That heatwave!

Well, as an Australia, I think I am qualified to talk about this.

I’ve been noticing that a lot of people overseas, are talking about heat waves. Aren’t they just the WORST! I don’t mind Summer, but those heat waves are worse than cold. I can’t write about snow, my state doesn’t get it. Or at least, I’ve never seen it.

I’ve got some advice for you. Mainly, how I “cope” with out putting on an air-conditioner. My mum likes to say that we don’t work full time to not have the heating/air con on. But it’s also considering your bills and your energy use. Which, I’m sure you all know, can end up costing a lot. Then you start thinking “Well I didn’t really need it on then”.

Writing about air conditioning though, DON’T put it on to the point of freezing in your house either. Put it in on so your cool, not freezing. The amount of times my body has nearly collapsed, from going to somewhere freezing in an office building, to outside into a heat wave and my body cannot cope with that well. I don’t know why people do that either, it will make you sick. You’re putting your body into instant extremes.

Here is my list:

  • Prepare for a blackout. – Put some those ice blocks you put into picnic baskets, wrapping them up in a tea towel can help you feel cool. Make sure all torches are charged. If you prefer candles, make sure you know where the candles and matches are. Considering purchasing “light candles” the ones where you put batteries in and you can turn them of and off, different colours with a controller.
  • If you’re by yourself, close all the curtains/blinds. Anything that lets sun in, cover it up. Generally during the day you can still get enough light into a house to see, you just want to stop a lot of sun coming in.
  • Have a cool shower before bed. Again, not freezing, just enough to cool down.
  • Sometimes, I will dampen or wet a hand towel and put it on my head. I find that if I’m cool as I fall asleep, I will fall asleep well.
  • See how you can put a timer on your air con or fan. It’s the same with the damp towel, if I’m cool as I fall asleep, I will fall asleep. Sometimes I find that just having air moving helps as well.
  • If you’re in your house, go nude! If you can only do it when you’re by yourself, go nude then.
  • Buy a big dress or also known as a “moo moo” to wear around the house. If you wear it out as well, cool. Just something big and breezy around the house, can make you feel cool. But if you have to answer the door, then you’ve got something to wear.
  • Drinking is a bit harder, because people love their coffees and cups of tea. So we forget to drink water. I’ve also started to see that a lot of people don’t “like” water. But we need it. So flavour up your water. There are lot of ways to infuse your water with fruits, and all sorts of things. So no excuse to not drink water!
  • Talking about water, make sure you always have at least two bottles of water in the fridge. I don’t care if you infuse with them with something. But if you have a gathering, you will NEED water. Doesn’t matter if you don’t like water, I can guarantee a majority of your guests will drink water. Also though, when you open the fridge, that will remind you to drink water.

I don’t know what our Prime Minister is doing

I don’t even know where to begin with our Prime Minister of Australia. I think he think’s, he’s a mini Trump or something?

He put forward a Religious Discrimination Bill, which short wise means, Religions get extra protection against discrimination (mainly Christian/Catholic)? Like, I don’t even know what the problem is. He came out saying that basically the LGBTQIA community don’t have to worry, this isn’t about them. It’s just adding extra protection to Religions…

Everyone was like …

Wha …

We already have Laws and Rules in place about Discrimination. You already cannot discriminate against someone because of their Religion.

Most Religions are multi-billion industries. I will call them that, they also got extra payments from the Australian Government during COVID. Some Churches were getting hundreds, thousands when there was only one or two people there. Since, just like other first world Countries, Religions don’t get taxed. The public were miffed.

Now this…I’m not exactly sure what the problem is?

In fact…

I never expected to lose,’ Catholic Cardinal Pell, who was jailed on sex abuse and then freed, tells Tribune

It makes me feel ill.

But our PM is talking about Australia, like we’re America. It’s just really odd. I know that Morrison clearly admired Trump, but we’re not America. It’s been really odd here in Australia lately, we have literally had anti-vaxxers hold up signs that talk about the 14th Amendments. We don’t have a Bill of Rights, or Amendments or a Constitution … You know something, I’m really glad about that.

