World Rat Day

If you don’t like Rats, stop…

stop reading….

I’m serious…

Anyone who keeps rats as pets or companions is already in on the secret: these animals are friendly, loyal, intelligent, and very endearing. Unfortunately they’ve had a bit of bad press over the years, what with the Black Death, Bubonic Plague and a thousand Pacific islands which have had their native wildlife chewed down to ground level and beyond. What’s a few environmental and social catastrophes between friends?

Pet Rats though are the cutest little things and make for some great first time pets! I have had 3 pet rats over my life time. My mum used to breed them!

  1. Growing up my younger daughter, loved all animals. And insects (yuck). I can’t remember where she got it, probably from her dad, but she had a plastic, large, life size rat that was like her teddy bear. She took it everywhere. I forget what his name was..I’m going to have to ask her lol. When people asked she explained about rats or gave a few facts. Oh boy the faces on people were great. She got a smaller on eventually, too, but man did she love that big black rat! She had that thing till she moved to Utah at 19. I wonder if she still has it.

    Loved the post.

      1. Hi Lolsy! I have lots of rat-patterned fabrics in my online fabric store. Here is the Paisley Rats collection: https://www.spoonflower.com/collections/162641-rat-paisley-prints-by-paisleypower and here is the Paisley Rats Mosaic collection (which is a smaller simpler rat pattern): https://www.spoonflower.com/collections/326497-paisley-rats-mosaic-by-paisleypower
I also have some pillow covers (cushion covers) made with the rat fabrics.
