Dear Men

If you ever try to come for me, a cis woman with the utter bullshit that is, biological sex is “essential” to being a woman. I will kick your ass every single time. I know women who can’t give birth, I know women who don’t want to give birth, I know women who had part of their sex removed, because the women in their families, have a family history of certain cancers. Shock and horror, there are even women who don’t menstruate, hence why we need sex ed in classes. … THESE WOMEN, ARE STILL WOMEN …

Also, don’t make me defend my ex-friends choices of not having children, and then talking about how all children should die. I don’t wanna do that. Don’t make me do that.

Lady Jane Grey Removed From The Throne Of England

468 years ago today, the Lady Jane Grey (and technically England’s first Queen) was removed from the Throne. Lady Jane Grey was appointed the ruler of England but her accession to the throne lasted only a mere nine days.

The execution of the sentence was suspended, but the participation of her father, in early February 1554, in Sir Thomas Wyatt’s rebellion sealed her fate. She and her husband were beheaded on February 12, 1554; her father was executed 11 days later.

If it hadn’t been for her father, the Lady Jane would have more than likely been released, or at the very least kept in “jail” or would have been transferred to a smaller castle or home to be watched. Either way, she more than likely would have lived. #DeadbeatDads.

Out of all the Royals in History, personally, I feel sorry for Lady Jane the most. A lot, if not all, happened to her, because of OTHER people. She was executed because of her father and brother, not because she actually did anything wrong. Let’s be honest, I don’t think she was ever brought up to be Queen. And it’s not like she would have had a choice to say “No”. I mean, some men today still think “No” means “Yes, please”. At the same time we know so little about her, even though she was technically she was the first Queen of England (and the others, haha). If Mary hadn’t of won (which the Lady Jane was again, not aware of anything. She was trusting her advisers) Lady Jane Grey would have been the first Queen of England (and the others, haha) for a long time.

She was only 16 when she was executed.

Christmas in July

So many people are starting to celebrate this in Australia now. It is kind of nice, but at the same time. I have no idea where it came from! I’m hoping it started in Australia though.

You see, Christmas in Australia is pretty much, smack bang, in the middle of Summer. January is the middle of Summer, so it’s pretty close. Also though our “Christmas” in July, is in the middle of Winter (hence why I’m writing about it on the 14th). Close to the middle of the year, in the middle of Winter.

No one could really do it last year though. Though I suspect some did.

I really do love the idea though, what normally entails with a Christmas in July Party:

“Ugly” Christmas Jumpers

Traditional Christmas meals, but with a twist. As an example, we have a family friend who wraps up the brussels sprouts in bacon! She also makes the best truffles.

People tend to make more Winter/Christmas drinks, like your mulled wines and eggnog. As these Christmas drinks actually become more drinkable, because the weather is cooler, the eggnog doesn’t go off as quickly and make you sick -.-

People do buy each other presents too! However, they are normally silly (sometimes rude) little things. From a pound or 99c type shop.

What have you learnt?

So, it’s about half way through the year and a little later in the day I write about what I have learnt during this month of Pride. What I would like to hear about though, we are pretty much through at least half way through the year (can you believe it!) Have you learnt anything during this year, so far? And if you have, would you like to share what that is?

It can be about yourself, it can be about the world. It can be something that you think is teachable. For myself, I’ve learnt to actually read someone’s profile before I respond to them on social media. I have learnt, you kind of get a idea of where that person is coming from.

A lot of the times, they are just a idiot, repeating the same bigotry mantras’. But at least I learnt that before getting into a endless “debate” of them being in bad faith. It has actually saved me a lot of time, and I’ve saved a lot of words, time and mental health.

The weirdness

My mum and I were just talking about how we hosted a Halloween Party two years ago. We definitely didn’t last year (haha) so it was the year before.

