Have you all seen this amazing new show…Well, I say “new” it’s actually just about to end it’s second series, but it’s only come out this year. It’s freaking sadly amazing.
I don’t normally write a review, I don’t honestly think that I am any good at it. But I really wanted to write something for this one. I think it’s honestly one of the best new shows out there. Everything about, even the concept is something I don’t think I’ve ever heard about before. I definitely did not know about ballrooms and “posing” until the series. I thought I knew a lot about when A.I.Ds and HIV when I first heard about and started to look into it. I was still quiet young when the epidemic hit peak, being only born in 1984. I’m not even really sure that I knew what those words even meant until I got to high school, late 90’s.
I possibly have written about this show before.
It’s a television series about New York City’s African-American and Latino LGBT. The characters compete for trophies and recognition in this underground culture, and who support one another in a network of chosen families known as Houses. It also takes place around the time where AIDS and H.I.V are starting to become an epidemic. It confronts the real life issues of the bigotry around this time. By the second season most of the main characters in the show are either HIV-positive or living with AIDS.
What I love is that although being sad and being some reality of the situation to life. Its mostly about the family you choose.