Also like Trump, Morrison wants to hold social media companies liable for basically the gaslighting, that they, are in fact, doing themselves.

Ruby Princess coronavirus inquiry slams ‘inexcusable’ mistakes made by NSW Health

Failings that led to one of Australia’s largest coronavirus outbreaks have been laid bare, with the release of the final report from an inquiry into the ill-fated voyages of the cruise ship.

“It is inappropriate and unhelpful to make recommendations to experts that in truth amount to no more than ‘do your job’,” Commissioner Bret Walker SC said in his report.

At least 28 deaths and 662 coronavirus cases were linked to the Ruby Princess

Guess who allowed this Cruise Ship into Australia?

Nasty Australia!

I had to write this…Damn it! I am very ashamed to be an Australian right now…It’s EMBARRASSING and SO Trump-like…It’s horrible!

You know what the situation on Studio 10, Joe Hildebrands comments, did do? It showed how white people are so nasty they can’t even change the date, KNOWING what the 26th represents to it’s Indigenous people, for a public holiday that’s only been national since 1994. That they think people talking about something that has NOTHING to do with #changethedate somehow proves why they date shouldn’t be moved? I have never seen so much white privilege in my damn life before! The thing that is really bad, every single person whose doing the whataboutism…Are all white people…Like SHUT UP! You are embarrassing the rest of us!

I have never ever been more ashamed to be an Australian right now.

What is SO irritating is that the same people saying they didn’t like being group together with the Gillette Ad, are the EXACT same people saying NOW it’s okay to make general sweeping statements.

Nurt Thursday – Think/Australian Reading Hour

Nurture Thursday

positive thought

I unfortunately nearly had a panic attack a couple of nights ago. I was able to calm my thoughts and I fell asleep without any problems. When I woke up in the morning, although I was so upset that it had happened. I was proud of myself that I was able to calm my mind., without needing any drugs. That, I held onto all day.

Practice Mindfulness.

Now, the reason I have put this together with the Australian Reading Hour is because I think that reading (especially our favourite novels) can help us to think and imagine. Imagine and think what we would like ourselves to be. It almost “perfect” that these two go together SO well on the same day.

For the last time…

I feel really lucky and yet feel horrible for saying that I am so happy to be an Australian and not an American today…I have forbidden the topic of the whole political situation right now. I can’t vote, so I feel completely hopeless and helpless, that I can ‘t vote. However, I saw this very beautifully written speech by Dan Rather (Wikipedia) and I had to share it. I am going to say though I don’t think it’s something I want to deal with anymore, it’s so toxic for me. It doesnt help that I can’t even vote!

RIP Phil Walsh

Today I was woken up in shock as I learnt the sad news that AFL Crows coach Phil Walsh had died and had been stabbed to death. The most shocking part of it all was that the perpetrator was his own son.

Well…maybe it’s not that shocking, after all around about 90% of violence and murders are by people that the person knows and these people are usually family members.

I am a big footy fan and the Crows are my team and although there are numerous statistics proving that this happens all the time, I think this is honestly the first time that I have ever heard of such a well known Coach or sports-person (in Australia) being stabbed or killed.

I am so happy that this Fridays edition lands on one of my favourite holidays! =D I’m not an American or Mexican, I am Australian so it’s not a “traditional” holiday here, but it grows every single year and I have never been happier about it. Baby Animals <3

BearHug

These last two weeks I have been surrounded with baby animals…The baby Ostriches are now just a little over two weeks and are doing amazingly well! There were a few days there were we all thought that they may have “Fainting Ostrich” syndrome…Which is basically where the new hatchings will not eat or drink and eventually starve to death…THIS DID NOT HAPPEN! =D

For some reason ever since these two lovely little lights of life have come into the world all I have been seeing recently are baby animals everywhere!

With this edition of “Fact Friday” I have decided to add a few pictures and links were you can say all the “Awws” you want to the sweet little baby animals and some interesting sites as well as sites where you can donate and are helpful sites dedicated to saving our wildlife and pets (please click these pictures to get to websites).
