my puppy (of about 13 years old). That seems forever ago now. Even though I’m starting to move out, she’s the main reason I don’t mind travelling far to work. We are lucky to still have her. So although she lives with my mum, sometimes for work I stay with my mum, so I don’t have to travel so far. She’s my little ray of light. Now I’m crying at work, remembering all this, lol

  • Is it better to have fungus on your toes, your tongue, or your pizza?

I wonder how others have answered. I would rather have fungus on my toes. Pizza, that’s just gross. Tongue, that would probably feel as icky as the pizza. But toes, toes, I think I could cope with…Just.

  • What is one slang word that makes your skin crawl?

As an Australian, we have many! The one that makes me shiver is “budgie smuggles” It’s another word for speedos.

Bake? Baking?!

So in the funnier things that are happening to me right now. Not sure how many of you have read that I am spending the next couple of weeks mostly alone. My partners going to see his family and I can’t go for two main reasons. One) The cat HAS to have these tablets that should stop seizures, but he is horrible at taking them, so we feel that part is unfair to ask someone to take care of him, when he have to fight him, lol. Two) I want to be around in case I get called into work, or get a job interview for another job. Trust me…I am heavily looking for somewhere new now.

Then my mum is going to visit my brother interstate and I am going to be looking after the family dog. Which is cool, she’s a chihuahua and even though she’s taking tablets as well, we can hide them in her food and she eats it.

The funny thing is I’m alone for about half of April, but everyone will be here for the Easter long weekend (I don’t know if the US and the UK take Friday, Sunday and Monday off, but we do in Australia). I’m thinking of baking!

What do you value most in a friendship?

Oh wow! This is an interesting one for me because I really don’t trust a lot of my friends at the moment. It’s gotten to the point with me it’s becoming more of a regular thing to be let down and realise how little some of my closest friends even know me. How disappointing it is that they can just leave me behind. It’s become such a “norm” for me that it doesn’t even bother me anymore.

So I guess what I value is just someone who wants to even get to know me. You don’t have to agree on everything, but just someone who actually wants to even know me? Does that make any sense at all?

Do you prefer eating the frosting of the cake or the cupcake first?  Do you prefer a specific flavor?

My mum is well known for her cups and cupcakes and I love to try and eat both at the same time, but if it’s not possible, I tend to eat the icing first. You have to try Bubblegum flavour, it is amazing!

Have you ever been in a submarine?  If you haven’t, would you want to?

No and No…I tend to get claustrophobic and even the thought of being on one freaks me a lot. One of the scariest episodes for me on Doctor Who are all the episodes that are underwater. There was one were they were stuck in a submarine and I can’t watch it.

If 100 people your age were chosen at random, how many do you think you’d find leading a more satisfying life than yours?

I think maybe about 25%. People my age have a tendency to want everything now and yet a lot tend to not want to really work for it. I mean this in different aspects of life, not just employment. The problem with them wanting it all, but not really willingly to look at what may be causing the problems tends to cause a lot of unsatisfied people.  Take one of my best friends for example, she is pretty much, well, desperate to get married (not have kids) but just get married. She is so smart and successful in every other part of her life, but it’s not enough for her. She has dated some seriously terrible people. The last guy she date was an abusive ego-centric ass and the ONLY reason she left him for good, was he didn’t want to get married. He wanted to live with her, he was making plans for them to move in together for the rest of their lives, but didn’t want the piece of paper.

  1. Do you believe in love at first sight?
I do, but I also don’t believe that we’ve realised that it’s happened, if that makes any sense. I think about my current partner and my previous partners and those first time I met them. I believe there is some kind of of connection when you “a one” and also “the one”. Something happens, whether it’s hormones, destiny, something happens in those first moment, that we are not even aware of.
  2. Your first car?
I haven’t actually even learned to drive yet, one day though. My dream car would be a Mini though!
  3. Who taught you to ride a bike? How did it go?
My Dad really was the one who taught us, he bought us bikes and he kind of “made us” do it. Which sounds tough, but we would have never have done it if he hadn’t of made us. The bike he got me though, I think was a bit too big or tall for me. I can’t remember which way it’s called, but it was hard for me to get my leg over.
  4. Ugly and rich or beautiful and poor?
I would honestly have to go with Ugly and rich. I’m not trying be all holier than though. I really believe at the end of the day your friends, family and love relationships, the ones who care about you anyways, will still be around for you. At least though if I was rich, I would be able to travel and explore new cultures, new lands.
  5. What was the first dish you could cook?
I think I baked before I started to make dishes for dinner and such. I used to love making cookies, I just loved the smell. As for dinner, I think the first dish I could cook was tuna mornay, I love that dish, one of the reasons that I made it.

Recipe Magic

Sometimes you just find a awesome bunch of recipes that just make you want to try them all in THAT moment! I came accross these amazing recipes through Buzzfeed.:

21 Technicolor Treats That Will Make Your Mouth Water (Article written by:Krista Torres). These just look amazing, I have been trying to experiment this year with more different recipes and trying new thing. My mind is over imploding with all these new recipes, I can’t wait to try them.

There’s a couple I am really looking forward to making:

Cool news is always welcomed here!

So I had two pieces of really most excellent news…Oh yeah, I went there…I said “excellent”…Well one is “news” that I received and the other is something I cannot believe that I’ve forgotten to mention!

The first piece of good news is, there is a society in Australia called “Guide Dogs Australia” which to be honest I thought they only helped raised dogs for the blind. I sponsor one of their dogs from the Guide Dogs and you get updates, quarterly during the year. I received my most recent update and my dog is going to be a Autism Assistance dog (which I am extremely proud of). I have a lot of people in my life whose children suffer from Autism, so this was something that I was excited to share with them.

The other piece of news (that I cannot believe I forgot to share) is that my cousin is on Australia’s “Great Australian Bake Off”. I am so proud of him! It’s quiet funny really, the ladies in my family we’re not huge cookers, but all the guys are so creative and good at cooking. It is really funny watching a family member on television and not being able to breathe when something goes wrong for them. They’ve only had two shows so far, but he is still on there! =D

Food…Yum Yum in the Tum Tum!

Food! Food Glorious Food! I have really enjoyed baking and cooking over the last few years (although if you asked my family they would tell you I don’t even know how to turn on the oven to begin with…I lived in America on and off for three years, what did they think I used to do? Order take out every night?) America is actually the place where I learnt to cook and I love them for that!

Apart from Pasta though I don’t really enjoy cooking dinner food persay. I LOVE to bake though! I love baking cookies and cakes and cupcakes. I love creating desserts. One thing I have never really been into “cooking” though was dips. I just never really even thought about creating my own dips before.

That is until now…

I went to a barbecue last weekend and I found the most amazing dip I have ever come across before! A corn relish dip! I spent the time eating the dip rather than the meat and the salads. So today I am attempting to make it today. Here is the recipe:

  • 250 gms corn relish
  • 220 gms cream cheese

Mix until well blended.

Simple right? The great thing about this recipe is that you can mix it up and change it around so you can add your own tastes…It is amazing!