We were making fun of ourselves, because we had a wall of pictures of people who were real scary people and not as scary, so like Casper the Friendly. We run a test to see if they knew who was who. We thought that they were really easy to get. Everyone got the cartoon/animated type characters. But apart from Ted Bundy, they didn’t get the rest.

My mum and I had a “serious” talk with ourselves. Are we too addicted to crime, serial killers?

… Nah, it’s everyone else.

Do you have any weird interests or hobbies?

What can you do during Pride Month?

So, like a lot of others in the world. Some places are starting to loosen up restrictions. Which means YAY and also NAY for some.

Now, if you’re like me. When my state first had it’s restrictions loosened, I really struggled to head out. When I did, I couldn’t be quiet, but my energy was depleted really quickly.

So, Lolsys Library, what can we do if we want to celebrate Pride, but don’t really want to go out? Or you’re not ready to head yet and PAR-TAY! What can you do?

There are plenty of options!

  • Tune into any virtual Pride events and stream!
  • While you’re streaming, why not make some rainbow treats! – Delish cooking
  • Why not listen to some LGBT friendly podcasts?!
  • Borrow, or even better, buy books. That are about the LGBTQIA life, written by LGBTQIA authors.
  • Support LGBT Pride Businesses.
  • Some suggestions have been to find a LGBTQIA colouring book. I think it’s fine though with any colouring in book. Especially if you have colouring in books, that are just patterns. I have a few that are “dream animals” type patterns. However, clearly during this month, specific LGBT colouring in books would be preferable. – Coloring Book Addict (Pride LGBTQ+ Coloring Books)
  • Writing about colouring in…Why not do some LGBT friendly art!
  • When you go to shops, wear those rainbows and rainbows colours!

Huzzah to the Grand Duchess Anastasia

Well, if she had lived…She would have been 120 today…Sooooooooo…The chances of her still being alive, are pretty nil.

However, the Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov was burn 120 years ago today.

A lot of us today are completely fascinated by this family. The Myths, the reality, the stories … They have to be one of the most fascinating Royal Families in History. They were around for such a long time and then it fell so quickly. With that the stories and Myths came and have never really been out of our collective conscious.

Did Anastasia escape? (They’re pretty sure she didn’t’)

Would the Heir apparent, Alexei Nikolaevich, Tsarevich, even have survived to Rule?

Did you know? In actual fact, Russians have never ever said ‘Huzzah!

Thursday Theories – Ares

I just watched the most interesting documentary on the “evolution” of Ares/Mars.

Here I was thinking (and maybe some of you), that Ares was beloved and highly revered in Ancient Greece Times.

I was wrong!

According to the Documentary I watched, Ares was actually not that revered and was quiet loathed.

In the Iliad, his father Zeus tells him that he is the god most hateful to him.

This is why I love learning, I just assumed, due mainly to the Hollywood versions, I guess. That Ares was a beloved and revered God. In reality, he was not.

In reality, and not the Hollywood films. Ares was the most despised God and Goddesses. As I watched the Documentary, I could understand why though.

Even in Modern times, most people don’t like War and try to avoid it. Unfortunately, for the Ancient Greeks, War was a every day part of life. However, like all Wars. Wars only bring death (generally of young life), famine, plagues. War generally doesn’t bring anything good.

Unlike modern times, ancient times, War, would have seemed like a necessity. A necessity, but never wanted.

Which then makes sense of why the ancient Greeks wouldn’t have liked Ares himself either. Anytime Ares was around, would have meant death of family and friends, more than likely famine or a plague.

In mythology, the Amazons were daughters of Ares. Which is why the Amazons, had such a vile reputation. Not anything like the DC representation we see now. They were thought to dwell at the edge of what the Greeks considered their ‘civilized’ world and were most often associated with the area around the southern coast of the Black Sea, the city-state, Themiskyra.  Men were only welcomed for breeding purposes, and they killed male infants.

Of course though, the Amazons are only a Myth. There’s no real proof that they actually existed.
